Does galactorrhea in a female cause an increase in breast size?

When a girl/woman produces milk despite the fact that she is not pregnant or breastfeeding, would it cause a significant increase in breast size or bra cup size?
----------

No it will not. It's just a simple discharge.  (+ info)

what is the relationship between hypothyroidy and galactorrhea?

galactorrhea is caused by increased prolactin.
----------

Galactorrhea develops in primary hypothyroidism secondary to TRH secretion from the hypothalamus. TRH stimulates the anterior pituitary to release TSH and prolactin. Galactorrhea resolves as prolactin concentrations fall with thyroid replacement.  (+ info)

Is it ok to have galactorrhea?

I just want to know

Have you had a child before? If not, I would say no. Galactorrhea can be a sign of a pituatary tumor. You should probably get checked just to make sure.  (+ info)

does any1 kno what Galactorrhea Syndrome is ?

i went to the doctor explainig that i havent been able to concieve and that i dont ever recall getting pregnant and that i was producing breast milk not alot just like a drop and its mostly from only 1 of my breast and he explaind to me that i have something called Galactorrhea.

he told me that was preventing me from getting pregnant and that i was going to take a medication called BROMOCRIPTINE a substitue for PARLODEL that it was going to stop me from producing the breastmilk and then id be able to get pregnant even while taking the pill.
any one kno of this being true

the problem now is that i went to another doctor to get a second opinion and he told me to get on birthcontrol so i still havent takin todays dose should i stop birth control and take the pill or how long should i wait for this.
----------

Galactorrhea or galactorrhoea is the spontaneous flow of milk from the breast, unassociated with childbirth or nursing. It can be due to local causes or dysregulation of certain hormones.

Lactation requires the presence of estrogen, progesterone and prolactin, and the evaluation of galactorrhea includes eliciting a history for various medications (methyldopa, opiates, some typical antipsychotics) and for behavioral causes (including licorice, stress, and breast and chest wall stimulation), as well as evaluation for pregnancy, pituitary adenomas (with overproduction of prolactin or compression of the pituitary stalk), and hypothyroidism. Overproduction of prolactin leads to cessation of menstrual periods and infertility, which may be a diagnostic clue.  (+ info)

Galactorrhea & Amenorrhea/Is pregnancy likely?

How hard is it to get pregnant if I have galactorrhea and amenorrhea? Does it mean that I could be infertile?
----------

I think the galactorrhea is the cause of the amenorrhea. Have you had your prolactin levels checked? You should see an Endocrinologist if you haven't already. I would think Clomid would be the first treatment whick is simply a medication but I not a doctor. Good Luck!  (+ info)

Is galactorrhea related to infertility?

im 23 and just got told my the doc i have galactorrhea (milking nipples wen not pregnant) ive searched a few sites and its come up on some infertility websites....are they related?im too freaked out to read the sites.

the doc took blood to test for pituitary tumor (but said id have other symptoms) or a thyroid problem, but said the answer is more than likely just a reaction to my oral contraceptive, and to wait a week for results to come back if we cant find anything well change my contraception.

Help, freaking out!
----------

Hi sweetheart - don't freak out, your doctor has done the right thing in ordering those tests.
Certain contraceptive pills can cause galactorrhea, over stimulation of the pituitary gland, even some other medications and even too much licorice.

Just relax as stress can make things worse. Pop a couple of folded tissues in your bra. Wash your nipples frequently and moisturize them.
Wear dark shirts and try to relax, I know that all sounds easy, and it is NOT, but we all hope your results come back AOK. That it will be just over production of a hormaone triggered by your 'pill', then you doctor will know, change the type of pill and change the dosage.

Best og luck  (+ info)
