What is more effective for encouraging muscle hypertrophy?

Drop sets (for example, 80 lbs 1 rep, 70 lbs 2 reps, 60 lbs 3 reps, etc.)

or

Sets where you add weight and reduce reps (135 lb 10 reps, 155 lbs 6 reps, 175 lbs 3 reps, etc.)
----------

Both. One of the most important factors in achieving size gains is keeping your muscles from adapting to your workout. Always change it up. I work out to failure every time I'm in the gym. What routine I use, I change very frequently.

Also, drop sets are VERY effective. I usually pick a couple main muscle groups to do drop sets on for my final set of that muscle group. Don't do them EVERY time, and definitely not EVERY set. Hinders results.

I strongly suggest you read the following, and if you're serious, the sources the info comes from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_hypertrophy

If you don't want to read all of it, the most relevant part is this:

The chart has a section showing the range where hypertrophy is most significant.  (+ info)

Chronic aortic stenosis can sometimes lead to left ventricular hypertrophy. Why?

Chronic aortic stenosis can sometimes lead to left ventricular hypertrophy. Why?
----------

Due to chronic aortic stenosis,i.e.narrowing of the aortic valve, the oxygen-rich blood from the lungs which has finally reached left ventricle, the last chamber of the heart before getting distributed to various body parts through aorta, gets accumulated here since the outlet has narrowed down, thereby giving rise to ballooning and a thicker muscle mass in left ventricle which is the largest pumping chamber of the heart.Hence the left ventricular hypertrophy.  (+ info)

What excercises can I do to cause hypertrophy in my forearms?

Besides hammer curls.
----------

its kinda hard to explain in words... so i'll just give you a link with good moves that work the best.

owe, and the stupid girl above me is wrong, you were correct when you addressed them as forearms.  (+ info)

how long does it take for a child with edenoid hypertrophy to recover after surgery in his social development?

the child (4.5 yrs) suffered from sleep apnea as a result of the enlarged adenoid and his social development (esp. peer relationships) seemed to be delayed. his adenoid and tonsils were removed in a surgery so the sleep apnea seems to have been corrected. when can we expect that he catch up in his social development?

Children develop at different rates. We do know that children can be stimulated and learning can progress.

If you knew what to do whould you do it? There is a better way!  (+ info)

Are their any porn stars or celebrities with Virginal breast hypertrophy?

WHAT IS THAT?  (+ info)

10 points to who answers this easy question. wouldn't hypertrophy increase strength as it increase size?

if hypertrophy increases muscle cell size, wouldn't larger size increase their strength also?
and would this plan work: first do hypertrophy exercise to increase cell size, then hyperplasia to increase their amount?

What is gross concentric left ventricualr hypertrophy?

Left ventricular hypertrophy is an enlargement of the hearts' muscular wall of the left ventricle (heart's main pumping chamber). Now sometimes this is normal and physiological. This commonly happens in pregnancy due to the increased demand on the heart and athletes have this too. I run long distances and I sometimes have LVH which has occurred in a normal physiological response to cardiovascular conditioning, it basically enables the heart to pump more effectively. This type of hypertrophy is reversible and is not usually of any consequence.

Some people have hypertrophy as a result of preload (increased volume load) on the heart, if this is prolonged, this can result in ventricular failure. Certain heart conditions such as cardiomyopathies, high BP, valve problems and CAD can cause this.

Now, with prolonged enlargement, such as with hypertension etc, the diameter of the actual ventricular chamber itself does not change but the muscle wall thickness increases, this is called concentric hypertrophy. The problem with this is the compliance is reduced which eventually causes impaired filling and ultimately diastolic dysfunction.  (+ info)

Cardiologist around here in yahoo please? How bad are my left ventrical hypertrophy results, see below?

I don't want to freak out but my cardiologist apointment is still almost two weeks away for an echo. Here are my ECG results:

Vent Rate 69bpm
PR interval: 182 ms
QRS Duration : 96 ms
QT/QTc 410/439 ms
P-R-T axes 42 63 26
----------

I don't know exactly what it means, but I do work for 9 cardiologist. When a patient has a test done...even if it's only a week after the test...and something is extremely abnormal we will call before the appointment date. I actually couldn't get in touch with a patient who had an extremely abnormal heart monitor...her phone was disconnected...and so was her emergency contacts number....I had to call the city's police department and send emergency vehicles to her home. You should be fine if you haven't heard from them yet. If you can't wait, you can always call their nursing department and ask them what it means.  (+ info)

What does "mild concentric left ventricular hypertrophy" mean?

Your left ventricle is straining for whatever reason and the muscle mass increases. No that's not good because it diminishes the size of the ventricle and therefore how much blood can be pumped out of it So your cardiac output drops. The doctors will let you know your options. And why didn't you ask your doctor? He should have fully explained it to you. And by the way it does say "mild" so it's probably nothing to worry about right now.
God bless.  (+ info)
