Does the following test indicate an overgrowth of candida?

I have heard that if you spit into a glass of water first thing in the morning and the saliva forms white threads or flakes that sink to the bottom this is the candida fungus and shows you have an overgrowth. Is the white stuff really candida?
----------

Unfortunately, that test won't work. There are too many variables in a test like that which may result in assuming you have candida.

Mucus alone in your saliva would give that appearance.

Unfortunately, other than vaginal or penile or thrush yeast infections, Candida can be very hard to diagnose people everyone has some level of candida fungus in their body. I'm assuming you're referring to systemic candida in your question.

The best initial steps to take are natural ones...

1. avoid sugars and complex carbohydrates.
2. avoid antibacterial soaps
3. shower frequently
4. add grapefruit seed extract to your water for a week (will kill the candida)
5. There is a complete candida diet listed on the link below:

When should I start taking probiotic when treating bacterial overgrowth with antibiotic?

suffering from bacterial overgrowth. prescribed Xifaxan (rifaximin) for 10 days. presumably I should not start a probiotic until I stop taking Xifaxan -- is that right? The drug kills all intestinal flora, so seems I shouldn't start too soon. Also unclear to restock flora whether Align or Flora Q is best. Will taking in addition active yoghurt cultures like Dannon Danactive or Activa help or hurt? Does taking beano or V-gest enzymes prevent bacterial overgrowth or just prevent gas?
----------

I recommend you start taking the probiotic right away and the best I've found is all natural Optiflora. It not only contains the probiotic but also a prebiotic (food for the good bacteria). It's all natural and guarantees the delivery of 500 million live "good" bacteria to the intestines.

The yogurt certainly doesn't hurt but it only guarantees that there were live cultures at the time of manufacture, as does most other products, but not that they will reach your intestines live.

Hope this is useful and feel free to contact me with questions.  (+ info)

How do I get rid off the overgrowth skin situed under my tongue around the piercing?

Hy.I got my tongue pierced a month ago and since then a white bubble appeared under my tongue around the pierce. How do I get rid of it?Please help me
----------

Is it a bubble or just a bump? If it's really painful, leaking pus, etc. then it might be infected. But if it doesn't really hurt & is just a bump, that could be a keloid. Crush some aspirin and put the powder on the bump for a minute or so each day (worked for me). If you're not sure, it's always okay to ask your piercer.  (+ info)

Can I assume the Candida overgrowth has been cured after the die-off symptoms come and go?

It's been one week on anti-fungals and a strict diet and today I'm experiencing die-off symptoms and terrible cravings. Once these symptoms go away, will I be cured?
Wow, how do I known if it's all gone? How do I know how long to keep going? The diet is pretty darn miserable to keep up.
----------

Not necessarily. Just because you don't feel sick doesn't mean that everything's all cleared up. If there's some Candida left that's a bit more resistant to the drug but you stop taking the drug, those cells will multiply, leaving you with an infection that's pretty much resistant to what you're taking now... which means another full course of anti-fungals that have to be stronger than what you're on now... just stick with the medication to make sure you kill off all the Candida.  (+ info)

How do you naturally get rid of an overgrowth of yeast in your digestive tract?

Like from drinking too much wine, etc., ?
----------

Very good question. I have Thrush all the time and I scrape the crap out of my tounge. I have had it all my life. My doctor gave me some rinse and it went away for a while but came back...I will check back on this question. ;)  (+ info)

Why do I keep on getting yeast infection and overgrowth of batieria?

This is just my second time but I just got done with it a couple weeks ago. I'm five months pregnant. I only sleep with my husband, and the last time was when I got pregnant. Whats the batieria thing? How do you get that and would it do anything to the baby?
How do you get yeast infection by wearing tigth clothes?
----------

Probably, the first time you didn't completely eradicate the bacteria and finish your therapy to remove the bacteria. They say that once you get it, they will reoccur due to past infection. Best thing is go to your GYN and get some antibiotics or treatment. Always good to be safe and get it checked out.

How does someone get a yeast infection?

Yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of yeast that are often present in low numbers in the vagina. Pregnancy, antibiotics, and frequent exposure to semen over a short period of time can all lead to an overgrowth of these organisms.

What is the impact of yeast infection on pregnancy?

Although vaginitis caused by bacterial vaginosis (BV) has been linked to early labor and delivery, the role of yeast infection seems to be less clear.  (+ info)

I need help finding some info on Candida overgrowth?

I am looking for a good site that outlines good and bad foods for yeast overgrowth- not for a certain part of the body but for the whole system. If someone could find a site that has recipes as well I would be so thankful. I think my whole family needs to go on this diet, we all have a majority of these symptoms. I am having a hard time finding a decent site- most of them are trying to sell a book .
----------

Probably because the symptoms are pretty common. I honestly looked into this years ago due to allergies. There is little to no real proof of excessive Candida overgrowth, problem one. Problem two the so called treatments are usually expensive and don't produce results. I say results because there are no real tests for this candida problem The patients don't feel better and are usually more frustrated having spent money on treatments (usually some herbal concoction) and the trouble of changing their diet to some weird, bland, often expressive diets. Basically turns you into a vegan. If your family is picky they won't like it a bit.
. If I remember correctly the Mayo clinic had some Information on it. They were the only how do I say it recognized medical professionals that were doing any studies on it at the time. They might have more info now.

how much acidophilus do I need to take to get rid of an intestinal yeast overgrowth?

I took antibiotics for a persistant strep infection, now I have gas, bloating, sugar cravings, thrush, atheletes foot, and other skin irritations.
----------

I don't know, but I think this is something you should be asking your doctor. Don't trust people on here to tell you anything when it concerns your health. It's fine to see what people have to say, but not expect their advice to be right. Someone might tell you they've been through it and tell you what they did, but always remember that they're not you. Only your doctor and you can decide what is best for you. Good luck.  (+ info)

In a free gingival graft, how deep do they cut into the roof of your mouth?

The thought of this is freaking me out. How big of a chunk do they take?
----------

a nearly paper thin sliver. Aside from the fact that you shouldn't ;) if you rubbed your tounge along the roof of your mouth, you'd have a hard time feeling where they did the actual graft. Relax. Ask them if you can get a valium for the night before/morning of. Most periodontists/oral surgeons can prescribe you a dose or two to calm your nerves.

Good luck with your surgery ^_^  (+ info)
