What type of disease or sickness is this called?

What are some diseases/sicknesses that requires the sick person to have to take white potassium pills and causes weight loss?
----------

Hypokalemia or low potassium would necessitate a person to take potassium supplements. This depeletion might be due to the use of diuretics. Another sickness is vomiting and diarrhea. Working out and extensive exercises that results in heavy sweating. and loss of electrolytes. This is exacerbated by inadequate oral intake. Enema abuse or use of laxatives.

Hypokalemia may be due to a total body deficit of potassium, which may result from long-term inadequate intake, long-term diuretic or laxative use, and chronic diarrhea, hypomagnesemia, or hyperhidrosis. Acute causes of potassium depletion include diabetic ketoacidosis, severe gastrointestinal losses from vomiting and diarrhea, dialysis, and diuretic therapy. Hypokalemia may also be the manifestation of large potassium shifts from the extracellular to intracellular space, as seen with alkalosis, insulin, catecholamines, sympathomimetics, and hypothermia.

Other recognizable causes include renal tubular disorders, such as distal renal tubular acidosis, Bartter and Gitelman syndromes, periodic hypokalemic paralysis, hyperthyroidism, administration of beta2-adrenergic agents, and hyperaldosteronism. Other mineralocorticoid excess states that may cause hypokalemia include cystic fibrosis (with hyperaldosteronism from severe chloride and volume depletion), Cushing syndrome, and exogenous steroid administration.  (+ info)

How could a Six Flags trip be managed with Type 1 diabetes and celiac disease?

My friend invited me to Six Flags last year. I had diabetes but not celiac, so I am more concerned about that. Usually, they have dinner inside the park, but you bring your own lunch to eat outside the park. So I'm fine for lunch, but not dinner. I don't want to be too much of a hassle during this. They do not allow food inside the park. So what should I do?

By the way, I cannot eat things on the inside in case they contain gluten. Just to be on the safe side.
----------

That stinks ... I remember a discussion about bringing food inside of parks a while ago, but I can't remember exactly what was said.

If I recall correctly, people said they kept coolers in their cars, and would get their hand stamped when they left so they could get back in.

But I don't think it's fair that you would have to do that. I wonder if you could get a note from your doctor talking about your Celiac, and then they would let you bring food in. It's not like you want to bring food in to be cheap.

Here's a link to the "contact us" page from their website:

It lists phone numbers for all the Six Flags. Maybe you could call the guest relations number for your Six Flags?  (+ info)

What type of disease / disorder causes random blackouts?

It's not actually blackouts. Sometimes, i'll be watching TV, or eating, or reading - and all of a sudden everything goes dark and i see only blackness (like a patch). It lasts for less than a second and it is random (2 -3 times a day). (It's like staring into a blank TV screen). Is this a symptom for something severe?

could be low sugar or seizure, you do need to see a doctor, you don't want to be behind the wheel when this happens  (+ info)

Is there a reproductive disease which dictates one must reproduce with someone with the same blood type?

If so what is it? I have heard of it but cannot verify it. I would like to try and get the name so I can search it. THANKS!
----------

The only thing that comes to mind that has more than a 2% chance of occurrence is hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN), which is a result of a mother carrying a fetus that contains a blood group antigen (blood type) that differs from her own. Her body may in turn form blood group antibodies against her fetus' RBCs which can cause some potential problems in regards to the transport of oxygen to developing tissues etc. This however would be totally prevented by her mating with someone with the same type blood alleles (simple genetics). Maybe this is what you were referring to? Hope I have helped.  (+ info)
