What type of disease could result from chronic tiredness?

i am always tired, I don't think it's really normal. I could sleep the whole day if you let me. I have tried things like sleeping less or sleeping more, but I am still tired and weak. is there any kind of disease that that could result from? I have already been tested negative for anemia.
----------

So many things can cause fatigue. Some have been covered here. Mono, Lyme disease, lupus, celiac disease or any malabsorption issue, thyroid issues, etc. Apnea or some other sleep disorder is an excellent suggestion, by the way!

I have celiac and I also happen to have Lyme right now. When my celiac was active I was NOT anemic, but was still very tired all the time (so do look into that and consider getting tested if any of the symptoms seem to fit or you have a family member with celiac). Lyme has not been a lot of fun either... I sleep and sleep and it is never enough, but with Doxycycline I am feeling better.
You will need more testing to help determine what is going on with you, I wish you luck, a tenacious Dr. who won't give up or tell you that you are "depressed" to make you go away so s/he doesn't have to admit that they don't know, and a speedy diagnosis.
And I am serious about not taking the "you are depressed diagnosis" seriously. If they ever say that and you know you are not depressed just say,"Oh, I understand. That means you don't know what is happening and now you want to blame it on me. Well, thank you for your time, I am getting a second opinion now." and leave.  (+ info)

When they say being an alcoholic or people being obese is a disease what type of disease is it?

Can you have the disease and it doesn't even affect you? If everyone else in my family is an alcoholic and I don't even drink is there a big chance that I still have the disease? Is the disease a psychological disease?
----------

calling alcoholism or obesity or drug taking a disease is taking away responsibility from the abuser. they can then hold up their hands and say whoops not my fault as they fall down, vomiting in the high street causing 000's of pounds / dollars to be spent in cleaning, medicare, aftercare, education etc, the serious drug taker can with full support of academics say 'not my fault guv' after he has just mugged and beaten black and blue an 80 yr old pensioner for some of the money to buy his next fix, again when caught , being the cause of the squandering of 000's of pounds/dollars to 'help' him/her on their fragile and ultimately useless road to recovery. And when i am rushed to hospital with serious health complications that have not been caused by any suspect lifestyle/ health choices and i am left for long hours waiting for a simple but probable lifesaving initial check over because the physician is busy with some fat bloke who feels a little unwell after choking on a triple Mac, then not only should we stop apologising for these people who mentally can help themselves but selfishly choose not to but we should also look at prioritising health care and all its resources in favour of those who are in no way capable of helping themselves overcome debilitating real diseases but are
shunted to the back of the queue so that the socially repulsive, greedy, needy people with problems lap up the ever dwindling pot of money that is allowed for health care.

If your family are a family of substance abusers be it food, drugs or drink then your best bet is to leave the situation and not look back. easier said than done but research over the years has shown that those members of society that carry on the 'traditions' of the family or social clique to which they are exposed will then pass on those traits to other generations, one reason being that very few people like or actively seek out change. we are creatures of habit, good or bad. but change is what we need and change is what society needs.

this is spoken from experience as i came from a very physically and mentally abusive religious foster home. i had real mental, physical and social problems as a child, Left the situation aged 16 and have seen none of my relatives or friends from that period since. that is 34 yrs ago. i even live in a different country. i have a loving, caring new family, there are no rows , no physical threats and more important little in the way of problems. no has health issues, none of us smoke, none of us take illegal drugs and more importantly we each take the view that our actions dictate the consequences. we do not expect others to clean up our detritus. we are our own saviours. that message should be the mantra of all society. No excuses. our mess is our mess.

calling problems diseases clouds the issues and makes victims out of oppressors and slowly kills society.  (+ info)

What type of disease is polymyositis?

I have looked at a bunch of different websites- some say muscular, some say skeletal, and some say nervous. I am doing a report for biology, and I need to know what type it is.
----------

It's a connective tissue illness which is uncommon & causes inflammation of the MUSCLES. There's progressive muscle weakness in muscles closest to the trunk like the shoulders; upper arms; hips; thighs; neck. It occurs on both sides of body.
There is also mild joint or muscle tenderness. Possible difficulty swallowing.

It belongs to a group of conditions called inflammatory myopathies which are diseases or abnormal conditions of the muscles.
It is suspected they are autoimmune diseases

Will someone with Type 1 diabetes have a higher chance of having a child with the disease?

Im just wondering - my boyfriend has type 1. if we had a child, would it be likely the child would have it too?
----------

There is an increased risk, but it's not great.

Your first two responders are incorrect. The genetic link to type 1 diabetes is not that clear. There is more than one set of genes that can cause type 1. And your chances of developing it differ depending on which set you have. Not only that, but you can get different parts of the gene set from different parents ... so your parents may have no chance of getting it, but you will.

It's really interesting stuff. I have a website that describes the genetic part of type 1, but I can't find it at the moment. And, I have to run ... if I find it later I'll come back and include the link for you.

EDIT:

I found you a link, though it wasn't the one I was looking for:

http://www.uchsc.edu/misc/diabetes/books/ud11/ud03.pdf

This is a chapter from the book that I was given at the hospital when my daughter was first diagnosed.

EDIT:

Here's the link I wanted you to see! Interesting stuff:

Can you get a tummy tuck when you have type 1 Von Willebrand disease?

I am really interested in getting a tummy tuck procedure done, but in 2003 I was diagnosed with Von Willebrand disease the least severe kind type 1, so I have tried to research and see if it is possible, but haven't been able to find much, and I contacted a doctor that turned me down because of this so I just wanted to know if anyone had any info for me? Please give me some feed back!
----------

I *just* did a paper on vWD! It is not hemophilia, you cant bleed to death, especially w/ Type 1, so I don't know why you were turned down. As long as you take your DDAVP when they tell you to for the surgery(its different for type of Sx and doc) ie taken before, they give during, or you take after. Umm let me pull out my sources list here.....its just vWD info, but it may help you state your case. I'll put some down in 'Sources'.

Hope it helps!

**edit**PS it looks like it is not making them links, if you want the whole address just email me. The link is in my profile!  (+ info)

What type of disease causes an arm to have itchy bumps?

My little brother started to have bumps on both of his arms. He said that they are itchy and appeared out of nowhere. The bumps are pretty big. I'm not sure if he's allergic to anything. Does anybody out there have any idea what this could be? Please help! Thanks!
----------

It could possibly be eczema. I have a history of getting eczema all over my arms, especially in the folds of my arms. I hope this helps. If it is infact eczema, get some hydrocortizone from a local Walgreens, Walmart, Target, ect...  (+ info)
