How do you serve goat sausage in a complete menu?


my husband came home from the Berkeley farmers market with goat sausage! I want to grill them, but what else would be appropriate to serve with them?

How long should you cook goat in a crockpot?


I want to make a goat curry in a crockpot. I've only ever used pressure cookers. I'm not sure how long I'm suppose to keep it in a crockpot for and at what setting. Thanks.

Well a crock pot is no different than a slow cooker, so I'd suggest at least 8 hours, that way the meat will be nice and tender.  (+ info)

Is it safe to drink Goat's Milk which contains a stabilizer?


I have IBD and my body cannot tolerate cow's milk. I just bought a popular brand of goat's milk and found out it contains a stabilizer...I don't know about the effects of stabilizer or how it might damage my sensitive intestines. Should I be worried about ingesting stabilizer?

It would be really helpful if you would have given the name of the stabilizer. It could be just something to keep the fat in suspension. If the goats milk is from a reputable dairy then the stabilizer is food grade and is safe. I don't know what IBD is but if you are allergic to milk protein then goats milk is a good solution to your problem. The previous answer is wrong. Hopefully you Dr. suggested goats milk. Because if you are intolerant to lactose I don't think goats milk is going to help.

What are some great chicken and goat cheese recipes?


I love love love goat cheese and wanted to find some recipes using Chicken and Goat Cheese. I made one the other night:

Chicken breasts topped with sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese in a lemon butter sauce.

Any other variations?

Chicken breasts stuffed w/goat cheese and spinach.

Just slice the chicken breasts lengthwise but not all the way through and stuff them with goat cheese and spinach.

Another Idea is making a pasta with the two of those. Cut the chicken in chunks and saute w/garlic and olive oil. Add pasta and goat cheese and sun dried tom's on top. Yum!  (+ info)

We have several goats on the property and I catch Mags outside chewing on a piece of tin... How can we convince her her that she is not a goat?

What is the best organic powdered goat's milk out there for making soaps?


Wanting to making organic soaps for myself and to sell at craft fair. Is powdered goat's milk just as good as using goat's milk.

I use Meyenberg (both powder and liquid form). I have been able to find it in most grocery stores in the canned milk aisle (baking area). I prefer the liquid form and for added benefit I also add ground oatmeal to the soap.  (+ info)

Whats a good, cheaper, substitute for Goat Cheese in a recipe?


I am making this recipe in bulk. It's stuffed pork tenderloin. The stuffing calls for fruit, prosciuitto and goat cheese. Since I am making so much of it, the goat cheese will get expensive. Any cheaper suggestions that will go well? Thanks!

For the recipe you're using, you could go with ricotta cheese. It's cheap and can be purchased by the tub. It mixes well and can be stuffed into your loin without causing too much headache.

If you want to reduce your costs even further, try cooked bacon or ham pieces instead of prosciutto as prosciutto can get become expensive.

This is a silly question, but you thought about purchasing the original ingredients in bulk at a store like Costco? You can usually purchase twice as much for the same price or even less and freeze any unused portions.  (+ info)

What diseases would have the symptom of coughing up blood or blood in the phlegm?


This is not a symptom of my own so please don't tell me to go to the doctor, it is for a piece of work I have to do for College.

If you could tell me the name of a disease/ diseases that cause this, preferably not consumption or TB, a little about it and other symptoms it would be a massive help!
If you could also include treatment options and how serious a disease it is that would also be fantastic!

First: spitting up blood is clinically known as: HEMOPTYSIS (bloody sputum, spit)
Yes, pneumonia is the most likely, but......
The following is from my medical e-book (I'm a nursing student)

"Blood in the sputum (hemoptysis) is most often seen in clients with chronic bronchitis or lung cancer. Clients with tuberculosis, pulmonary infarction, bronchial adenoma, or lung abscess may have grossly bloody sputum."
Also the end stage of cycstic fibrosis will present with hemoptysis.

A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a collection of particulate matter (solids, liquids, or gaseous substances) that enters venous circulation and lodges in the pulmonary vessels. Large emboli obstruct pulmonary blood flow, leading to decreased systemic oxygenation, pulmonary tissue hypoxia, and potential death. Any substance can cause an embolism, but a blood clot is the most common.

Pulmonary embolism is the most common acute pulmonary disease (90%) among hospitalized clients. In most people with PE, a blood clot from a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) breaks loose from one of the veins in the legs or the pelvis. The thrombus breaks off, travels through the vena cava and right side of the heart, and then lodges in a smaller blood vessel in the lung. Platelets collect with the embolus, triggering the release of substances that cause blood vessel constriction. Widespread pulmonary vessel constriction and pulmonary hypertension impair gas exchange. Deoxygenated blood shunts into the arterial circulation, causing hypoxemia. About 12% of clients with PE do not have hypoxemia.

Pulmonary embolism affects at least 500,000 people a year in the United States, about 10% of whom die. Many die within 1 hour of the onset of symptoms or before the diagnosis has even been suspected.

For clients with a known risk for PE, small doses of prophylactic subcutaneous heparin may be prescribed every 8 to 12 hours. Heparin prevents excessive coagulation in clients immobilized for a prolonged period, after trauma or surgery, or when restricted to bedrest. Occasionally, a drug to reduce platelet aggregation, such as clopidogrel (Plavix), is used in place of heparin.

Goodpasture's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which autoantibodies are made against the glomerular basement membrane and neutrophils. The two organs with the most damage are the lungs and the kidney. Lung damage is manifested as pulmonary hemorrhage. Kidney damage manifests as glomerulonephritis that may rapidly progress to complete renal failure (see Chapters 74 and 75). Unlike other autoimmune disorders, Goodpasture's syndrome occurs most often in adolescent or young adult men. The exact cause or triggering agent is unknown.

COLLABORATIVE MANAGEMENT
Goodpasture's syndrome usually is not diagnosed until serious lung and/or kidney problems are present. Manifestations include shortness of breath, hemoptysis (bloody sputum), decreased urine output, weight gain, generalized nondependent edema, hypertension, and tachycardia. Chest x-rays show areas of consolidation. The most common cause of death is uremia as a result of renal failure.

Spontaneous resolution of Goodpasture's syndrome has occurred but is rare. Interventions focus on reducing the immune-mediated damage and performing some type of renal supportive therapy.

Does anyone have a recipe for a sundried tomato and goat cheese dip?


I've had this served as an appetizer, where the goat cheese is layered onto a serving dish over mixed herbs, and topped with sundried tomatoes. Any hints to the real recipe are appreciated!!

Marinated Goat Cheese Spread / Dip

A decedent spread that wins raves at potlucks and dinner parties. Rich and flavourful, it's perfect served with whole grain crackers or grilled bread.

8 ounces soft fresh goat cheese, sliced
1/2 cup kalamata olives, sliced
2 tablespoons sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil, sliced
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh coarse ground black pepper
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, more to taste

Arrange cheese in a shallow dish in a single layer. Scatter olives, sundried tomatoes and basil over and around it.
In a small bowl, combine vinegar, oil, garlic, rosemary, thyme, and pepper. Pour over cheese.
Marinate a few hours in the fridge or overnight. Serve at room temperature with grilled or fresh bread. ~*-*~  (+ info)

How to make curry Goat with rice & peas?


I would like to make curry goat with rice and peas but theres so many recipes to choose from, which is the best? I would like to add coconut to it and not use bones but would like some expert help in the matter, Thanks
Would use mutton but prefer goat meat, I love curry.
Not too hot on chicken prefer beef or lamb not mutton, or goat.

1st - soak the peas over night - drain and leave ready to add to the mix...if you dont want to use those peas, kidney beans are ok, just drain and wash and set aside.
You need to use the bones, much more flavour...I know what your saying though, I hate digging at bones, but on some dishes it just has to be done, leave cooking for a bit longer and the meat will fall off the bone.
Depends on how many you are cooking for but say its just for two use this measurements and just double up for more people.
Get your butcher to dice into about half inch square the goat, tell him to take as much fat off (thats my preference anyway)
Season with All purpose or Everyday seasoning, little salt and black pepper, two table spoons of curry powder mix with a little oil and leave if you can for a couple of hours.

Heat some oil in a pan, and quickly fry the goat meat till brown
When brown, add chopped up onion/tomato and a little mixed herbs.

Drain off most of the excess oil as the meat is quite fatty anyway, add stock...any you want, I usually use just water and let the natural juices cook in, cover with water about half an inch above the meat, cover and cook for about 90 minutes. Little longer if you want more tender meat.

Im sure you know what to do with the peas, if you are using soaked peas, retain some of the juice they are soaking in, add rice to the peas and juice and cook as normal. if you are using kidney beans wash off and add to rice about 10 minutes into the cooking, I wouldnt put coconut in the curry, but would add some creamed coconut to the rice if you like it.

Hope this is pretty easy for you, try it, and add different veg if you want, but this is the basics. Enjoy.  (+ info)
