Can the cause of a giant cell tumor be post traumatic?

I recently had surgery on my right thumb for ligament repair from a slip and fall, there after I developed what doctors call- a giant cell tumor on that same right thumb finger. Could the growth of the tumor be post-traumatic?
thanks for answering my question. Is there any way I can prove that it is post traumatic?
----------

You have to wonder. Any trauma is followed by healing, which involves rapid cell division and involves the chance of mutations arising from the cell division, which could lead to cell disregulation and a tumor. Good luck on getting through this!  (+ info)

What are the different symptoms between a non cancerous Giant cell tumor, and a Cancerous regular tumor?

Like as in pain. And Whats the difference on an x-ray and MRI do they come up different, or would you need to do a biopsy first.Or can you tell right away that one is a tumor and one is a giant tumor b.c they are two different types. Thanks to anyone who answers
----------

We may need "Denisedds" for this one.
I'm a cancer specialist doctor, and I don't know what type of malignancy you are asking about.
A "cancerous regular tumor" - of what part of the body?
A "giant cell tumor" that is not malignant.
I can't make sense out of this.
Perhaps you could be more specific ? ? ?

OK, I see from your other question that you are concerned about a bone tumor.
A giant cell tumor of bone does make good sense.

We will all have to wait for the biopsy results.  (+ info)

How rare are giant cell tumors?

I was recently diagnosed with a giant cell tumor of the tendon and I was wondering exactly how rare are these things.

Are giant cell tumors of the soft tissue (tendon) rarer than those of the bone?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated...especially if you have either had a giant cell tumor or know someone that has.

Thanks

does anyone know the recovery time for giant cell tumor surgery on the foot?

does any one know the average recovery time for a giant cell tumor surgery on the foot?
----------

I had one removed from my middle finger years ago, on a friday, I was back up to steam by that monday (with a few pain meds). It's a day surgery, and your recovery will be even quicker if you go with a local anaesthetic (general tends to keep you a little more dopey and nauseated for longer)

Good luck!  (+ info)

My sister has been told her giant cell tumor has returned after 11 yrs has anyone else had this happen?

She had a good recovery last time and no trouble since, the doctors took out a 2and a half inch piece of bone from her lower arm. The other night playing soccer she blocked the ball in goal and broke her wrist. An xray showed the tumor is back , now she faces it all again, this is 11 years later, is there any new treatment? Or advice?

Can anyone give me any info regarding the illness Giant Cell Arteritis?.?

My mother suffers from this,it's a condition to do with inflammation of the arteries.Apart from a high dose of steroids the Doctors don't know much about it.Does anyone else out there suffer from this?
----------

I don't suffer from this, but I have seen patients with it. There is so much unknown about this disease and there is a lot of overlap with this disease and polymyalgia rheumatica, so your mother is lucky to have gotten a diagnosis.
There is evidence that adjunctive treatment with methotrexate lowers the risk of relapse so you could advise that your mother ask about this.
I'm sure you can trust your doctor to know what's best.
Make sure that your mother is on the look out for temporal headaches and visual problems because temporal arteritis can cause blindness.
I'm sorry I don't know any more about the disease.  (+ info)

Has anyone had a recurring Giant Cell Tumor?

7 years ago I had a Giant Cell tumor removed from my left knee but the doctor couldnt get all of the tumor because of the location. The last two weeks I have has quite a bit of pain and pressure in my knee(without injury) I was told there was a chance that it could grow back. Could that be the cause of my discomfort? I know I dont want to get the point I was last time. It was pretty painful
I have not had my tumor checked since post op. He never said to keep getting it checked. He said he had to hook it and rip it out. Which didnt sound all that great. Ive been surching on online, and according to what I have read there should have been more done to try and prevent it from recurring. I was told from its location it was to hard to get to w/ arthroscopic surgery and he did what he could. He didnt want to cut my knee open. I did make an appointment to speak with my physician.
----------

Yes it could be the cause of your discomfort. Have they been doing periodic CT scans to keep an eye on what was left of the tumor? I just had a giant cell tumor removed last week. But they told me if it caused by PVNS (which mine was) there is up to a 40% chance of reoccurance. I would see your doctor and have them do a MRI or CT to check.  (+ info)
