Does anybody know of a good treatment for a hemangioma birthmark?

Does anybody know of any surgeons that deal with these?
mine has never gone away and it's very vascular.
----------

If you are over the age of 10 and it is still very vascular, it is probably not a hemangioma. Some doctors will refer to any vascular anomaly as a hemangioma, but true hemangiomas occur only in infants, and lose their vascular quality during involution (though some permanently leave scars or discolored skin).

A good place to start your search for treatment is the Vascular Birthmark Foundation. They can help you find a doctor to evaluate your condition.  (+ info)

To mothers that have babies with a Hemangioma?

Hemangioma AKA Strawberry Mark
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemangioma

My daughter has one on her chest, it is probably just a bit smaller than the size of a quarter. Did anyone feel like they had to be so careful? Her doctor said not to worry about it, more than likely nothing would happen, like it would start to bleed or anything. But still! It completely worries me!

How long before it went away? And did anything ever happen, like did it ever bleed? What are your experiences with this?

Thanks!
----------

My daughter doesn't have one, but my niece does. Hers is located on the side of her head, in her hair. When she was young, and it was new, but no at 18 months, we don't even think about it. Hers was rather large. It is one that looks like a raised bump. One like the second picture dodownn your link, not the first one. When researching them, I found that hers wasn't bad at all, and they can be rather severe. Hers is proprobablylf the size it used to be, but she also has a lot more hair now, so it's not even noticeable. I'd actactuallyve to really look at it to see what size it is. Nothing ever happened with it. It would get slightly larger, in the summer, if it was hot out, but that's really it.  (+ info)

What is the treatment for a cavernous angioma of the right frontal lobe?

Symptoms include seizures, headaches, nausea
----------

Cerebral cavernous angioma is a rare vascular malformation. There are at least three genes known to cause cavernous angiomas and they are inherited in a dominant autosomal manner. That is the patient has a 50% chance of inheritating the disease. One usually sees cavernous angiomas in at least one of the parents. Literature suggests that about 10% of patients with cavernous angioma have multiple angioma. Some angiomas are so small that they will not be detected by angiography and only when they become symptomatic do their presence become obvious. They do have a tendency to bleed, and when they are located in a quiet part of the brain, there will be no symptoms. As far as how dangerous these may be it depends on where the lesions are located. The angiomas will bleed, heal and rebleed. As they do this they grow in size. There is little that one can do about the bleeding. If the angioma is located in a place where surgery or intervention (coiling, etc) can occur, then these are possible ways of controlling bleeding. Coiling is a technique to clot off an aberrant vessel or aneursym. It is used by the neurosurgeons when the abnormal vessel or vascular mass is of the appropriate stuctural shape. The treatment of choice is surgical. The cavernoma and its surrounding gliotic and hemosiderotic tissue are removed using microsurgical techniques.
In all cases when more detailed medical information is required, you would be advised to consult a doctor or neurosurgeon.

Has anyone had successsful treatment for a strawberry hemangioma on their baby?

I have a 2 month old that has developed a strawberry on her cheek. It is about an 1/8 of an inch right now. I have done a lot of research on this and the thought of the possibility of how large it can get terrifies me. I am curious if anyone has had their child treated for this, and what treatment is the most successful. How old were they when you had this done?
----------

My 8 month old baby boy has a little one on the top of his right hand. It has stayed about the same size in shape (since 2 weeks old), but is slowly getting less red. My pediatrician said that most hemangiomas fall off when baby is about one year old. I'm waiting to find out now. Good luck with your LO!  (+ info)

Is an hemangioma the same thing as an aneurysm?

Had an MRI of the spine and it shows a hemangioma at the T8 vertebral.
----------

No Hemangioma and Aneurysm are different:

Hemangioma: A birth irregularity where a localized tissue mass grows rich in small blood vessels. Capillary hemangiomas are composed nearly entirely of tiny capillary vessels. Cavernous hemangiomas are composed of blood- filled "lakes" and channels.

An hemangioma may be visible through the skin as a birthmark, known colloquially as a "strawberry mark." Most hemangiomas that occur at birth disappear after a few months or years.

Aneurysm: A localized widening (dilatation) of an artery, vein, or the heart. At the area of an aneurysm, there is typically a bulge and the wall is weakened and may rupture. The word "aneurysm" comes from the Greek "aneurysma" meaning "a widening."  (+ info)
