Sex five days after a subdural hematoma?

Five days ago I suffered a skull fracture and hematoma that has mostly paralyzed my right hand and slightly affected my speech. I was released from the hospital 2 days ago because the adema was not getting larger, and I have been recovering at home.

Other than a headache and the paralysis, I feel mostly well. I have been warned not to do anything that would raise my blood pressure and the pressure on the parts of parts of my brain that have been damaged.

I live with my girlfriend and we haven't had sex for more than a week. Would it be safe, or would I risk further brain damage, cause additional bleeding, or risk a seizure?

what is a subdural hematoma?

Blood clot that occurs on the surface of the brain and just below the dura (covering of the brain). A subdural hematoma usually occurs from the tear of one of the veins that drain the brain of blood. Subdural hematomas can be either acute (after a recent injury), or chronic (after an old and sometimes unforgotten, even minor or trivial) head injury.  (+ info)

My brother might have subdural hematoma.....?

I know about it, a blood clot in the brain, I want to be a pediatric surgeon when I grow up, but I'm only 14, and I have no idea how damaging it is.

He was wrestling with his friends and got hit very hard in the skull and lost conscience for about 10 seconds (which is a long time to be without conscience). He vomited afterwards then came home and went to bed. He got up and vomited again and my mother took him to the hospital. They've been there since 4:00.

How muchtreatment can be done? What is the survival rate?

please, I'm scared to death.

I am sorry to read about your brother. I wish him a complete recovery. For questions like that, I recommend you go to Webmd.com
Sometimes they use meds to break up the clot and sometimes they do surgery, sometimes just rest to see if the clot dissipates on its own, it depends on the location, severity and the general health of the patient.  (+ info)

Has anyone been through with a family member a subdural hematoma?

I have a grandfather that has been going through a lot lately. Last year in November my grandmother passed away from a deadly disease that was untreatable. At the same time my grandpa was going through a double by-pass surgery that he got over right away. And then he took a bad fall at a nursing home. So right now he had the surgery but he is not doing the same things that he did before the surgery. I was just wondering if anyone else can tell me their stories about it. My grandfather is turning 90 yrs old next month.
Thank you.

I'm very sorry to hear about this -- I'd like to wish you my condolences and I certainly hope for the best. At 90 years of age, your grandfather should be quite grateful to have the health to survive his medical complications.

I haven't gone through this exact situation but I do know that, as you mentioned, falls can be quite damaging to elderly and it's important to make sure it can be prevented whenever possible.

It may be time to start accepting that there is little you can do to help other than be there keeping him company. At this link you can see some special information that might be of help as far as your grandfather's feelings with the passing of his wife and any grief you may be feeling as well.

Please do take care and again, I wish you my condolences  (+ info)

Will I have any long term problems as a result of my subdural hematoma?

I had been experiencing severe headaches and I finally went to the E.R.! They did a CT scan and found that I had a bleeding into the brain. I underwent emergency surgery. It was a 7mm mass and I am left with a 2mm mass. I am a 56 year old female in relatively good health. This emergency was due to a severe beating from my exfiance! He has hit me at least 150 times in the head over the last 6 wk. He is now in jail and charged with a 1st degree assault....great bodily harm! Since I've been home from the hospital, I've noticed that my short term memory is getting terrible. I also find that I get overwhelmed and confused very easily! Is this to be expected, and if so, will it be a permanent thing? It is really frustrating for me to be always forgetting things! Is there something that can be done to improve my memory, or will it get better on its own? My first followup visit with the neurosurgeon isn't until next week, and I would like to know something sooner than that.
----------

Your injury would be consistent with temporary short term memory loss. Try to relax and be peaceful, as increased anxiety will also increase blood pressure and increase the volume of your brain. Low excitement and restfulness should be your objective to assist healing to occur.

My condolences for your loss.  (+ info)

why are subdural hematomas found in the frontal section of the brain?

Even if the occipital region of the brain was damaged, why are subdural hematomas found in the frontal region?

How long does a hematoma last after having heart catheterization?

I developed a very large hematoma on my upper thigh following a heart catheterization. It has been over three weeks, I have had one blood transfusion and am now on iron supplements. Nothing seems to be helping this thing go away. The doctors checked it and it is not an aneurysm, but I am still worried that it isn't healing quickly enough. Any thoughts?
----------

A hematoma is a collection of blood under the skin. Initially there is no bruising or color. Instead it first appears as a hard lump under the skin. Although the bleeding typically stops with the application of pressure, the bruise (the medical term is echymosis) will last a long time while the blood is resorbed by the body. In fact over time the area of echymosis will increase in size as the blood spreads out under the skin. Typically it will track down the thigh due to the effects of gravity. As the echymosis resolves the color will chnage from black and blue to yellow and green as it slowly fades away. Depending on the size of the original hematoma this can take up to 6 or 8 weeks.  (+ info)

After wisdom teeth extration a week ago, I deveopled a hematoma, any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

My hematoma is located in my right cheeck, and happened 3 days post op. My DDS put me on antibiotics, and told me to follow up with him. It looks horrible and feels even worse. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it and/or make it feel better?
----------

I assume it's a hematoma on the outer cheek, visible to others.

If so, cover it up with some heavy make-up (like Dermablend, it's called corrective make-up) and follow the dentist for the rest.  (+ info)
