How have high HIV/AIDS infections contributed to lower economic growth rates?

Also, what groups in society would be more prone to the infection, why?
----------

Too lazy to answer the whole question, but...

HIV/AIDS lowers economic growth rates by reducing the work force. The more people who are sick the less who can work and generate an income. In addition, the more sick people are the bigger the drain on government tax dollars due to increased cost of health care.

Most prone to infection: Injection drug users, marginalized people, the poor  (+ info)

people infected with hiv the virus that causes the disease aids can becoke unable to fight off infections by o?

people infected with HIV the virus that causes the disease aids can become unable to fight off infections by organism that normally do not harm people why is it so?
anyone know??
----------

Because HIV and Aids attack the immune system. So basically there will be no barrier between the body and any germs or bacteria.  (+ info)

HIV Virus Infections Attracted To Any Specific Locus?

I am wondering if a vaccine for HIV could be practical if the scientists only had to worry about just certain parts of the genome/DNA.
Are infectious viruses attracted to certain locations (loci?) of the genome.
If that was the case then perhaps just a small part of the DNA could be inhibited by drugs.
----------

*buzzer* wrong!

The HIV "nucleic" acid is predatory in nature and attaches wherever it wants.

Besides if we could inhibit DNA that effectively we could have healed a lot more then HIV.

The real deal is in membrane p[roteins that HIV uses. HIV immune people lack these proteins and cannot get sick even with HIV in their system.  (+ info)

Why do young people have the highest rates of new HIV infections

can anyone explain why hiv causes more frequent yeast infections in women?

it doesn't seem like getting a yeast infection has anything to do with how weak of strong your immune system is.
----------

A yeast infection, like ringworm, jock itch, and athletes' foot is caused by a fungus. In the case of a yeast infection, women have this fungus growing in their vaginas most of the time, but when that fungus begins to grow out of control, you get a yeast infection.
Your body has natural defenses against fungi such as this, but when your immune system is compromised, your body doesn't have the resources to fight the fungal infection.  (+ info)

What's the state in the USA with the highest level of HIV infections?

just wondering about which states, I think Illinois is one of them but Im not really sure about that, if u can give me futher inf would be awesome, this's a project I have in my university so I'll appreciate all inf I can get, thanks
----------

DC has the highest rate per capita of AIDS (not just HIV) notifications at 2016 per 100,000, followed by Maryland, New York and Delware.

That's a 2% rate of AIDS (not just HIV infection) in DC. HIV infection prevalence rates will be several percentage points higher than that, higher than in some subsaharan African countries.

DC, you got a problem.

AIDS rates are highest in the Northeast, followed by the Southeast, and then California.

HIV (not progressed to AIDS) prevalence rates are harder to determine, because many states (including California) either do not report infections or only began to do so recently.

DC would almost certainly top the list here, but there are no relaible estimates available. Of states that do have figures, New York has the highest estimated HIV prevalence. Prevalence is also high in the southern states around Florida and Louisiana.

Illinois hasn't reported HIV cases, and is about 14th in rates of people living with AIDS.  (+ info)

why is a person with HIV unable to fight off oportunistic infections?

opportunistic organisms can't generally cause disease..because your body is prepared to fight them...through your immune system with help of white blood cells, the warrior cells of your blood.

Now HIV virus enters your white blood cells(specifically T-lymphocytes,a type of white blood cell) and destroys them. so your immune system is worsened. as it infects more t-lymphocytes,your body gets weaker.ultimately,it yields to opportunistic infections....  (+ info)

is it true yeast infections can turn into HIV?

its akinda of an awkward question i know but i want to know.
----------

A yeast infection is a bacterial infection. It can happen for all sorts of reasons involving the balance of the flora in your vagina, etc.

To catch HIV, or any other STI for that matter, it must be transmitted from somewhere. If you have no risky contact with someone with HIV or any other STI, you have nothing to worry about.

I've heard similar stories from injecting drug users concerned that Hepatitis C can "grow" in their own used but unshared needles. It's just urban legend, although in this case one that some doctors seem to encourage.

Once more - the HIV has to come from somewhere. A yeast infection won't mysteriously produce it.  (+ info)
