is there any diseases you can get from having sex with a horse?

like if the horse penatraited a human girl culd she get sick? or would it be ok? just wondering...

So...are you a serious and legitimately representing yourself as a person? I ask because I've seen several Y!A utterances of yours (each crazier and more backwards than the last) and I simply refuse to believe that a person like you exists and functions on the same planet as the rest of us. I can only assume that this is some sort of preposterous joke - or maybe preparing for a character acting role?  (+ info)

What are some diseases that horses can get if the symptom is weight loss?

My pony, Spirit, has been loosing weight very quickly. We recently got another horse,Cherry, and about 7 months later my pony, Spirit started loosing weight.
----------

maybe your horse is feeling the stress of another horse coming to your place or the other horse mayb stealing its food or its diffrent kinds of a worm that require different treatment, so you have to alternate between them to ensure maximum protection. Try a different wormer, but do act promptly on this and seek the advice of your local veterinary surgeon for advice.

Since your horse is eating normally but apparently not getting the appropriate level of nourishment from it, he is either not getting enough food and shelter, or, more likely, has a type of worms that is not included in your normal worm treatment.

If a new wormer does not work and your horse is losing condition more so than you would expect during the winter, then you must seek veterinary advice in case there is some other underlying medical problem causing your horse to lose weight.  (+ info)

Should i buy a horse that has navicular disease?

ok I have been very afraid of riding horses and my husbands friend has an 16 y/o mare and she is dead broke and i feel great on her BUT is has navicular disease. I am so confused about what to do. I have read alot about it. She was a great roping horse at one time. I just want one that i can trail ride and get use to it. I don't want to spend alot of money on her. What should I do?
----------

You'd probably get more responses on this in the horse section(look under the pets category), but I'll give you my two cents.

Navicular is a chronic condition, it does not get better and will eventually get worse. It is also a painful condition for the horse. Some horses do well with light work with the proper management, including special shoeing, soft ground, and possibly an NSAID like bute (phenylbutazone) to keep them comfortable. Some horses are treated by "nerving", damaging the nerve so that the horse can no longer feel pain (or anything) in that foot. It sounds good right?Well not really. The damage is still there, and the horse is at a risk of injuring itself. A typical horse can step on a nail and come up lame, you would see the horse is lame and then look for the source and treat it. A nerved horse would have no idea that he is injured, and unless you checked very carefully and frequently, neither would you, until maybe a serious infection developed. Nerved horses are not safe for the rider either, particularly for trail riding or jumping. The horse can not feel his foot, putting him at risk for stumbling or even falling on uneven terrain. If the mare has been nerved I would definitely pass.

This horse would most likely have a low purchase price (as she should because of the navicular - that trumps her show record and temperament). However, people who've been around horses for a while soon realize that the purchase price is not the expensive part of horse ownership, the upkeep is. This mare will most likely require special shoeing for the rest of her life (it varies with where you live, but just as an example of the difference the prices in my area are $30 for a trim, $60 for 2 normal shoes and$100-120 for 2 special shoes for a navicular horse). Eventually she may need supplements and/or bute to keep her comfortable. And eventually you may end up with a mare who is unrideable despite the best care you can give and still has all of these expenses, are you prepared for that? At 16 she could have 20 years to live, but no one can say how long she will be sound.

The mare sounds like she has a great temperament, and it's important to find a horse you feel comfortable on that can carry you safely. I would consider leasing this mare, talk to the owner to see if that would be an option. If not, keep looking. Some of the nicest, kindest, most bombproof horses are older horses who may not be up to their previous careers but are still SOUND and often they are not very expensive due to their age. A horse like this could be a nice first horse for you. Have the horse checked by a vet and keep in mind the cost of upkeep as well, as some older horses have special needs to keep them as healthy and fit as possible. Good luck with your search!

What Diseases do Deer Flies or Horse Flies carry? am i over reacting?

Today i was fishing with a friend we live in Upstate NY, I was bitten by what appeared to be a Deer Fly or a Horse Fly. It bit me and then i swatted it off my ankle. I was fishing near a bunch of people so i was Just curious if Deer Flies can carry HIV/Aids or Lyme Disease or Tularemia/Rabbit Fever?

I assume the last 2 are carried but i was worried either way....

Thanks i appreciate your feedback..
----------

Those flies are really nasty! They don't carry HIV/AIDS but they do carry a number of other diseases.

The flies can transmit anthrax, tularemia (rabbit fever), loa loa (a skin and eye disease), and filariasis in humans. Filariasis is a nasty tropical disease that is very rare in the West. They can transmit Lyme disease, as you said.

In addition to the diseases the flies transmit, some people have allergic reactions to the saliva the flies pour into the wound to prevent clotting when it feeds. Symptoms are severe lesions, high fever, and even general disability.

It seems unlikely you'd get any of the more "exotic" diseases from one fly in upstate NY, but as I'm sure you know, Lyme disease is not uncommon there. Lyme disease can be treated successfully with anitbiotics, especially if it's diagnosed early. Hope you're ok and don't have it!  (+ info)

Can prolonged sore muscles be a symptom of any diseases?

If after doing physically straining exercises the muscles get weak/sore (a.k.a. "charley horse") but remain that way for several days (normal would be about a day, I think) and are more intense than usual could that be a symptom of something?

Anything to worry about?

My horse has cushings disease AND laminitis?

He has to stay in one paddock with no grass and he is not allowed on concrete. He obviously doesn't like it. Any ideas how to calm him down and make him more comfortable?
----------

I would have emailed but you don't allow it.
You would do better to post this question in another section - like animals/horses. You are in the human health section so it will not get the expert viewing and advice you need.
Have you spoken to a vet or looked on relevant sites online?
I know there are sedatives for dogs, but I know zilch abourt horses.

I've put links to a couple of them.I am sorry about your horse and hope he does well on medication, but he does need expert vetinary advice and treatment.  (+ info)

Do people who are involved in beastiality get any diseases or cancers?

I dated someone for 2 years and had intercourse with them, we didn't use anything because I was on the pill and we had been friends for years and were both virgins but now he told me he used to have intercourse with dogs and horses. This isn't a joke, I am really freaked out about this and worried about my health. So could I have caught anything from this man?

See your gynecologist he/she is the only one who can truly answer that correctly.  (+ info)

How do you prevent disease in a horse?

Same way you do for any mammal, even humans.
Keep the animal clean, it's stall and hay bedding cleaned often, and give the horse a good diet.

Regular medical checkups should include required shots for immunization from diseases. Hoofs have to be filed when necessary, and shoes put on by a professional to avoid hoof injuries.

Keeping the animal warm, when it's cold out, and cool when it's too hot out, cannot hurt.
Raising a horse, is much like raising a child. It cannot take care of itself, when kept in a barn, or corral.
