Glycine encephalopathy, also known as non-ketotic hyperglycinemia or NKH, is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally high levels of the amino acid glycine. Glycine acts as a neurotransmitter, which is a chemical messenger that transmits signals in the brain.
Glycine encephalopathy is caused by the shortage of an enzyme that normally breaks down glycine in the body. A lack of this enzyme allows excess glycine to build up in tissues and organs, particularly the brain, leading to serious medical problems.

I need information on Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia. the rare genetic disorders found in some infants.?
I am writing a 6 page report on this topic Non Ketotic Hyperglycinemia and can't really find all the information i need. the reason being is because it is a rare genetic disorder and there isn't much information to be found on it. my two year old cousin had this disorder and passed away at the age of two and i know there has been more research on this disorder. I need to know just the basics. which parent does it come from, the definition, and some other things. it will be greatly appreciated if you can help.

it depends on how your body react on your meds or on diabetes..maybe you just have to ask your doctor for further information just to make sure on your question..there are lot of reasons on how diabetes get worse..the right food,exercise,meds and aslo on how you protect yourself for further complications..just ask your doctor about your question and maybe this site help you in extra information about diabetes.. It's an inherited metabolic disorder. It's really best to talk to a doctor or a genetic specialist about that because there are so many variables that can determine if a person will get it or not. If anything ask about this in the health category they might be able to give you more info but it's best to see a specialist (
