Hyperprolactinemia.....?

What do you know about this? I am trying to conceive with this and I am not ovulating. I am trying to do research on this, but I am not turning up a whole lot of information. Can anyone help?
----------

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but when I was trying for my first baby I also was not ovulating and my dr. did bloodwork and said my prolactin levels were high. He prescribed a drug (I can't remember offhand what it was but it was a drug for parkinson's disease!!) that lowered the prolactin levels to a normal level.

I just checked online - Hyperprolactinemia does mean high prolactin levels so you do have the same problem that I had. I also looked up the drug I took, it was Parlodel. Hope this helps!  (+ info)

Anyone else have a microadenoma that causes hyperprolactinemia?

I have a pituitary gland tumor that causes me to lactate as if I were breastfeeding. I have taken Dostinex for this, but now I'm without health insurance and cannot afford the $186 generic prescription for 8 pills (cabergoline). Are there alternate treatments for this condition?
----------

I do not know anything about your condition, but I have a suggestion for your symptom of over-lactation.

Sage and Parsley will both dry up your milk supply when taken in therapeutic doses. Women who do not wish to breastfeed or who are ready to wean their babies use this natural method.

You can get either in capsule form or you can make the leaves into a tea and drink it.

Teas can be made by pouring 1 cup of boiling water over 1–2 tsps. of dried herb. Let the tea steep, covered, for 5 minutes or so. Teas can be served hot or cold, and brewed many different ways. You can buy the herb that you choose in bulk and make a large amount of tea to keep in the fridge.
Visit this site for more information on making herbal teas:

You can do a search about the other benefits of sage and parsley and that may help you decide which one you want to use. For instance, sage is also good for "persistent bacterial infections within and without the body."

Here's another thought! The above website has a section called "Need a Remedy." If you look in the "T" section, it lists several herbs that will help with "Thyroid Conditions." Among them: cayenne pepper and Siberian Ginseng.
I hope this encourages you.  (+ info)

Does being diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia mean that you DO have a tumor in the pituitary gland?

The most common causes are pituitary tumor, thyroid imbalance or medication side effect (if you are not pregnant).

Do know that up to 40% of pituitary tumors do not show up on MRIs so having a normal one may not put you in the clear. My teeny little one hid for 12 years.

If it is a tumor, it is most commonly treated with medication, not surgery. Make sure your doctor tests all your hormones, not just a couple. A neuro-endocrinologist is best.  (+ info)

being diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia?

does being diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia mean that you DO have a tumor in the pituitary gland?
----------

Not necessarily. There can be several causes of hyperprolactinemia. Yes, a tumor is one of those, but its not the only one. Many drugs can cause it, and it can be idiopathic (not caused by any disease condition).

The wikipedia page has a pretty good list.

Is there any medication for hyperprolactinemia?

Your question wound up in the Mental Health category. You really could get better answers by putting your question in the Diseases & Conditions, Women's Health, or General Health categories. However, the best answer for your question should come from a medical doctor.

I did find the following info in Wikipedia.
"Two drugs that have been used [for hyperprolactinemia] are the dopamine agonists cabergoline and bromocriptine. A new drug in use is norprolac with the active ingredient quinagolide."

If you are willing to do quite a bit of research, you might get some answers from the following two links. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS336US336&q=hyperprolactinemia

The years wait is over its a year ago this month we had our pre conception check up and found this high pro lactin the gyn is putting me onto dostinex.Basically my body is acting pregnant and producing milk and stopping my ovulate apparatnly this medication lowers the levels so i will ovulate.Im only asking if anyone else has used it if so how long before you becamme pregnant
----------

I have thought that prolactin is the hormone that makes your breasts lactate. Its also known as the pregnancy hormone. But putting you on medication to reduce your prolactin might not be a good idea if you are planning pregnancy or are pregnant. Since tyou have decided to wait a year that might be a good idea. wait until your stabilized to try again. if you become pregnant call your doctor immediately.  (+ info)

is agnus castus extract effective in hyperprolactinemia?

Studies have historically shown that extracts of Vitex agnus-castus fruits (VACF) do indeed have beneficial effects on disorders related to hyperprolactinemia(1). Further studies indicate that Vitex agnus-castus extract has been successfully used in the treatment of many female conditions, including menstrual disorders, premenstrual syndrome, corpus luteum insufficiency, hyperprolactinemia, infertility, acne, menopause and disrupted lactation. Specific clinical reviews are available for the efficacy of VAC in PMS, cycle disorders, hyperprolactinaemia and mastalgia. Studies further show that any adverse effects following VACF usage are mild and reversible; indicating that it is a safe herbal medicine. The most frequent side effects include nausea, headache, gastrointestinal disturbances, menstrual disorders, acne, pruritus and erythematous rash. No drug interactions have been reported, although patients are counseled not to use it with hormone therapy.[2]

Any cures for hyperprolactinemia?

I went to the doctors because I was having hormonal problems. Everything came out normal but he said one thing did not and that I have hyperprolactinemia. He said my levels should be at 10 and right now there at 26. He said they have to get an MRI to rule out a tumor. The only symptom that I have is that my nipples harden. He also said because I have large breast( I'm a 38D, hereditary) Keep in mind I'm only a 17 year old girl and I'm a little shaken up when he said tumor so if your going to answer please dont joke about this. I already had a cancer scare recently and I just want serious answers. I know you guys arent doctors but what I'm asking is if there is any non perscripted meds or fruits/food that will help? & is 26 too high?
----------

i was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor and the only thing you can do is take the medicine that your doctor prescribes to you. I take bromocriptine and this has significantly lowered my prolactin level. I think just eating healthy will improve your overall health but will not change your prolactin level. My prolactin was about 165 at its highest and now it is down to about 38. A normal prolactin level is between 20 and 30 i think, but you should ask your doctor what a normal level is. good luck!  (+ info)
