Hypertension?


Is there any substitute herbal medication for Hypertension? I want to stop taking my current drug medication due to possible harmful side effects of beta blockers like impotence and etc.?

hypertension?


i have constantly changing blood pressure it varies between 150 t0 120 within minutes does this hypertension? actually im changing my position between the readings also i think im overweight may be this is the reason all i want to know is that do i have hypertension or it is the boderline hypertension or i can just get it right by just changing my diet i will be grateful at ur help

What is the relation of hypertension and risk for decrease cardiac output?


I am doing my nursing care plan and I can't get the relation of hypertension and risk for cardiac output.

i'm not sure the exact form of the curve, but more hypertension there's more risk of low cardiac uotput.-
increasing the blood pressure increases the pressure the heart has to overpower to bomb the blood.-
there's a range where the compensatory mecanisms of the heart (frank-satrling and those) can mantain the output, but after they stop working the output start to decrease.-

Artery is a plaque build-up in the arteries, causing the arteries to be less flexible and smaller inside than they would normally be. The arteries that bring blood back and forth to the heart have smaller openings in them than they normally would. When that happens, there is more pressure from the blood flowing through the arteries, so you can get high blood pressure from this. You can also get high blood pressure if your arteries are constricted from any other reason. Think of how water would flow through a hose. If you had a large hose with a large diameter, the water would flow gradually from the hose. If you put the same amount of water through a hose that is a lot smaller in diameter, the water would be under more pressure (you would see it spurting out faster and harder). Arteries that are larger in diameter make for lower blood pressure than arteries that have a smaller opening. If the doctor says it is O.K. try taking a multi-vitamin with high B vitamins in it, and then also eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables along with something in your diet that gives you some calcium. What's the difference between a hypertension specialist and a cardiologist?


I just underwent echocardiogram and was found out I have Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). My doctor is a hypertension specialist. Some officemates told me that I should also consult a cardiologist. But I think my doctor is already okay for me. Is it really necessary to see a cardiologist?

hypertension specialist is an expert in dealing wit blood pressure such as high blood pressure but cardiologist is an expert with dealing with the heart. i think it might be necessary just to make sure.  (+ info)

how is hypertension related to pneumonia? and can be fatigue a cause of pneumonia?


i am a nursing student in third level and i am doing my defense in my case presentation on Tuesday.
my patient is a 68 yrs. old female, and household personnel.
she has pneumonia with a medical family history of hypertension.
she is non-smoker and non-drinker person.

What could be the cause of uncontrolled hypertension?


My primary care physician and cardiologist are scratching their heads over my condition. My pressure is ALWAYS around 160/90. They have tried almost every prescription to treat my high blood pressure. Right now I'm on Hyzaar in conjunction with Norvasc, both at the maximum dose and my pressure hasn't budged a millibar. I tried looking for info on uncontrolled hypertension on the Web but I only found vague answers. Maybe someone knows someone that had this. What did they do about it?

Hyzaar and Norvasc are great medications for treatment of blood pressure, but I agree, a renal sonogram to rule out renal stenosis (or cysts), would be a good start. You may also want to have them do blood work to rule out a Pheochromocytoma by checking for Plasma Free Metanephrine levels; Perform a 24-hour urine collection for creatinine, total catecholamines, vanillylmandelic acid, and metanephrines.

Additionally, you might want to see if the doctors will add an Alpha 2 (like Clonidine) to your regimen, taken 3 times daily. That can usually do the trick.

Hypertension like this is very difficult and trying. I'm certain you've been through a lot dealing with it. I've got a few patients just like you, and it took putting them on Clonidine, and sometimes Alpha 1 meds (like Cardura and Hytrin) before I could get them to goal.

How to stay active and healthy despite having hypertension and diabetes?


I am 56 years old, currently on medication for hypertension and diabetes. Still working, but work is rather stressful and thought of resigning. Any advice?

You should start walking immediately. Regular walks, 2-3 miles every day, will go a long way in reducing weight, lowering your BP, and potentially curing you of the effects of diabetes.

The key to any exercise program is staying motivated and setting realistic goals. First off if you haven't been exercising you should have a check up with your doctor to ensure they give you the all clear to begin - they should be able to give you some suggestions on what sort of exercises are suitable for you. Brisk walking, swimming and some gentle aerobic exercises like yoga or tai chi could be good options.

If you join a gym or an exercise class make sure you tell them about your health status.

Secondly, it helps to rope in a friend or partner to join you in whatever exercises you chose to have a go at. Having someone else involved means your more likely to stick with it.

As you're doing this for the health benefits don't try to cram lots of exercise in or join loads of classes, make your regime realistic and achievable. You're in this for the long term.

Which leads to finding exercises you enjoy. You don't have to stick with just one either, the more varied your exercises are the more interested you'll be in keeping going. Remember exercise can include attending a dance class or taking up a new hobby - it doesn't have to be restricted to gym sessions

Keeping a journal so you can see the positive changes brought about by sticking to your new hypertension exercise program can be a great way of staying motivated. Don't forget to put in your blood pressure readings and watch them drop.

As you've already mentioned diet you probable realise that exercising isn't the whole answer. If you're overweight you need to try and lose the extra pounds. The exercise will help with that, but you may need to modify your diet too. Get rid of processed, high fat and high in salt foods and replace with fresh produce that is freshly prepared.

When the going gets tough and you don't feel like doing your exercises just tell yourself how much it's helping your health and that by doing it you're going to be working towards lowering your blood pressure and improving your health. Its all about choosing the hard right over the easy wrong.

Don't forget to reward yourself - not with a big sugary doughnut of course (remember the diet modifications!), but with something that is just for you. If could be a new CD, a book or even a new item of clothing - anything that will encourage you to keep going.
