is there any such thing as infant tourettes? Or any nerve disorders that occur in newborns (2 months)?

My 2 month old has these fits like jerking around and grunting, and he seems to scream ALOT. My doctor says it's colic and that he has excess gas. He has been this way since we bright him home (3 days old) he other wise is very healthy weighs about 13 lbs and is 23 in.
Has a good grasp smiles regularly and has great head control. Can anyone tell me if their children have these times when they are very nervous?
----------

newborns are spastic! they're developing coordination, and just figuring things out! they also get tired, and get frustrated easily!
there have been plenty of times where i check my baby, because it almost looks like she's seizing! but she's not. sometimes she's gassy, sometimes she's pooping, sometimes she's mad, sometimes she's trying to do something, and just can't!
however, you know your baby best. if your baby is unresponsive, her eyes are acting strangely, or if you just know that something is not right, keep going to your doctor.
you are your baby's best and only advocate.
but remember, newborns and young babies often look like this, and it often is just them developing!  (+ info)

How can we educate people more about good nutrition?

With all the obesity and eating disorders going on, it seems like maybe we're not educated about nutrition and exercise enough to eat healthy .I know for a fact that they didn't teach us squat about nutrition or weight loss in public school, which is in my opinion a major concern.
But we already have good, healthy food that you can grow in your backyard : fruit and veggies :)
Thanks, I didn't know about Michelle Obama!! That is an awesome thing she is doing.

I think it's the FDA's and parents' fault, really. They try to get schools to serve healthier lunches (which, by many standards, are still not very healthy.) Additionally, excessive attention is paid to Calories, while very little is paid to what TYPE of Calories are being consumed (i.e. protein, carbohydrates, fats).

The harm of fat is also grossly overestimated, and importance of avoiding simple carbs hardly mentioned at all (most people don't know that sugars are simple carbs, let alone that many of their favorite non-sugary foods also contain simple carbs).

I asked my school why we can't be served whole milk, considering that fat-free milk contains as much as 10 more grams (roughly 2.5 teaspoons) more sugar than whole milk. They said that they have no control over what they feed us.

The other day, we had a school-wide (girls and boys separated) assembly (I'm a senior in high school), where we were handed a tiny flyer telling us how to "eat healthily." It involved a number of moronic comments, including living a low-fat lifestyle with NO MENTION of sugar.

I admit that not everyone has the capacity or desire to understand how their bodies function, but everyone should at least be given the opportunity. Even health classes don't give any justice to a truly proper diet. They make it sound as if you can eat as much of your favorite desert as you'd like, as long as you get your servings of fruits and vegetables, and DON'T EXCEED 2,000 CALORIES.

I can say for a fact that my base metabolic rate is around 2,500 Calories, and that is just the amount I need to SURVIVE with zero exercise while maintaining the same weight.

With the amount of exercise I do (1 hour a day, roughly), I need at least 3,000 Calories a day. Factor in my desire to gain muscle, and I need to eat as much as 4,000 Calories a day.

Education does nothing for people that have not opened themselves up to learning. People need to have a desire to read about it, learn about it, and change their lifestyles.

A large part of it is also parents and how they feed their children. I know kids who have been raised on hamburgers and cheap food, who now think that they can eat McDonalds for the rest of their lives because they haven't gotten pudgy at the age of 17 or 18.

I also know kids who claim that cigarettes increase their metabolisms to the extent that they can eat significantly more. I think much hope is lost, and we'd frankly be better off with many of these idiots dying. If someone doesn't respect his or her body to that great of a degree, I doubt the person's capacity of respecting anyone else.

To finish off on a completely misanthropic and cynical note, some people really should not breath.  (+ info)

What child food is good in nutrition as Mother's Milk?

Though my wife is breast feeding my child - it is not enough and we have started giving other infant foods also to my child. I want to know, what kind of food / preparation can give more nutrition and immunity like Mother's Milk.

Please help me.

Formula. As for immunity... that's just a natural process... or artificial if you use vaccinations.

What should my 14 month old infant be eating?

He has been drinking whole milk for over a month now and eating french fries, chicken, burger, etc... I just need some more ideas for good nutrition. Food that he can feed him self.
Thank you!

I will slice up apples and lightly steam them. My 16 mod loves these. He just discovered sliced (thinly by the way) nectarines. I also steam peas and carrots for my son. Right now he's moved to eating what everyone else eats with slight variation. Today I made everyone an fried eggs sandwich on homemade bread. I just cut the sandwich into small pieces and he ate it up. The only thing I serve raw to him are fruits. I still steam alot of his veggies. I have started giving him just a little bit of salad dressing or ketchup to help some of those not so nice veggies get down. Most of the time he finger paints with the ketchup but at least he's trying. hehehe!!!! Also, I found a special spoon that Sassy makes. It's called "Less Mess Toddler Spoons."

http://www.sassybaby.com/category?cattype=category&catid=27&productid=56&product=Less%20Mess%20Toddler%20Spoons

All of my babies have learned to eat with a spoon very early because of this spoon. I will give my son yogurt to eat with this. It sticks to the spoon so he doesn't make too big of a mess. He also eats the normal Cheerios and sometimes oatmeal for breakfast. Again, now he's feeding himself with his special spoon. He eats spaghetti with us. If he have Mexican food for dinner, I will give him a bowl of black beans (either homemade or from a can) that I have warmed and serve them with steamed veggies. Otherwise, he eats everything we eat now. But I have been introducing alot of these foods slowly over the past two months.

God Bless.

who all are dealing and treating infant cardiac disorders in pakistan?

na
----------

just about no one.

it is not the west there, and even with premium health care, the general prognosis is so bad, as to be financially unsustainable.

Pakistani health care is triage care from the minute you get sick.  (+ info)
