How do you classify, the microbe, Influenza?

I am a bit confused... How can you simply and clearly classify the microbe, Influenza? I don't really know how microbes are classified - I know it's a virus, is there anything I need to know about Influenza to classify it?

I don't want any complicated answers - this is homework help - remember that when your answering this.

Thank you!

Influenza, commonly known as flu, is an infectious disease of birds and mammals caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae (the influenza viruses).
The flu is caused by three types (strains) of viruses — influenza A, B and C. Type A is responsible for the deadly influenza pandemics (worldwide epidemics) that strike every 10 to 40 years. Type B can lead to smaller, more localized outbreaks. And either types A or B can cause the flu that circulates almost every winter. Type C has never been connected with a large epidemic.
Type C is a fairly stable virus, but types A and B are constantly changing, with new strains appearing regularly. Once you've had the flu, you develop antibodies to the virus that caused it, but those antibodies won't protect you from new strains. That's why doctors recommend getting a flu shot every year.  (+ info)

What does vaccine, contagious, influenza and isolated mean ?

What does vaccine, contagious, influenza and isolated mean ???

I know its to do with disease but not sure what it means..
----------

Vaccine-A shot you get to prevent a viral infection. It is made from dead viruses, so they cannot infect you. Your body recognizes the virus as an invader and creates antibodys to prevent you from getting the disease in the futre.
Contagious- Can be easily spread from person to person
Influenza- The flu virus. Can refer to various different strains of the flu.
Isolated- Alone. In pandemic terms, they have found the specific virus or have placed someone in a special room to prevent the spread of the virus.  (+ info)

How to prevent infant from influenza virus ?

Yes, how can I prevent my infant from influenza virus meanwhile she also has allergy problem. From her nose and throat we can hear like people who have cold or flu voices. She is almost 5 months old. I have visited doctor many times and got some medicine from doctor, but it doesn't work. My baby still in cold and flu condition. please help.
----------

The best way to help prevent influenza infection is to get an influenza vaccination each year, usually in early November. Unfortunately, immunization (administration of vaccine) against influenza is approved only for infants 6 months of age and over.

Until your infant is old enough to take vaccinations, you should look into home remedies and try to look for baby food with some of these ingrediants. I looked up some for you:

~ GINGER = best
~ GRAPEFRUIT
~ BASIL LEAVES
~ GARLIC = dont know if thats good for infant but works.

How does Influenza attack the body?

Do you know of a good website with diagrams and explanations of how Influenza A actually attacks the body. 10 Points best answer!
----------

It acually, the influenza A is a lung disease that can be easily spreaded. Everybody has to breathe in and out so thats how they get it. Influenza cant kill people but it weakens your immune system to let bad bacteria in for example (Pneumonia). Pneumonia is the worst part of influenza and can kill people.  (+ info)

What is the difference between swine flu or influenza and normal flu or influenza?

i was having fever since friday till yesterday ie. monday
i just went for a flu test(a regular flu test)
and they told me today morning that the A+B =Influenza
n i have A=positive(for influenza) n B = negative
so i'm safe from B but not from A
(is this related 2 my blood group{B+} ????)
now i'm going 2 a hospital get it checked
any suggestions?????
----------

Influenza is influenza the difference is the strain. The flu can infect mammals and birds. Only these groups can get the flu. That is why you have H1 H3 and H5 most flu viruses have genetic markers for 2 or all three H1N1 which is the current virus called swine flu. The A B has nothing to do with blood type it is they are sub-types B usually infects humans and is less rare than the A type that usually infect birds. Normally the flu mutates by picking up or jumping from pigs or birds to humans or visa-versa they trades genetic material that allows them to change hosts. the flu can mutate faster than almost any of virus on earth. The current swine flu is one of the most mild flu strains in recent history. The thing that is causing worry is that it has shown up in the summer where the flu virus normally likes colder weather and the fact that it spreads really easy from person to person. The viral lethality of H1N1 is very low. Seasonal type B flu that shows up every year kills way more people than the swine flu has. You don't need to stress over swine flu it is just another flu strain really. If you get it stay in bed drink lots of fluids take Tylenol like any other flu. If you have underlying heath problems see your doctor he might put you on tamiful to speed up recovery. Main thing is DON'T PANIC swine flu is not ebola it is not going to sneak up when your not looking and murder you.  (+ info)

Do I have swine flu or just caught another strain of influenza?

Okay, so I live in Clear Lake, Houston, TX and I just recovered from the regular influenza like a week ago. However, today during school, I suddenly started having a strong fever and when I got home, chills, extreme fatigue, and a sore throat. Since I just recovered from the flu a week ago, is this infection typical? I took some tylenol and took an hour nap and I feel much better now. Just wondering if it was swine flu.

Distinction between influenza and the common cold?

Hi there,

I'd just like to know what the difference is between the common cold and influenza and also, why healthy people can suffer from influenza and colds many times.

Thank you.
----------

the flu is rapid onset, the cold takes a few days
the flu causes a headache in 80% of cases the cold never really causes a headache
sneezing is uncommon with the flu but common with the cold
chills affect those with the flu by 60% but are uncommon with those who have a cold
the flu results in a dry cough, the cold gives you a cough that brings up mucus

you can get the cold and the flu over and over because these viruses constantly mutate and you never catch the same one twice.  (+ info)

Which wild birds are good to eat? Or pet ones?

Small birds (eg quails, baby chickens, duckling etc.) are delicious. What others? Sparrows? Starlings? Thrushes? Robins? Blackbirds? Wrens? It seems a pity to waste them when my cat brings them in.
----------

When we was kids, whatever we shot we ate. Black birds and starlings are tough and have a really wild taste. We always ate robins cause they tasted like dove. The other small bird take to many to make a meal. I would suggest letting the kitty eat whatever it catches.  (+ info)
