What medicine I need to take to kill intestinal parasites?

Can I buy them at Safeway, Priceline or sort of stores that I don't need to ask to buy those medicines. (I'm really shy when talking about this kind of thing).

Don't forget to tell me names of medicines.
----------

Honest to Pete. I can't imagine just trying some over the counter medication to kill intestinal parasites unless you know exactly what parasite you have. You should go to the doctor and get a diagnosis. Your symptoms may be caused by food allergies or something else quite different and you can make yourself sick. These medications are poisons which kill a specific thing.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20040301/1161.html describes many different types of parasites. You need to know what you have and they talk about fecal studies, counting ova (eggs), and the cellophane test (capturing something or other so it can be identified).

You may be shy, but doctors certainly have seen worse that your poop or pee.   (+ info)

What's the fastest way to reduce intestinal inflammation caused by Celiac disease?

In case of a one-time accidental exposure or contamination from an unknown source, how do you fix this? I am already on a gluten-free, casein-free, sugar-free diet.

I'd like to hear from anyone that has actually tried something for this and had good results.
Thanks, yes I also do peppermint tea and acidophilus to keep canciciasis at bay.

I rarely have an accident like yesterday, but it takes so long for the inflammation to go away. I took some magnesium citrate, that helpe.

I'm hoping to find something rapid in case this happens again. I might consider trying prednisone or something similar, just one or two doses.
----------

Honestly there is really no way to "heal" the body after an accidentaly gluten eating bc it just has to pass the system.
However, there are things I do to ease the pain afterwards.
I take aloe vera juice to get things "flowing" (I have constipation with eating gluten, not all do.)
Taking a walk if u can bear it will help the bloat and pain (for me)
Wheni ts REALLY bad all I can do is lay on myb elly an djust pray for it to be over!!!

FYI: Many sugar free foods contain gluten, and some artificial sweetners hurt the belly as they are chemically modified and not natural. If u are trying to avoid sugar, you might want ot try stevia, blue agave nectar or honey.

Best of luck and I hope u feel better!!  (+ info)

Can metabolism be linked to intestinal transit time?

If someone has a fast metabolism can that mean their body is absorbing almost all of the nutrients in food, leaving little waste and causing a long intestinal transit time?
----------

I believe that digestive rate is somewhat independent of metabolism, but is definitely influenced by metabolism. The more food you eat, the more food you need to processes, so it may seem as though digestion is 'faster' if you eat more, but the truth is, you just have more food going in and pushing older food through the intestinal tract. And it also depends on what you eat:

Solid versus liquid - liquids are emptied from the stomach more quickly than solids.

Fat content of the food - fat slows the digestive process and delays the availability of any Calories to the muscles.

Sugar concentration - especially in liquids, a sugar content of more than 10% will slow stomach emptying. (The use of complex carbohydrates, will offset this to some degree and offers an alternative strategy to maximize Caloric intake.)

and what you do:

Physical activity - the mechanical activity of digestion is slowed by any vigorous activity. In running the mechanical stimulation of abdominal contents from the sport itself slows digestive tract functioning.

And it can also be influenced by the type and amount of probiotics in the intestines because some species are better energy extractors. This means that two people eating the same diet can be different weights. One could be skinny, and the other could be obese.  (+ info)

What food should you eat if you have an intestinal infection?

Other than your prescribed meds that is. Fried foods are a no-no, but could I get some more specific examples?
----------

spicy and oily food is a strict no-no.....u can hav yogurt(not thick....add water and blend it to make it like a milkshake).....avoid bread and bakery items....eat anthing which is veg(digestable) and avoid red meat........  (+ info)

I need to clean out my system, but I do not want to be having to take a dump all of a sudden every 5 minutes. What a good solution to this? What else is good to detox your body from all the bad toxins and stuff like that?
----------

there are various herbal supplements - one can take them in a propriety blend designed as kit or take a single herb for cleansing.

one can go on a fruit and fruit juice diet.

Can humans have an intestinal disease that produces a smell similar to that of a dog with parvo?

Kind of a icky question...I know but I am worried because a friend of mine gives off a smell (especially when using the bathroom) that is very similar to the smell of a dog with parvo. It is a rotting smell...not joking. I have smelled a dog with parvo and it is something you dont forget. Can humans get something similar...or at least something that makes you smell like you are rotting from the inside out? Sorry this is so gross but it is serious.
----------

Well, I am no doctor but if I have learned anything from Dr. Oz its that your BM tells alot about your health. It should never have a strong odor and should be brown to dark brown...never black,maroon,green...anything like that. It should be mentioned to a doctor. It could just be that he or she is getting to much protien in their diet or they are getting too much or not enough of some other food or drink...but bring it up to the doc and see what he says. Better safe than sorry.  (+ info)

What do you do for intestinal flu to feel better?

I've taken phenergan and immodium and I feel like death. Totally watery stools; no food for 26 hours.
----------

What you need to drink before you dehydrate and pass out is PEDIALYTE. You need to replace the electrolytes in your body. That is what they give you by IV in hospital. You can get it at the pharmacy.

Pedialyte was made specifically for children since they dehydrate the quickest, but you should drink it as you sound like you are dehydrated. You will feel better after taking and replacing your electrolytes, but stay away from food and just eat crackers, white rice, in small doses. Don't drink anything acidy, just water, pedialyte, flat gingerale if you can take it, maybe apple juice watered down. Sugar is not good though for diarrhea, makes it worse.

You shouldn't take immodium with the flu...maybe after a few days but not right away. You need to get all that junk out of you before your body can heal. Just take little sips every 10 minutes or so.  (+ info)

How can you tell if you have a worm in you intestinal tract?

You know how some people get like worms in their stomach or their intestines? Well how can you tell if you have one or not? How do you get them anyways?
----------

If you have been around others with worms, and you share a place with poor hygiene, you can get worms from them. The worms make their homes mainly in your intestinal tract and the way you can tell if you have a worm/s is that you likely will see little white segments in your stool. You may also have a bloated stomach, have mucus and blood in your stool, and experience weight loss as the worms eat your food.
You doc will need a stool sample for a parasitology study-to see if you have a worm and what kind it is.  (+ info)

Can sunflower seeds cause intestinal issues?

I heard that too many salted sunflower seeds can cause intestinal issues..just so happens that i love sunflower seeds, eat them regularly because I thought that they were good for me and I am now experiencing some intestinal uncomfort...seriously.

Thanks for any serious answers.
----------

The correct answer is Yes and NO.

Ill explain.

1. Yes:

If someone consumes foods that are more likely to cause digestive issues and pain are popcorn kernels and other foods that may get stuck in diverticula, such as sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and nuts. The seeds in tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries, and raspberries, as well as poppy seeds, can also cause issues.

The technical name for the most common problem people face when consuming large amounts of the described foods is Diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a problem that can happen if you have diverticula in your intestine. Diverticula are tiny pouches or weak areas that bulge out from the lining of the wall of the intestine. They look like small thumbs poking out of the side of the bowel. When you have diverticula in your intestines, it is called diverticulosis. When these pouches become inflamed, it is called diverticulitis.

How does it occur?

It appears that the main cause of diverticular disease is too little fiber in the diet. Fiber is the part of fruits, vegetables, and grains that the body cannot digest. Fiber helps make stools soft and easy to pass. It helps prevent constipation. When you have constipation, the muscles strain to move stool that is too hard. The high pressure causes the weak spots in the colon to bulge out and become diverticula. Diverticulitis occurs when diverticula become infected or inflamed. Doctors are not certain what causes the illness. It may begin when stool or bacteria are caught in the diverticula.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of diverticulitis may include:

* alternating diarrhea and constipation
* severe cramps in your lower left side that come and go
* pain on the lower left side of the abdomen
* chills or fever
* nausea and vomiting
* rectal bleeding.

How is it diagnosed?

Your healthcare provider will review your symptoms and examine you. You may have the following tests:
* sigmoidoscopy (exam of the rectum and lower end of the large intestine with a thin, flexible, lighted tube)
* colonoscopy (exam of most of the intestine with a thin, flexible, lighted tube)
* barium enema or lower GI X-ray
* blood tests.

How is it treated?

For an attack of acute diverticulitis, you may need to be hospitalized. Depending on how bad the attack is, your treatment may include antibiotics, intravenous (IV) fluids, and nasogastric suction (a procedure that relieves pressure in the intestine).

If attacks are severe or frequent, you may need surgery. There are 2 types of surgery to correct the problem. In colon resection, the problem area of the colon is removed and the remaining ends of the colon are sewn back together. The other type of surgery is a colostomy. A colostomy attaches part of the colon to an opening in the wall of the abdomen. Bowel movements then pass through this opening instead of the rectum. They are collected in a bag outside the body.

After the colon heals, the colostomy can be reversed. This means that you will have a second surgery to rejoin the ends of the colon to each other and will no longer have a colostomy.
How long will the effects last?

Diverticulitis is usually mild and should respond well to antibiotics and changes in diet.

How can I help prevent recurrence of diverticulitis?

* Follow your healthcare provider's prescribed treatment.
* Once you are well, eat regular, nutritious meals containing high-fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain foods. Many people find fiber supplements, such as Metamucil, Citrucel, or other psyllium products, to be helpful, but in a few cases they make constipation worse.
* Drink plenty of water.
* Watch for changes in bowel movements (from constipation to diarrhea).
* Get enough rest and sleep.
* Exercise as recommended by your provider.
* Watch to see if some foods seem to cause abdominal pain. Foods that are more likely to cause pain are popcorn kernels and other foods that may get stuck in diverticula, such as sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and nuts. The seeds in tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries, and raspberries, as well as poppy seeds, are usually harmless. Keeping a food diary may help you remember what you ate a few hours before getting abdominal pain.
* Contact your healthcare provider if your symptoms come back.

So, as for the NO:

This is somewhat rare, and you would experience an extrema change in bowl movements. SO some slight discomfort is most likely a small ulcer, or internal hemorrhoid. These are very common, and are not dangerous. The good news is, everything i listed above is not fatal, and is easily overcome with a change in diet.

Good luck!  (+ info)

What is a good herbal or other holistic remedy to get rid of intestinal parasites such as pinworm?

My daughter has pinworm and I'm worried about plying her with toxic chemicals to get rid of them. Looking for a more natural solution.
----------

I just wrote this for someone who asked the same question, so hopefully it will help you as well!

If you drink hydrogen peroxide, you've got about an 80% chance of clearing out any intestinal parasites/worms in about 2 weeks. There are some more effective versions of treatment (95%) but they're a bit more of a pain to do, and what I'm suggesting should do the trick.

If you decide to take the H2O2 approach, do the following (I've had multiple successes on this with friends).
Buy 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide online at some store.
On day 1, drink a glass of water with 1 drop of H2O2 in it. Make sure you drink it as far away from meals as possible.
On day 2, do the same thing.
On day 3, raise it to 2 drops, and do the same thing.
Keep on doing this. There isn't an exact science to how long you should wait before raising the dosage, different people's bodies respond differently so you might go up by 1 each day, or up by one every 3 days, it depends on what feels comfortable to the body.
Most people end up feeling comfortable with 6-8 drops per day (10 is the upper limit, 4 is the lower limit for where you end up). Anything above 10 could potentially be dangerous, anything below 4 won't do enough.
H2O2 is a really effective substance for curing health problems, and is harmless, provided it's used in the proper concentrations (so for example, never drink peroxide which is not heavily dilluted, and try not to touch 35% with your hands because it will burn your skin).
The nice thing about H2O2 is that it's really cheap but can be used for a lot of medical applications (one bottle which will last you for life should not cost more than 20 bucks).

Also, if you do this, you may end up curing other health problems in your body, or flushing out buried toxins, so don't get too worried if radical changes happen for a few days during the treatment (I can provide literature if you wish to know more about that).  (+ info)
