What colors should my daughter with jaundice wear for pictures to look less orange/yellow?

My daughter is 7 days old and just got out of the hospital after treatment for jaundice. Her skin still looks yellow or orange, even though the doctors said she's now within normal levels. I want to have her portrait taken in time for Christmas, but I don't want her to look like a pumpkin in her first pictures!

Any suggestions of colors to wear /backgrounds to use and which to avoid? She has dark brown hair and blueish eyes.

We didn't know if she was a boy or girl, so most of her clothes are white or yellow and they don't suit her yellow skin tone.
----------

If she did wear the yellow outfit and had that jaundiced yellow color then the phot printing machines might color correct thinking that the image was incorrectly too yellow. That might be one way to get her real skin tone to appear.

You might also speak to the photographer as to whether there will be any filter he can use when photographing to minimize her temporary skin shade.  (+ info)

What to expect with cancer and jaundice?

My husband has advanced colon cancer spread to his liver. His condition is very serious. He is admitted in the hospital with jaundice and ascitis i.e fluid in his legs and abdomen. He cannot walk or sit up or even turn around without help. He is going to be tubefed from now. His bilirubin levels are 21 and is constantly on pain medication. Docs say he has at the most one week. Please tell me what to expect so that I can steel myself for the sake of my kids. how will he go? He is mostly sedated now.
----------

The most important thing now is to be with him. It is very hard to see him like this and it is heart wrenching but you need to stay strong. Have you considered Hospice? It is a wonderful program and they will help to manage his pain and they will help you to get through this emotionally. Inpatient Hospice would be your best choice. Sedation is a good thing at this point. If he already has the jaundice and ascites things are slowly shutting down. Talk to the social worker at the hospital and take things from there. The most important things right now are comfort and LOVE. I wish I could make it all better. I watched my Dad die this way. No one should have to go through this. I will say a prayer for you and your family. God Bless!  (+ info)

How to tell if this is jaundice in my eyes?

I have been having gall bladder attack and they say a major symptom is yellowing of the eyes. Now when I look in my eyes, the white part is darker except for the white that is hidden by my eye lids.
For there to be jaundice does all the white in your eyes have to be yellow or should I go by the fact that some of the white is an off color?
----------

according to my knowledge the whole sclera of the eye is discolored. but to be on the safe side go see a doctor for confirmation , because jaundice is a sign and not a symptom.  (+ info)

What effect does Jaundice have on breastfeeding/bottlefeeding?

I've heard people say that some babies with jaundice can't nurse or something, but am not clear on that... Thanks!
----------

Jaundice does not keep a baby from nursing.

There are a couple of issues where the two (breastfeeding and nursing) are related.

1. There is a condition called 'breastmilk jaundice.' There seems to be something in the milk (or in baby's reaction to the milk) that sometimes causes mild jaundice in babies in the late newborn period. Breastmilk jaundice usually starts around 7-10 days, and may last for several weeks. They used to recommend temporary weaning (1-2 days) both to test the diagnosis and to bring the levels down a bit, but this is no longer standard advice. Breastmilk jaundice is 100% benign, and even 1-2 days of bottles can cause nipple confusion and milk-supply problems, so there's no need to stop breasteeding, even for an hour. The condition will clear up.

2. "Normal" newborn jaundice is very common. It can make a baby sleepy, and a sleepy baby doesn't nurse well. Because the bilirubin (the substance that causes the jaundice) is excreted in baby's stool, a baby who isn't eating isn't pooping, which can slow the resolution of the jaundice. The baby may also get dehydrated, which would increase the sleepiness. So -- very occassionally, a baby with significant jaundice who also isn't nursing well may be given a few supplementary bottles (but no need to stop breastfeeding). If pumped breastmilk is available, that can go in the bottles. If not -- a couple of ounces of formula. This will help the bilirubin levels go down, make baby more alert, and encourage better breastfeeding.

3. VERY rarely, a baby with severe pathological jaundice might need to be in the NICU, and, depending on baby's condition, may be unable to nurse. But mom can pump and milk can be given to baby by tube or bottle.  (+ info)

Abdomen or Stomach Swelling and Jaundice what are these a symptom of?

What is Jaundice with the bottom of the stomach swelling where the intestines are a symptom of?
No its not happening to me its happening to my dad, he took to many Tylenols and he turned yellow on Sunday. His stomach has swollen too. Is this liver damage or something else or reversible liver damage? He is extremely stubborn and won't go to the hospital, no pain.
----------

It's called liver damage. Turning yellow is a very bad sign...pertaining to the liver, ti signals that it is not working properly. a person who has turned yellow may have hepatitis, an infectious disease that lead to liver failure, and even liver cancer.

If this is happening to you, you will die without immediate medical intervention.

I have hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, Anyway i can prolong my life ?

I have been Diagnosed with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy , Should i stop sports ? and change my diet ?

What is the best ways to prolong my life as i don't want to die young.
----------

It entirely depends on your just how hypertrophied your heart muscle is. If the problem is mild then it may not impede on your life at all. If your problem is moderate to severe then some people are told to avoid strenuous exercise as much as possible.

With regards to diet, there are no specific foods you need to avoid bit it is important that you do not become too overweight as this will put a strain on your heart. Avoid alcohol too.

The main risk is arrhythmia's which are the most common cause of sudden death in young adults. Are you taking any medication? If you re-edit this question with more detail I can be of more help.  (+ info)

is it safe to wake baby during the nite, she recently had jaundice and advised to wake every 3 hours to feed?

My baby has recently been treated for jaundice, she is 2 weeks old. i have been advised to wake her to feed every 3 hours but dont like to wake her, although she will normally wake herself. is it safe to leave her to wake?
----------

Yes, it is safe to wake her to feed. In fact, you NEED to wake her every 3 hours as directed by your doctor.

Wait until she has her next appointment, to see if the jaundice has improved before letting her sleep (though I understand how you'd like her to sleep so you can get more sleep yourself...)

Hang in there, mama! You'll get through this!  (+ info)

Dear worm - "we" might "give" the patient an appropriate history & physical, followed by an EKG & chest X-ray. If you need more, contact a pulmonologist or cardiologist as you attempt to administer oxygen.  (+ info)

Will the jaundice in my week old baby go away? Or is this something I should be concerned about?

When I gave birth to my daughter they tested her & found out that she had jaundice, so they put her under a light to lower her bilirubin levels. It went down some, but then shot back up to a dangerous level of 22.1. Is it helpful to let her sit in the sun for at least 10-15 minutes a day? Is this something I should be concerned about?
----------

Didn't your doctor give you instructions on how to deal with jaundice at home? Or were you not paying attention.  (+ info)

What causes yellow jaundice in babies or in pregnancy?

Is it true that oranges causes yellow jaundice in babies or in pregnancy?
----------

Jaundice is often caused when the two parents of the baby have different RH factors in the blood....

When one parent is Positive, like A+ blood type and the other parent is B-, or A- and B+, or A- and A+ (the neg and pos are the different parts)

so the baby might have B- blood like the dad, and the mom has A+.

then for some reason, when the baby is born, it comes out a bit yellow but it goes away after a few days if that happens.

The doctors and nurses know all about what needs to be done. and they would be the best people to ask at your next doctors visit.

it is a normal thing, happenes all the time. The doctors just have to take a few extra precautions, but there is nothing you can do to change anything. Just try and be healthy during pregnancy, its best for everyone involved.
