Is it possible to get rid of a keloid without medical help?

I have a keloid on my industrial piercing. I used to have a keloid on my tragus piercings but they healed. I thought the same would happen for my industrial but it didn't. Is it possible to remove these without seeking medical attention? What would I use?

I started getting keloids on mine and I just used a dab of Tea Tree Oil on mine, and they began to get smaller and now it's fine.   (+ info)

How do I remove a keloid caused by my cartilage piercing?

I recently got my ear cartilage re-pierced after it closed, and I seem to have a small bump behind it. It's called a keloid. Does anyone know how to remove it? Only people who have had experience with this please.
----------

Try getting surgery. If you pop it, you might leave some scarring tissue that might not heal properly.  (+ info)

It iches and is the most uncomfortable thing ever. How do I get rid of this earlobe keloid?

I am 23 African female. I pierced my ears myself and my left ear seemed irritated after a while. As soon as I took the earrings out, it begun to swell. I tried a scar therapy gel but it did not seem to work. I cannot afford surgery now but I really need this keloid to be gone. By the way how much does it cost to get it done?
----------

More than likely have it surgically removed by a physican. It will only grow bigger without that. Radiation treatment so that it doesn't grow back. Please don't treat yourself, don't pick at it and make it worse. Let a qualified person take care of this.  (+ info)

What treatments have you used for a keloid c-section scar?

Has anyone used cortisone shots to reduce the keloid in a c-section scar? My friend has a scar with an area that is more raised than the rest. The scar is about a year old.

Any recommendations? Is this the way to go?

Will a keloid go away if I remove the piercing?

I have a keloid around my nose from a piercing will it go away now that I've removed the piercing?
----------

Chances are it's hypertrophic scarring and not a keloid. Use hot sea salt soaks to get it to go away. If it is a keloid, removing the jewelry won't make it go away.

I suggest looking at safepiercing.org. Read a bit, you'll learn lots :)  (+ info)

What's the best way to shrink/get rid of a keloid?

I have a keloid on my cartilage, it's not THAT noticeable but it really bothers me. What can I do (besides surgically remove it) to get rid of it?
A keloid is ball of scar tissue that forms around skin injury, such as cuts, surgery areas, and piercings.
----------

There isn't anything you can do on your own to get rid of scar tissue (without a higher risk of making it worse). There are even limitations to what the doctors can do because the keloid cannot be removed completely without cutting into healthy tissue, and cutting into healthy tissue will often cause more scar tissue to develop. Short of surgery, keloids can sometimes be reduced in size by freezing them like a wart or injecting steroids - this is much cheaper than surgery, but still needs to be done by a doctor.

There are all sort of creams and lotions that claim to reduce keloids, but there is no scientific or rational basis to support the claims.  (+ info)

What's the chances of getting a keloid when you pierce your belly button?

I have my ears pierced and I didn't get a keloid.
And are they easy to treat? (As in at home. I know you can get them surgically removed but I don't think I want to get into all that trouble!)

It formed a keloid, I've seen a dermatologist and he was the scare to mature for a while before he does anything drastic like steroid shots or surgery. However I want to try and treat this on my own. So does anyone know where I can possibly buy tea tree oil and specifically what kind I should get. Is there a specific brand?
