Is Klinefelter's syndrome always screened for in amnios?

I am a 27 year old male displaying some traits of Klinefelter's. However my mother got an amnio when she was pregnant with me (since she was over 35) and says there were no irregulaties.

My question is whether or not Klinefelter's (being a major abnormality occuring relatively frequently) is always screened for during amnio's?

The date of the test was in 1981.

can someone with Klinefelter's syndrome collect on disability?

Also known as XXY syndrome.
Can they collect a goverment check every month?
----------

Generally speaking, no. SSDI and SSI are programs which have a functional standard. To be eligible for one of these programs, you must show that this condition prevents you from working to the level of Substantailly Gainful Activity. Klinefelter's Syndrome will not generally meet this standard, although each individual situation is unique. I would recommend you contact a professional disability advocate.  (+ info)

Is it possible that I have Klinefelter's syndrome?

I've been doing some research online and I think there may be a possibility that I have Klinefelter's (47,XXY). My sister however, has been diagnosed with Turner's syndrome (45,X). Is it possible for a brother and sister to both have these disorders?
----------

yes it is possible. although the conditions are not linked, as in if you have 1 condition in the family it's not more likely you'll have another with the same or similar, well as far a turner syndrome anyway.
Having a daughter with turners put you no more at risk of having another or another with a chromasome problem, as Turners is sporadic, it just happens, no reason, no cause, nothing either parent done or did not do. I know a lot about turner syndrome but very little about kleinfelters.
what makes you think you may have kleinfelters??  (+ info)

What kind of doctor should you go if I want to ask about Klinefelter's syndrome?

Endocrinologist? Geneticist?
----------

Yes, a medical geneticist or endocrinologist would know most about this disorder.

There's a search engine here to find a doctor who specializes in this, but I don't know if any good:

How can I know if I suffer from klinefelter's syndrome and what are the negatives about it? (Look on details)

Can I still have kids even if I suffer from that?
Is is hereditary?
----------

Klinefelter's is a rare condition. (1 in about 1,000 births) (also called XXY syndrome) Before you believe you have this condition see your doctor for a definite diagnosis. Klinefelter's syndrome is a condition that occurs in men who have an extra X chromosome in most of their cells. The fact that you can pose the question and in a very literate manner suggests that if you have the condition is it a very mild form of it. In more severe cases mental retardation is evident. The syndrome can affect different stages of physical, language and social development. The most common symptom is infertility. Because they often don't make as much of the male hormone testosterone as other boys, teenagers with Klinefelter's syndrome may have less facial and body hair and may be less muscular than other boys. Their genitals may be noticeably smaller than what is considered normal. These symptoms may be corrected to some extent using testosterone therapy. They may have trouble using language to express themselves. They may be shy and have trouble fitting in.
IF you have this condition:
IT IS IMPORTANT TO START TREATMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. With proper treatment, most boys grow up to have normal sex lives, successful careers and normal social relationships. Check with your doctor first if you are still really concerned you may have this condition. I wish you the best of luck.

Is there a chance with that Syndrome he can still have kids? Or our chances shot out? I have read up on it, but I want to here real life stories.
----------

Klinefelter syndrome is associated with infertility but one of its type called Mosaicism which is observed in 10 % can be fertile.Hence it depends on what is the type of klinefelter syndrome your hubby has.If he got klinefelter syndrome mosaicism then you might have more chances of having a kid.Do not loose hope though as there are reports of births from a nonmosaic as well. The reported cases however uses the process of Intracytoplasmic sperm injection, in which a spermatozoon is injected into an ovum in vitro. The reported cases can de found on this site:
