chick peas and Lathyrism?

Does anyone know how much and how long you can consume chick peas before Lathyrism is a concern???
----------

Chick peas like garbanzo beans? Chick peas are not the same as the peas which cause lathyrism.
The peas also known as chick peas that cause lathyrism are Lathyrus Sativa, the chick peas that we eat in hummus, etc are Cicer Arietinum. Its two different peas from different families, but they are sometimes known by the same name so its confusing.

If you are eating the normal hummus kind you do not have to worry at all they do not even contain the ingredient that causes lathyrism.

If you're eating Lathyrus Sativa (highly unlikely in Western countries?) it would need to be a large part of your diet and you'd need to eat it at least partially raw. Once those peas are cooked for a while or soaked overnight and rinsed most of the toxins are gone.  (+ info)
