How long do you leave a TENS unit on for low back pain and hip pain? Is there a limit to how long to keep on?

I have been having severe low back pain both sides, radiating into buttocks and left hip for 2 months. I just started using a TENS unit today with limited instruction. How long can I leave it on?
----------

Mine cuts off after ten minutes, so that is all I do, ten minutes every hour.  (+ info)

What should I do about my severe low back pain?

I have had severe low back pain for a week now. When I wake up in the morning I struggle to get up out of bed. It hurts when I walk and even when I sit down. If I drop something on the floor I cannot pick it up. I have tried Motrin, aspirin, Alleve, and Tylenol, but nothing works. I also have cramps that resemble menstrual cramps. The back pain is literally immobilizing me. Any suggestions?

It's important to determine the cause of your back pain.
This can really only be determined by taking a thorough history and doing a good physical exam.

You have been given advice to take more pain pills, muscle relaxers, etc.
That's great unless you have a herniated disc......

point is, as this has been ongoing for 1 week, and has failed pretty agressive Over-the-counter meds, then I think it might be time to get it checked out especially if you are having any pains radiating down your legs  (+ info)

Is it common to have abdominal pain when you have a low back disc rupture?

Can low back disc pains cause abdominal pain? Or would it be 2 different things going on?
----------

Very possible. But abdominal pain can also radiate to the back (as is the case with a number of abdominal disease processes, I would recommend consulting your GP (or Orthopedic specialts if you are already under his care for the disk problem)

It is common for Sacral-Lumbar muscle pain to slowly involve the abdominal complex of muscles if allowed to weaken with the back. If you have a prolapsed disk, similar pain can ensue. And of course you may not be using core muscles as much due to the pain you have. They slacken and cause more muscular pain.

Once you have ruled out abdominal pathology for your pain, discuss with your physician exercises that can increase your core strength. This might be the best way to bring everything back into line and attenuate you discomfort.  (+ info)

What are some good excercises to do at the gym that will help ease my low back pain?

I have an almost constant low back pain that I think have incurred from doing some ab workouts the wrong way. I am a pretty active young male who goes to the gym often. Is there a few good stretches that I can do to warm up before lifting weights that will help me get rid of this pain?
----------

You should take a yoga class, it did wonders for my back. I have no pain at all now.  (+ info)

Is it normal to have too much low back pain at 29 weeks pregnant?

I'm 29 wks and have been having low back pain lately..

I had contractions since I was 25 wks pregnant, and I'm now 29 and although the contractions ceased considerably, I am not having low back pain...

Is this normal at this point? It doesn't hurt to walk, but I feel it all the time and it's not strong, but it's there.. I also feel it radiating to my buttocks.

Thanks in advance.

Back pain or discomfort is common during pregnancy and should be expected to some degree by most women. Back pain may be experienced during any point of your pregnancy; however, it most commonly occurs later in the pregnancy as the weight of the baby increases. Back pain can disrupt your daily routine or interfere with a good night of sleep.

You are not alone if you are experiencing back pain during your pregnancy. The prevalence varies with reports, showing between 50 to 70 percent of all pregnant women having back pain.
Hope this info helps.....

How do I seek help in a back pain problem on a low budget?

I have had bad pain in the areas of T4, T6, T10 in the middle of my back for 3 to 4 days now. First I thought it was because I'm big chested and that is why but then I got sick was coughing alot, then I changed cars and the seats are different so I lean back more thinking that is what is making it hurt, I also have 3 boys and was playing with on the floor and thought maybe I hurt it then. I am on a low budget and going to a back dr. is not something I can afford.
----------

I have to give a personal touch to my answer below. In the information you gave, I can see that you have a few stresses that could be aiding your back pain. The big one would be, being on a budget ( no one likes to be on a budget) lol....The other probably more self imposed stress would be having three boys. You sound like a good mom, and my being one to, I know the pressure we place on ourselves to be the best mom we can be. I hope my answer helps.

What you are probably suffering from is TMS (tension myositis syndrome). Myo means muscle. Your back muscle is all tensed up. Because of the tension there is not enough blood flow that brings the oxygen it needs to that area, and that is, whats causing the pain. I bet when you take a hot shower, it feels a little better,But not for long, thats because heat gets the blood flow moving. I understand your pain, as I have suffered the same symptoms, through out my life. I even thought for a long time that I had a pinched nerve, Until recently learning that there is no such thing. Believe that there is nothing structually wrong with you. Stresses, big and small are the culprits here. Today write down all the things that are bothering you, go back as far as you can, become aware of any guilt and resentments you have, and believe me we all have them.Let them go, there holding you back. Believe you have the power to deal with any situations you may be faced with, today and everyday thereafter.

Does chiropractic work for low back pain?

I am thinking of seeing a chiropractor for my low back pain anyone have any stories?
----------

I used to have really severe back pain but couldn't figure out the reason why... There can be a lot of possible causes so it's better to have an MRI or CTScan just to be sure... I wouldn't rely on internet opinions to treat this problem... I took my free scan at http://tinyurl.com/lcarcv  (+ info)

I am getting bad low back pain what should I do?

I have very bad low back pain that lasts a day or two. It is on my right side and shoots down my right leg. I feel the pain in my right side as well. I don't want to just take pain meds so I have not went to the dr. I thought about a chiropractor but still unsure. It is very painful and prevents me from holding my 13 month old....HELP. Should I just suck it up and go to my Dr?
----------

I use The Back Pro for all my back and neck pain. I was introduced to it a couple of months ago and it really fixes any problems that come up, like waking up with pain in my hip, or lower back pain and muscle pain. I've been sleeping better and the pain in my thigh and leg when away very quickly. I use it every day, and I don't have to take pain killers, which is something I really hate to do.

You can check it out at http://www.backcarepro.com/

Hope you get some relief soon.
