Take aloe vera juice every single day. Mix it in with something else if you have to, but aloe vera juice helps to eliminate heavy metals from the body. At this point in your case the damage has already been done, but in case there is an residual mercury in your system, this should help to get rid of it. Good luck!  (+ info)

Mercury Poisoning?

I eat a lot of fish weekly. I usually eat tuna, salmon, and sushi most days of the week. What is my risk of getting mercury poisoning? Should I lay off fish and start consuming poultry instead?
----------

There is some risk of mercury. But I wouldn't cut out the fish entirely. Rather reduce your fish intake to 2 days per week. The fish oil is good for you.  (+ info)

Mercury poisoning?

if i eat 2 cans of tuna a day will i eventually get mercury poisoning? i'm a 20 yr old 6 ft male 200lbs?
----------

I found an interesting website that actually has a calculator on your body weight to intake, etc. http://www.gotmercury.org/

Something that I'd consider is eating the canned salmon. Basically, how tuna exposure works is that the preditory fish carry more, because a small fish will get an unnoticable amount, the slightly bigger fish eats a few of those and so on up the food chain, until a fish like the Tuna is eating hundreds of pounds of fish containing a lot of mercury. Or so I've read.

Canned salmon, however, contains untraceable amounts. So it's a little more expensive, but a lot better of a call in the long run if you can do it.  (+ info)

MERCURY POISONING!?!?

Alright, so I saw this tiny silver ball on the floor and I tried to pick it up to throw it away but i couldn't seem to grasp it, then I saw some broken glass and I picked it all up. I was still curious about the silver thing so i tried to pick it up again and it spread into more silver balls and then I flicked it and it spread into a bunch of tiny silver balls and then I saw the broken thermometer and I was like HOLY CRAP!! that's the mercury from those old fashioned thermometers. Then I realized that there were tiny silver balls all over the floor where I had been walking. So I basically walked on mercury and touched it with my fingers..is this really bad??? What should I do?
----------

Mercury is a very deadly poison and next to Fluoride, one of the most poisonous substances in our environment. It doesn't sound like you ate any, but just touched it. You definitely did get some poison in your body from it, but most likely not enough to be too damaged by it.

The amount of mercury you get from silver fillings is very damaging to the body and that you need to be very concerned about. Neon, all fluorescent tubes (including the new compact fluorescents) are loaded with mercury. Since mercury is a heavy metal, it ends up in your brain tissue and destroys the tissue, causing many illnesses.

What are the chances of getting mercury poisoning from eating tuna fish?

I've heard you should only have tuna once or twice a week because you can get mercury poisoning from it.

If this is true why isn't it more talked about? Why isn't there a warning label on the can?

How much tuna can I eat safely?
----------

Tuna is a big fish so it contains more ppm of mercury than smaller fish. Once or twice a week should be OK.

Shark is sold in fish shops as flake and that contains the highest ppm of mercury of any fish and should be avoided.

Sword fish, king mackerel and tilefish are other fish that should be avoided.  (+ info)

How much tuna would one have to eat to get mercury poisoning?

My mom says if I eat too much tuna I'll get mercury poisoning. Is this true, or a myth? I imagine you'd have to eat 100's of pounds of the stuff before you got sick.
----------

Well first off, tuna is a very healthy food. For you to get mercury poisoning you would have to eat more then your body weight in one sitting. You will get sick from the amount of food before you get from the mercury. Its just a wives tale your mom is probably just exaggerating. I say keep up with the sea food, its healthier then most other meats and with the omega-3 fatty acids they are super good for your health and heart. Hope this helped :)  (+ info)

How much fish do you really need to eat to get mercury poisoning?

i am on a high protein diet and i eat 4 cans of tuna per day, just wanna know what the chances are of getting mercury poisoning. thanks.
----------

You would have to eat TONS of tuna to get mercury poisoning.

The trouble is, mercury is cumulative. it does NOT pass through your body, so each can of tuna you eat adds just a little more.

To help, change your diet from mostly tuna to mostly chicken. Same protein, less mercury.  (+ info)

Is the limited amount of mercury in a thermometer enough to cause mercury poisoning?

My cat knocked over my thermometer which I believe is mercury filled while I was at work. The thermometer broke and the mercury is gone. Maybe my cat licked it up. Is the limited amount of mercury in a thermometer enough to cause mercury poisoning (in me or my cat) if breathed in or ingested?
----------

"The typical "fever thermometer" contains between 0.5 to 3 g (.3 to 1.7 dr) of elemental mercury.[1] Swallowing this amount of mercury would, it is said, pose little danger but the inhaling of the vapour could lead to health problems."
Make sure that the room the thermometer broke in is well ventilated and wear gloves to clean up the spill and wash your hands afterwards. Get the cat checked out by a vet if you are still concerned.  (+ info)

where can i get a test for mercury poisoning in the UK?

I have a strong suspicion that my father may be suffering the effects of Mercury poisoning and hence would like to find where he can be tested either at home or in a private facility in the UK.
----------

Your GP can arrange it provided he agrees there is an indication for the test.  (+ info)

Does eating sushi more than once a week increase the chance of mercury poisoning?

I love to eat sushi, but I have heard horror stories of people that have eaten fish regularly and have suffered mercury poisoning because of it.
----------

It could. I have a patient who used to eat canned tuna almost everyday until he was diagnosed with mercury poisoning! One of the higher concentrations of mercury is found in tuna.
Explore other flavors and enjoy the fish in moderation. Unless you eat 20 or 30 pieces everytime you are enjoying your sushi, you should be fine.  (+ info)
