Is mycobacterium avium infection fatal?

Any infection is fatal if it is not diagnosed properly or left untreated for long. Definitely immune response plays a major role to combat infections. MAI belongs to the family of M. tuberculosis and radiological picture is almost the same. However disease needs to be diagnosed before it becomes non-treatable  (+ info)

Does anyone know of natural antibiotics and other help for mycobacterium avium?

I have been diagnosed with mycobacterium avium...and would like to support my body to fight it without resorting to a year of antibiotic cocktails, the treatment recommendation of allopathic medicine. Are there natural antibiotics to fight hard shelled bacteria and ways to boost my immune system? Thanks.

What does "DNA Probe positive for MYCOBACTERIUM AVIUM COMPLEXE mean ?

I recieved a copy of the lab results from my surgeon today and it said "DNA probe positve for M.Avium complexe, mycobacterium Avium complexe confirmed by colonial morphology, ****Potentially ** Pathogenic**** Clinical Correlation Advised " this was from a Bronchial wash of my right lung. Please explain this to me.
----------

It means that your lab test was positive for the presence of the M.Avium bacterium. Clinical Correlation Advised means that your doctor will follow up and do whatever further testing is indicated to confirm or dismiss the pathology report.  (+ info)

Might have atypical mycobacterium infection?

After a cat scan, this has been noted along w/8-mm nodule and some smaller ones in my lungs. Will be having a tissue sample soon. What does this mean, besides cancer?
I just thought if I had nodules, it could be cancer. Also the infection I thought went w/cancer.
----------

Treatment of the infection depends upon the specific type of infection. As many as four to six drugs may be used to treat some infections. Treatment may last 6 months to 2 years, possibly longer in those with weakened immune systems.

Certain lymph node infections and skin lesions can be surgically removed.

Where did you get the idea of cancer?

EDIT:

Tamara, there are literature citations that show that this is seen in women that are not linked to cancer or other immunocompromised conditions ... the nodular patterns are most likely due to the atypical mycobacteria ... which there are several species ... all have different distinct radiological patterns ... that said ... there are always a chance for cancer or other problems ... but I would have not necessarily linked just because of the nodes .... I wish you the best :)  (+ info)

What is a Mycobacterium infection?

I'm reading a book on reptiles that I recently bought after I rescued my two turtles. They have become my babies and I'm trying to learn all that I can. The books talks about "mycobacterium is uncommon, but can be seen in captive reptiles". I would like to know what exactly it is because the book doesn't really explain, like I'm supposed to know! It just talks about how it can affect multiple organ systems.

Has anyone ever heard of Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (MAP)?

I'm asking because it may be possible that this disease is an infection in people with Crohn’s Disease. There has been studies in England about this disease and how the United States has got this disease confused with an auto immune disorder when it's actually a bacteria disease. Supposibly people in England take antibioitcs called MyocondaR which have put them in remission at a higher rate than any of the medications we have in the U.S. Has anyone with Crohn's or Colitis heard about this yet? It's actually wonderful news to hear that something might help us get our life back to normal.
I think the antibody medication will be available sometime this year (2008) in the U.S. I support this claim and i believe it may be the answer to cure us all.

Now i understand some crohn's disease may be genetic, but it's not so much the disease but the immune disorder that is iregular. But even with an abnormal immune system something still has to trigger it to happen. And that's where MAP fits in. I believe milk companies in the U.S. boil their milk at 75 'F for 15 seconds before putting them in the market. However Map can survive the 15 seconds and still make it's way in a gallon or carton of milk.

Now their may be some studies that show MAP doesn't trigger crohn's disease and i simply don't believe that. Perhaps companies such as dairy gold may be involved with that as to not lose their customers or profits.

I recommend anyone who wants to drink milk boil their milk first for a minute or two. I'm tired of living this way as some of you may be, it's time to make a change

Hello! My son has Crohn's and I have read about MAP. We know of someone who is having their son who was diag. with Crohn's treated for MAP. They were able to culture the bacteria in his blood. He is currently on antibiotics and taking Culturelle, homemade yogurt, UDO oil, and eating a "modified SCD". He is thin, but running ALOT and seems to be doing well.
I know CSUCalpoly@San Luis Obispo is studying MAP.
It is very new for the US--who knows when it will actually be applied to people with IBD?  (+ info)

Does anyone have info or sites about a lung infection called micobacterium avium intracellular?

Yes, it's an uncommon infection which affects people who have depressed immune systems. It is in the same family as TB but not as catchy to normal people. There are lots of ways to treat it. It is spelled with a "y", mycobacterium. Good luck.  (+ info)

How virulant is Mycobacterium avium?

It is normal flora and is not very virulent at all in normal people, however in aids patinets it is a very common infection and can be their cause of death, through symptoms similar to mycobacterium tuberculosis. Good question.  (+ info)

Infection.........................?

I started getting fingered few days back and now getting a burning/hurting sensation in the outer vagina where it appears
red. I tried warm saltwater washes and gets some relief from this, but after few hours the burning returns again. I tend to get yeast infections around my period times always (treated with Candid V), but this one feels different with burning rather than itching. Does this show signs of cut or infection? Can I try the Candid V cream for this or are there any home remedies for it to heal? Please advice.

Go to a podatrist and have him/her take care of it. It sounds pretty nasty right now to deal with it yourself.  (+ info)
