Double Vision: Astigmatism or Superior Oblique Myokymia?

Hi, I am a 16 year old male and have been suffering from double vision/ghosting vision for about a year now. I wear contacts and glasses. I have been to a doctor and he told me that there was nothing wrong with my eye, but I should get an MRI. So I took the MRI test and it showed no problems. I asked if maybe it was an astigmatism and he said I didn't have one. However, my previous doctor who fitted my contacts and glasses said I have a very slight astigmatism and that a prescription for astigmatism won't help my double vision.

Lately I have been doing research on my problem on the internet, and I have concluded that it can either be from an irregular astigmatism or superior oblique myokymia. I really am not sure. My doctor who didn't see the astigmatism said that my eyes shake a little more than normal, and thats a sign of superior oblique myokymia and he said I should see a Neurologist for it.

Does anyone have experience on this subject? I really hope it is an astigmatism; regular or irregular. Is there anything I can do to test if it may be an astigmatism? Do all doctors have a "corneal topographer" that allows them to see an irregular astigmatism? And is there a special doctor I must go to to see if I have SOM?

Thank you :)

There are many causes of double vision. Is the double vision only seen when you use both your eyes, or is it only in one eye in particular? For astigmatism, the best type of doctor to see is a corneal specialist. To rule out SOM, see a neuro-ophthalmologist. The doctor I work for is a retina specialist, and if we see anything like this, we immediately send them to the above stated sub-sub specialists.  (+ info)

How much caffeine is too much?

Lately I have been having myokymia (jerky muscle movements or twitchs) and apparently it can be due to caffeine. I usually have 1 cup of coffee a day and two cups of tea.

That amount should not be the problem. If your having 6 or more a day.  (+ info)

Myokymia + Headache?

Corner of my right eye-lid is twitching (flickering) for last almost one week with some headache.

I know this is due to some stress and some change in the weather.

Do we have a home remedy in addition to getting more sleep?

Check out this web site. It may answer more than what I have room for here.

Is there anyone out there that had been told they have superior oblique myokymia. (Double vision)?

not me ,b ut what you have is it is you is a problem with one of the muscles that moves your eye or the nerve that controls it. it is the superior oblique muscle which moves your eye out and up. when you look down and in one of the eyes moves with out a problem but the other can't mimic it and since both eyes are not focused on the same spot you get double vision. the classic mansifestation of this is when you walk down stairs your get double vision. see an opthamologist my friend  (+ info)

My boyfriend has had "pain in his left eye" and he has been to doctors and no one knows what is causing it?

A. Some say it Migraines
B, Optic Neuritis
C. Myokymia
D. Fibromyila
E. Indocyclitis
F. MS
G. Sleep Apnea
H.Pinch nerve

What is with the left eye pain? Why is that common and what is the most common dx? He has been over the years involve with Marital Art (Fighter) and traveling on airplanes, living in a rural community near horses.
----------

Find a local NeuroOphthalmologist (they're rare) pain can be caused from intraocular pressure, sinuses, nerve damage, neurological issues...etc. Answer these questions when you visit the doctor: Is the pain sharp and shooting? Does it happen throughout the day multiple times or continuously? Do you have any visual disturbances like auras, flashes of light, floaters (dark spots in vision that float)? Report any severe head trauma that has occurred. Make a record of when pain occurs and how long it lasts over a week. Has your boyfriend had an MRI recently, if so be sure to bring it and/or a CT scan with you.  (+ info)

I need help with Medical terms thanks?

Can any one tell me what inferior gluteal neuropathy and gluteus maximus myokymia are thanks for all answers !!
Dr Kimura you put everything togther for me thx a bunch I couldnt understand it before and know I do so thank you so much!!!!
----------

Neuropathy basically means something not right with the nerve. So, there's something wrong with the Inferior Gluteal nerve. And it's main function is to deliver function to the Gluteus Maximus muscle (butt muscle).

Myokymia is an involuntary muscle movement.

So, piecing it all together, the gluteus maximus (butt muscle) is twitching and moving by itself because the inferior gluteal nerve isn't working right, something is causing the nerve to keep sending signals to the muscle to contract.  (+ info)
