Can tumors be felt underneath the skin?

Like can you feel tumors underneath the skin? Is that possible?
Lumps?
Please help thanks!
----------

Depends on the type and location.

Bone tumors, Lymphoma, melanoma, breast cancer, testicular cancer and some others can all be felt in many circumstances.

Cancers of the lungs, liver, stomach, pancreas, and colon are examples of tumors that ussualy can not be felt. Unless they were massive.  (+ info)

How do you tell the difference between tumors?

Is there anyway to tell the difference between a benign tumor and a malignant tumor? If so what is it?
----------

yes there is, you can tell the difference by getting a sample of the tumours cells. The most common way is to biopsy the tumour, i,e cutting a small piece away, this can be done also by placing a hollow needle into the tumour. The cells are then analyzed under the microscope and with various other tests. Malignant tumours will usually appear different to benign tumours, one of these differences is that they will look less like the parent cell, i.e a malignant lung tumours cells, wont look very much like lung, whereas benign tumours cells do not differ as much from the parent cell line. Another way to tell, which is less scientific is that if there are multiple tumours and the tumour has spread. In this case it is likely to be a malignant tumour, as they, by definition, metastasize and spread to other tissues and organs  (+ info)

how long after radiation, can you tell if radiation has shrunk lung tumors?

My 71 year old father had 4 rounds of chemo for stage 4 squamous cell lung cancer. Tumors did not shrink, but did not grow. He is on his 5th and last week of radiation. How long will it be before doctors are able to do test to see what radiation has done? Thanks. I appreciate any information.
----------

You father can phone the doctor and ask when the test are scheduled. I hope he will let you go to a doctor visit with him and give you a chance to ask your questions. I'm sure you have dozens of them and the doctors don't mind answering families questions.  (+ info)

How does an MRI tell the difference between tumors and other masses?

My husband had another MRI. Now they said he has a mass in his colon. They also called it a tumor. How can they tell this with the MRI? The mass could be something else. According to what I have read, lung cancer does not go to the colon.
----------

The word "tumor" really just means mass. That does not imply that it is "cancer", although most people associate tumor with cancer, which is what I think you are worried about. Although depending on the way it appears on the imaging, a tumor may look more cancerous than, say an infection or a benign growth does. A diagnosis depends on the rest of the clinical information (e.g. if there are other masses or metastatic looking lesions else where in the body) or a biopsy of this mass.

Hope this helps.  (+ info)

Is there any known homeopathic treatment for spinal tumors? Even to just reduce the size of one?

The tumor resides between the C1 and C2 vertibrae, in the center of the spinal cord. It is extremely slow growing and not causing any physical issues yet.
----------

If your tumor is benign, you should go to your doctor immediately to have it removed or else (because its growing in an awkward place) it will be too late to remove it when it grows larger (may damage the adjacent nerves).........
Anyways here are some other obtions for you + Homeopathic remedies & websites that you can scroll through to find out more...
p:s Had it been god forbid Malignant, you would have known what to do by now!!

what is a natural remedy to get rid of frybro tumors?

frybro tumors are common in women and sometimes cause internal discomfort or pain.
----------

That's fibroid tumors. They are benign tumor of the smooth muscle that makes up the uterine wall. There is no natural way to get rid of them...once they are there...they are there. They can cause pain and bleeding but most women with them are unaware. In severe cases surgery may be the only treatment. The type of surgery depends on whether you are still in your reproductive years, and would like to get pregnant.
A newer, less invasive technique is embolization, where they basically cut off the blood supply to the fibroid so it whithers away.  (+ info)

Friend has lung tumors and is having an unrelated surgery. Is it safe to be under anesthesia?

My friend is having weightloss surgery... not sure which one but I think the bypass one. Anyway, she has recurring lung tumors which she had surgery for a few years ago but are back.

The problem is she hasn't told the doc about the tumors for fear they won't do the weight surgery (she's very overweight). Is she in danger??

Is someone who has reoccurring multiple tumors more or less living on borrowed time?

I dont know they removed 2-3 tumors from Jim Stynes head but then there were 5 more some 6 mths later, they just keep reappearing,

why are they not getting it all? or?
Are you sure, what if chemo all over managed to kill the cancer, or it wont ever be killed it will simply reappear constantly/ Until it cant be treated anymore
----------

Stynes has metastatic melanoma, meaning it has spread to other parts of his body and surgery is now considered palliative, not curative. When a tumor metastasizes it spreads cells throughout the blood stream and lymph system. These cells lodge in other parts of the body and new tumors grow. Chemotherapy drugs can attack fast growing tumor cells but cannot rid the body of cancer. The aim is to fight the cancer with surgery and drugs, but there is no cure at this late stage.  (+ info)

How to tell my mom who has lung cancer that they also found tumors in her brain?

My mom went on vacation to a foreign country were she became very ill. They found brain tumors and told us the family and kept it from her. She was in a really delicate state...hardly coherent. So she has no clue. Four months later she was able to return to Texas and needs to go to the doctor. We were told by MD Anderson that she will have to find out. They don't hold anything back from the patient. Thats what i was afraid of. How do we break that to her? Please help!!!
----------

She deserves to know the truth as soon as possible. Why this information has been withheld from her is wrong. An adult of sound mind has a right to know the truth about their medical condition. Either the news can come from those she loves or from her doctors, it doesn't matter as long as she as told sooner rather than later. It is almost impossible to keep this type of information from a patient anyway . . you wouldn't want a neighbor to slip up and mention it . . than she might lose all trust in her family for 'hiding' this from her. Tell her.

How do you tell her . . you sit down and start the hardest conversation you have ever had . . and you do it out of love and respect for her.  (+ info)

What are the chances of surviving tumors?

My mother recently discovered a tumor and is going to have surgery tomorrow.I an scared for her whellbeing. So can anyone please tell me what are the chances for her to survive thank you in advance.
----------

You are not clear whether this is a benign or a malignant tumor . . so there is no way to answer your question about 'surviving tumors'. So in general . . if your mother has one small tumor the first thing a doctor would do is biopsy the tissue. Only from the biopsy can a doctor know if the tumor is malignant or benign. A malignant tumor is cancer. A benign tumor is not cancer.

If the tumor is malignant the doctor than must determine what type of cancer, the grade, and the stage of the disease. Cancer is a progressive disease which means it begins as a single microscopic cell that has lost the ability to stop growing. Cancer will grow indefinitely unless treated. You mentioned only one tumor . . . usually one small tumor means that it is a stage 1 or early cancer. If there are more than one tumor and they have grown large . . than this is considered a later stage disease. The disease usually has four stages with the first stage meaning there is very little cancer present . . the fourth stage means the cancer has progressed, spred, and has the ability to metastasize (send more cancer cells into the blood stream around the body).

So . . what you are asking is not yet possible to answer without knowing if the tumor is benign, malignant, its location, and whether it has been identified as cancer and the type of cancer.

The best thing you can do is remain strong, supportive and hopeful that all will turn out okay for your Mom.  (+ info)
