its a genetically inherited disease so it does not have any incubation period. There is no treatment, and you can't avoid it. You can transmit it either - you inherit it.  (+ info)

Symptoms and Signs

Type 1: With type 1, most patients are asymptomatic and identified during routine examination, examination for cosmetic complaints, or when evaluating a positive family history. Some present with neurologic symptoms or bony abnormalities. In > 90%, characteristic skin lesions are apparent at birth or develop during infancy. Lesions are medium-brown (café-au-lait), freckle-like macules, distributed most commonly over the trunk, pelvis, and flexor creases of elbows and knees. During late childhood, flesh-colored cutaneous tumors of various sizes and shapes appear, ranging in number from several to thousands. Rarely, plexiform neuromas (subcutaneous nodules or amorphous overgrowth of underlying bone or Schwann cells) develop, producing an irregularly thickened, distorted structure with grotesque deformities.

Neurologic symptoms are varied but relate to location and number of neurofibromas. Is it common for a person with Neurofibromatosis type 1 to have trouble tolerating heat or to be heat sensitiv

Please if there is a doctor out there that can answer this we would be truly grateful, since we no longer have any medical coverage. I have NF1 and simply cannot tolerate the heat. Also the heat seems to cause my tumors to itch. Is this normal? ANY of it?
I have NF, and I sometimes am sensitive to cold and hot, mostly cold. My leg feels tingly when going into the pool if the temperature is 84 or bellow.  (+ info)

I was born Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and I have pain, numbness and pins and needles with it. Does anyone out there have the same illness as me? If so, how are progressing and what are you doing about treatment?
I have it. I to have the pins and needle feelings and sometimes the numbness, feeling which led to me getting another one of those fun MRI's which they found tumor pressing against my spine around my neck. I had to have surgery.

As for treatment, I'm taking nothing expect everyone in a while a pain pill as needed.  (+ info)

hi there i have nf as well right now its fairly mild but my dad and grandma and aunt had a pretty sever case you could not tell my dad had it till after he turned 30 ive her dthat hormomes cna offset the disorder and it scares me becuas ei wan to have children eventually but i dont wnat to be cast out like my dad after all my hard work at college( noone public will higher my father becuase of how he looks)
i had alot of touble in elementry school being made fun of it was really hard on me i nevber used to wear bikinis because that is where most of the spots were i had a few removed and now its not so bad but i still feel very uncomfortable sometimes ad i can feel myself eseteem. i just try to keep my head up i know im a good person and some people are to arrogant to look below exteriors most people cant tell i have anything but some ppl who i tell have said i knew there was soething worng with you look at you! and it hurts alot . try not to let it get to you we are beutifull people too:d you can email me if you want i do not know many people with nf and would like to chat just ad my user name as an emil [email protected]  (+ info)
