Are there any natural cures neurofibromatosis?

I have Type 1 of neurofibromatosis and surgery is pricey are the any Natural Cures for it
----------

Sorry there are no cures and even with surgery, you are not cured. The tumors can still grow back. You only have surgery to remove turmor, if doctors feel they need to be removed, otherwise they really don;t like removing them. I've had two surgery's.

I have nf type 1, but sadly I'm not on disability and I'm having a really hard time finding a job in this econemy, not to mention the fact Michigan has no jobs at the moment, at least nothing that doesn;t require some medical school.  (+ info)

Anyone have experience with lumps on the head, not NF 1 or 2 and not dermoids?

My son has a lump on the back of his head and on his forearm. The doctors have ruled out neurofibromatosis and dermoids, and the CAT, XRAY, and ultrasound have come back inconclusive. They don't think that it is cancerous, Any ideas???

How many of you have heard of Neurofibromatosis?

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a neurological disorder that although fairly common, is hardly heard of. What it does is cause tumors to grow along the nerves, randomly, in the body or on the skin. It can also cause a lot of other things, ranging from scoliosis and learning disabilities to cancer. It is a genetic disorder, progressive, and has no cure.

As a mom of two kids with NF, I have been working towards bringing awareness to my community. I am just curious as to how many people reading this might actually have heard of NF, or possibly either have NF or know someone who does.

did you know your kids have a 50/50 chance of passing it on.. to their kids..

I have Neurofibromatosis dose any one have it?

I have Neurofibromatosis dose any one have it?
hi i am 18 and i have Neurofibromatosis. i think i have tipe 1 becuse i dont have it bad all i have is a lernig deasability, like 20 berth marks, really really smal bumps in random playses an i have had 2 tumers removd. i was wonderin if any one has Neurofibromatosis? and if so how bad or any good madicashon that helps?
----------

I have it, and I have type one. I have had a few tumors removed. One on my right arm, when I was like 16 or 17. And then this passed Nov. I had a few removed from my spinal cord, two were crushing against it and if they weren't removed and might have woken up one day and not able to move.

I have a large mass on my right leg, that is too big too remove and it pretty painful, pain medication helps a little. I can't stand for long periods of time and sometimes one of my legs will give out, but the good thing is I haven't fallen yet. I have a good amount of those birthmark things, mostly on my legs.

So I wouldn't say I have a mild case, my doc is pretty concerned about my leg. And want to get me on test medication once it become available.

I learned I had NF type one when I was 15, I'll be 24 in a couple of weeks. I was probably fine the first couple of years after finding out and after that, it kind of all went down hill from there. I can't even enjoy swimming in our swimming pool the way I used to.
Hope that your NF, doesn't get any worse.  (+ info)

Neurofibromatosis lumps and cancerous Lumps how do you tell the difference?

I have Neurofibromatosis and have some N.f lumps in various places im just wondering if anyone who suffers from this Neurofibromatosis can advise me on how to tell the difference in touch or the way they look to determin if they are indeed cancerous or N.f
----------

The incidence of vonRecklinghausen's disease becoming neurofibrosarcomas is very rare. In reviewing the literature for an article I wrote, I found the possibility of malignant transformation far down on the possible serious side effects. A tumor suddenly growing could be biopsied.  (+ info)

Is there anyone else out there with Neurofibromatosis?

If so, have you ever tried holistic medicine or alternative medicine? Do you think accupuncture or accupressure will eliminate the bumps associated with Neurofibromatosis?
----------

I have NF1, and have a number of neurofibromas at various places of my body. I have had several cut out over the years but as you know, new ones will form from time to time. Since the condition is genetic, I do not think there is an alternative medicine that can help... but I have researched high and low. I share your stress over wishing there was a way to make the bumps go away. Depending on if the bump is more on top of the skin or below, some have found success with laser treatment.. but regardless of how the tumor is removed there is usually a scar. For me, every few years will have the doctor remove the largest or most visible ones. I pray that you can still find peace in that you are of great value and worth as a person despite the imperfections. I wish you the very best.  (+ info)

What is the difference between neurofibromatosis and proteus syndrome?

Are they the same thing?
----------

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that can cause tumors to form anywhere on the nervous system at any time, while Proteus Syndrome is a condition which causes abnormal growth of the skin and bones- having nothing to do with the nervous system (as far as I know.) PS may cause tumors also, but most of them are benign.  (+ info)

What is the difference between neurofibromatosis1 and neurofibromatosis 2?

What causes NF1 and NF2? Are they both caused by genetic disorders and if so, why are there two different names?
----------

I couldn't believe I saw this on here. My daughter was just diagnosed with this. We have to go back yet for a check up on it. There is also a 3rd one to it. Only they have an actual name for it. I found it on www.neurofibromatosis.com ......I don't know much yet myself but I hope this site may help.  (+ info)

How do I calculate 1/3 cup cooked pasta from uncooked?

I want 1/3 cup cooked elbow macaroni. I can't figure out how much uncooked elbow macaroni to use. 1/3 cup equals one starch. I want to make a salad with fruit, vegetables, low fat mayo and artificial sweetener. The box of uncooked elbow macaroni says that 1/2 cup uncooked is 56 grams. My diet calls for 1/3 cup cooked and doesn't give it in grams.

I'm terrible at math, and can't figure out how to calculate this. I've searched for conversion tables, but my search didn't produce anything.

Can someone steer me in the right direction?
----------

Pasta and rice both, depending on variety, absorb more or less two times their weight in water when they are cooked, in other words they approximately treble in volume. So for 1/3 cup cooked measure you need c1/9 cup (about two tablespoonfuls) dry. This is impractical to measure, especially with shapes like elbow which which can't be levelled smoothly as rice can. If I have calculated correctly, you need 12.5 grams of dry pasta. That's hardly worth cooking. It would be easier to cook a weighed amount, say 100g to make calculations easy, measure it when cooked (I would guess it comes to a bit under three cups), keep the result on file and use up the leftover macaroni in other recipes in the near future. Generally, it is more consistent to weigh ingredients than to measure by volume, a different shape would be a different volume, and it is easy to press cooked elbow and other hollow macaroni down into the cup to get more, but of course that defeats the purpose.
Good luck with your diet.  (+ info)
