What would be the effects of these 3 different brain atrophies?

Like.. what would be side effects of each of them:

moderately severe peripheral cerebral atrophy.
Moderate central cerebral atrophy.
and, mild cerebellar atrophy.

Thanks in advance, and I always choose best answer!
----------

Cortical and cerebellar atrophy means that the mass of the brain is shrinking. This is a common finding in older patients. If mild, it may be of no consequence.High blood pressure can cause vascular disease of the brain and can accelerate atrophy. Hypertension also increases the risk of losing mental abilities with age.It is important to treat high blood pressure at any age. Goal blood pressure for most people with other risk factors (such as vascular disease of the brain) should be 130 mmHg systolic (the upper number) or lower.

Cerebral atrophy is not a disease. It is more a condition that is caused by many, mostly serious brain diseases. These diseases can be congenital like leukodystrophies. Such disease is Krabbe disease where myelin, that is the main part of axon sheet, is being destroyed. Mitochondrial encephalomyopaties interfere with basic neuron functions. Traumas and epilepsy can also be the cause. Senil dementia, Pick's disease, Alzheimer's disease and other similar diseases can also cause atrophy of the brain. Huntington's disease is another congenital disease where a toxic level of proteins is destroying neurons. Infections and MS are another possible causes. I hope I've helped you with your question.
Good luck and take care as always........

Is it possible to build back muscle after it atrophies?

I had a stroke 10 years ago & was paralyzed for a year, I am walking again, but I still wear a brace because I have what the doctors call 'drop foot'. Will I ever be able to strengthen my ankle again?
----------

With physical therapy and perseverance you can get use back and you can build your muscle again. Atrophy occurs from lack of use so you can definitely regain strength and bulk. Drop foot can reverse - I have a friend who had drop foot and she is fully functional now - it took months for her, she was in fairly decent shape, so it may take awhile but it certainly is possible. Don't give up, keep moving and best of luck.  (+ info)

Has anyone heard of olivopontocerebellar degeneration?

My grandfather was just recently diagnosed with olivopontocerebellar degeneration. Does anyone out there know a friend or family member who has this disease?

When people starve themselves, what atrophies sooner, fat or muscle?

In other words, what does that person lose first? Does she use up all her muscle first, then all her fat? Does it depend on the person? Etc....

Detailed medical response please.
----------

If you are physically inactive for an extended period of time, your body will burn off your muscle first because it can be converted to energy faster than fat. An example would be if you broke your leg adn had a cast for say 4 months, the muscles in the leg you broke would atrophy because you can't use it. Thats why you would need to go to physical therapy to rebuild the muscle.

Now, if you were building muscle and being very physically active, your body would burn the fat first because your body needs to sustain the muscle you have built up and the food you are ingesting is not enough. Thats why for every pound of muscle you have, you burn 100 calories of fat.  (+ info)

How long does it take for leg muscles to atrophy?

I used to bike as fast as I possibly could on the highest gear of my racing bike, and now i have huge thigh muscles I want to get rid of. If I stop biking so furiously and continue running, will the muscles still atrophy?

Also, does the position of the bike side have anything to do with how the leg muscles develop?

legs atrophy rather slow-arms really fast.just sit on your ass for a month and it will help  (+ info)

How to best handle muscular atrophy of a geriatric AK amputee's stump when not wearing the artificial leg?

The combination of the prosthetic sock and the socket when wearing the artificial leg provides support to the stump. But, especially in a geriatric amputee who wears the artificial leg for short periods, what is the best way to keep the stump in good shape and not have the muscle fall off the bone over time?
----------

There are some shrinker sock products out there that help keep everything tight and together.

you may also look into a thick liner to help keep the shape. I wear the Ossur Iceross seal in liners and it keeps all the tissue pretty secure.

There are also lots of exercises that can help keep the tissue where it belongs.  (+ info)

How many days of inactivity does it take for me to start atrophy on my muscles and loss of metabolism?

14 years old

150 pounds (varies from day to day, anywhere from 147-155)

6' 0''

Overall in pretty decent shape. Not over-weight, not too skinny, not too weak or extraordinarily muscular

So, how many approximate days would it take for my metabolism to start slowing down, and for atrophy to begin taking place with my muscles?
----------

Not sure of the metabolism part but i know after 3 days you will notice you muscles starting to shrink.  (+ info)
