What would cause pain in lower back that runs over hip and down the leg to the ankle?

My Mother is 82 and has had this pain for several months. Physical therapy works just on the days she has it, then pain returns. It's worse when standing and walking. MRI showed arthritis and 4th & 5th disc slippage. Pain meds don't seem to work.

What is the pain level of getting a tattoo on your back between the shoulders?

I'm planning on getting a tattoo there, but I'd like to know what the pain level is. And don't give me any "Don't get a tattoo cause when your 80 years old you'll die hating yourself" I have a high pain tolerance, and telling me the amount of pain will not stop me from getting the tattoo. I'm just curious.

The more bony the area, the more pain you'll have. And like the guy before said, if its in black, it will hurt less than in color. But it will hurt in that area none the less  (+ info)

What pain medications are most effective for migraines and cluster headaches?

I either have 2 autoimmune conditions or one systemic one. The verdict is still out. Anyway, I have severe stomach pain and also eye pain and horrible headaches that feel like a cluster headache. Maybe they are a really bad migraine. I am not sure.

What medications, specifically in the opiate family, would be most appropriate? Which one would you ask for if given the choice?
----------

I also have a chronic health problem and with it, severe headaches. I have tried everything from opiates to seizure-control meds (no, I don't have seizures!) to a couple others specifically for migtraines and had no luck until recently.

Maxalt MLT 10 mg has worked like a miracle drug for me ! It dissolves under your tongue in a few seconds and works on the headache within 10-15 minutes ! ...A Godsend !  (+ info)

What causes throbbing pain that originates in neck but shoots into head and eye?

I have a sharp pain in my neck that seems to "shoot" into my head. It's like a mixture between a sinus headache and neck pain, but only on the right side of my head.

I have been in pain for more than 2 weeks. I thought it would go away, but I don't even know what kind of doctor to go to.
----------

It could be a tension headache, but the neck pain worries me.
I'll give you some warning signs to look for:
Pain behind the eye
Dilated pupils
Behavior changes
Inability to focus
What you could classify as the "worst headache of your life"
These are symptoms of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, which is extremely life-threatening.
An aneurysm that has not ruptured can cause pain, slurred speech, confusion, certain stroke symptoms...
If this pain has been going on for two weeks, I would definitely go to the emergency room to get a CT scan.
Headaches can be benign, or they can be killers.
You have what is characterized as a secondary headache, meaning that it may be organic in origin.

How long does pain last after getting salmonella?

I was in Mexico 2 weeks ago and I caught salmonella there. It all started last wednesday, the throwing up and diarrhea. I went to the ER on saturday and they did so many tests and found out I had salmonella. But what is wrong with me, is, actually, not my concern. My concern is this pain! When will it go away? I've had pain and diarrhea for a week and it doesn't seem to be going away. And school starts tomorrow! Please help! And any ideas for making the pain go away will help too.
----------

In general, salmonella symptoms begin with nausea and vomiting and progress to abdominal pains and diarrhea. Additional signs and symptoms include fever, chills and muscle pains, and can last anywhere from several days to two weeks.FEVER generally last from 2 weeks to 3 weeks.

Enteric fever. Also known as typhoid fever, this illness is caused by the S. typhi bacterium and is most commonly contracted by drinking salmonella-contaminated water. What kind of pain is normal after having your wisdom teeth removed?

I had my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. Only 1 was impacted (in the top). Yesterday and this morning the pain was not that bad, but now the pain is worse. What kind of pain is normal to expect?
----------

It is normal for the pain to peak on post op day #3 and then gradually improve on a daily basis. So at your stage, I would not worry about anything being not normal. good luck with the healing.  (+ info)

What is normal pain for a navel piercing?

I figure that a certain amount of pain is to be expected. After all there is a steel bar in the skin. However, what is normal expected pain and what is pain from infection?
----------

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being barely noticeable and 10 being excrutiating pain that you want to throw up, I would say a naval piercing is about at 3 maybe a 4. It kind of burns at first, then its a dull ache. Hopefully you won't get an infection but if you do it would feel tender and sore. If you use a curved bar instead of a hoop chances are your belly button won't get infected at all. Good luck!  (+ info)

How long does shoulder pain last after laparoscopic surgery?

I had a lap for an ectopic pregnancy yesterday and the worst pain I'm feeling is the shoulder pain from the intraabdominal gas they use to blow up the belly during surgery. If anyone has had laparoscopic surgery and had post-op shoulder pain, how long did this last?
----------

Two to three days, then it should go away. It is a matter of all the gas seeping out. Bare with it, I know it is very uncomfortable. I have had 12 in my lifetime. Have someone rub your back starting from the top and kinda pushing downward, it will help move the gas out of the upper area.

How do you relieve pain from a hernia when you are pregnant and unable to have surgery right away?

I have a hernia in my stomach. I am also 26 weeks pregnant and it seems like the baby kick it and that is causing a lot of pain. Are there anwyas to relive this pain without surgery or pain killers?
----------

Eat lighter meals. Walk after meals, lay off the soda, drink more water, never lay down after a meal. Loosen your clothing. Some times a gas pill helps.  (+ info)
