Anyone had inflammatory cervical disc problems?

What were your symptoms and how was it treated? Did the treatment work?

I'm having chronic inflammatory pain in throat and neck and just told I have arthritis in the front my cervical spine near the vocal chords. My ENT says GERDs may aggravate it and cause it to swell but it worsens after the slightest cold virus. It's debilitating and it's scaring
me. My PC couldn't figure it out so he just told me it's autoimmune. Offered no treatment.
I'm looking for real experience for this, not links. Thanks.

What is the differeance with chronic depression and depression?

I wnat to know the difference and is clincical depression the same as chronic depression?
Im 14 F
And i have been diagnosed with chronic depression and in not sure what exactly that means?
And what the differance between normal depression and chronic dep
Thanks
I have taken a number of anti depressants (zoloft, wellbeautrin, prozac, trazdon, and now serequal)
----------

Normal depression would be over a situation or trauma such as a parent dying. In that situation you may go through a period of varying degrees of depression for maybe a year or less. Antidepressants help both kinds. Chronic depression is more clinical rather than situational meaning the serotonin levels in the brain are naturally low for some reason and they need to be addressed with long term medication, perhaps for life but not necessarily. I hope you haven't but if you have been subjected to abuse of any kind be honest with you doctor about it if at all possible. This is very important. The antidepressants won't work to cover up feelings and these type go deep within you. Anyway , best of luck to you. You are young and have a whole wonderful life ahead of you. Choose happiness for your mood for yourself as often as you can, it really is a choice. ;~)  (+ info)

What are the chances that chronic depression leads to schizoprenia?

Someone close to me has been battling depression for 17 years now. She is doing a good job, has held on to a demanding job for 4 years now. Though her performance at work are highly erratic. Periods of poor apathetic performance interspersed with periods of high performance.

She shows sympotm of chronic depression, withdraws from social life, has low energy, can spend days in bed, is messy etc. She's on medication too.

I fear that the next phase will be schizoprenia. She's 32 now and has been suffering from depression since she was 15.
Though I said her performance at work is erratic, i dont think it is suggestive of bipolar. She has been fired once before for apathy at work. Since then she is scared to lose her job. When her poor performance at work gets noticable and she thinks her job is in danger, she bucks up and works harder.

And she cannot unfortunately retire from work. She lives in a country that dosen't give benefits. And her aged parents cannot take care of her. She has to earn her living. She would very much like to reyire or atlease work part time, but is unable to do so.
----------

The symptoms of "Though her performance at work are highly erratic. Periods of poor apathetic performance interspersed with periods of high performance." suggest that she is bipolar.

Depressives don't move on to schizophrenia. They move on to suicide.

The danger with medicines is that they give you the energy to do what you need to do. And anyone that says "suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" has never battled depression for 17 years. They just don't understand.

She probably needs assistance with affairs of daily living; if you are battling depression, you can't keep the house clean, and if you live in a pig sty, it's even harder to battle depression. If you could come in, straighten things up, do some laundry, cook a few meals, it would really do a long way towards making her life tolerable. Don't just jump in and take over, though; she's already suffering feelings of impotence, and if she feels like you're treating her like an invalid, that will make things worst, so *talk* to her, and ask *permission* to help with those things. (She will feel undeserving, so feel free to plead with her, to be allowed to treat a deserving friend like the friend she is.)

It may be necessary for her to retire on disability. Social Security disability is getting harder and harder to get, but she probably qualifies, if the doctors fill out the forms correctly.

And never underestimate the value of hugs. She's been through hell, and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight.  (+ info)

What are the best ways to deal with chronic pain?

I have had chronic pain for over four years now due to my condition of Fibromyalgia, chronic bursitis/ tendonitis and lower spinal problems. What are some ways which can help me deal with this pain for the rest of my life?
----------

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia so I know about chronic pain. My first suggestion would be to first deal with the actual cause instead of the symptoms. Anti-inflammatories would be a good way to reduce the inflamation. I take Celebrex but if that's too expensive, you can take either Ibuprofen or Tylenol or Naproxen (Aleve). After that, if you're still feeling the pain, speak with your doctor about pain management.  (+ info)

How can you get rid of chronic knee pain?

I've this chronic pain for quite some time now, I've had to use braces, and ice packs. I'm even taking a joint formula and it seems to be helping, but I'll be walking and all the sudden my knee(either one) will start hurting like I pulled a muscle or something. I can't get anything off of medical sites and it is kind of getting annoying.

i have the same problem. havent found anything yet that works, other than pain meds that knock me out. good luck  (+ info)

What is the best thing to feed a dog diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease?

What is optimal to feed a dog with inflammatory bowel disease?
Information:
Predisone is given twice a day
Refuses standard solid dog food
Refuses turkey
Refuses rice
Just started eating today after two weeks
Current diet: Chicken

I feel that chicken may not be the best option to feed a dog with this disease. If there are any other options that you believe that my dog will consume, then let me know. Thank you.
----------

hi wine, my basset was dx w/colitis a few yrs ago. funny thing is, I have Crohn's disease, a type of IBD like UC.

I would give him some chicken broth, steamed rice, freeze some gatoraid in cubes and give it to him if he was throwing up. a few cubes at a time until you are sure he can keep it down. They now have G2 which has less sugar. Boiled turkey, boiled ground beef or boiled chicken can be given in small amts. The vet can give you some anti nausea medication for him too.

Baby food in the form of meat or chicken flavor is ok too. I would ask the vet for booklets on it or an instruction sheet on how to treat flares and what to feed your dog. My vet gave me tons of info to read along with pain medication and a muscle relaxer if he had spasms.

Yes, it is hard to watch your 4 legged child w/fur suffer. I can totally relate to what he is going through. Just be sure to call the vet if anything unusual happens. That is what you pay them for.

Your dog will be in my prayers.  (+ info)

What is the difference in inflammatory breast cancer and invasive breast cancer?

Or is it the same thing because I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and while looking up info I keep seeing inflammatory and I just am wondering if its the same thing or not.
----------

Inflammatory & invasive breast cancers are given these names because of the symptoms they present. But having one doesn't mean that you have the other. For example: a person can have a headache or a brain tumor. But having either one doesn't mean you will suffer from the other.
Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is marked by some or all of these symptoms: the nipple may be flat or inverted, sudden onset (perhaps over a few days/weeks) of swelling of one breast, nipple discharge, pain or itching, redness that may look like the breast is infected, or thick-feeling areas of the breast. The symptoms and appearance of IBC can sometimes cause a doctor to misdiagnose a patient with just an infection, and some feel mammograms can be inconclusive due to breast density at the time of the swelling.
Invasive breast cancer is graded in stages of 1-5, and at its higher stages has the traits of invading other parts of the body. This means the cancer has spread outside of the membranes of the breast ducts where it usually starts (Stage 0). It DOESN'T necessarily mean that it's spread throughout the WHOLE body. Most likely it has spread to the surrounding tissue of the breast.
Please keep researching. Get to know your invader and how to deal with it. Explore all options before making a final decision.
We hope this helps. Good luck in your journey.

How common is it to have chronic pain after dental implants?

I am suffering chronic pain two years after my second dental implant and have to take Neurontin (Gabapentin) 3 times per day to suppress it. My dentist and a neurologist say that this is probably caused by nerve damage. How common is this? What percentage of implants result in this kind of problem?
----------

You really should not have a chronic pain after implants. If your dentist and neurologist have confirmed that it is due to nerve damage, it is my opinion you need to have the implant taken out and hope you rid this chronic pain.

Are you experiencing some numbness? I would get a second opinion on why you are still having chronic pain. Hope this helped.  (+ info)

What is the best anti-inflammatory medicine that there is ?

I have a cat whose needs a good medicine ASAP .

Please no jerks telling me to take him to a vet !

If I take him to a vet the other cats don't eat and die so be nice and tell me what is the best anti - inflammatory medicine that there is , please !
----------

There isn't a human anti-imflammatory that you can buy over the counter that will not kill the cat (kidney damage, internal bleeding, etc). Plain simple truth.

Take the cat to the vet - I'm not a jerk.
Call the humane society and tell them that you can't afford to feed your cats because of financial hardship.
They have special programs for just such events where they can provide low cost or no cost food.

Good Luck and Best wishes to all of you  (+ info)
