diagnosed with atrophie blanche, prolactinoma and ocd. Will I be medically unfit for work the rest of my days?

Did you have the tumor removed? What was the prognosis. In the states, Prolactinoma would not allow a person to be classified as disabled or draw SSI.
The OCD is also rarely considered a disability. IT is manageable with meds. I "think" they use prozac for this quite often.
Now the Atrophie Blanche would be something else depending on the amount of lesions and the location of them. If you have numerous lesions that would be susceptible to infection, you might be able to get a disability rating. However if you just have a couple that are easily bandaged, then they wouldn't be considered a disability.
I am assuming you are from AUS? just because of the wording of the disease names? You will have to check with someone who knows the laws in your home. The first disease listed in this answer is the most serious, then the third and finally the OCD. As irritating as it seems, OCD is the most manageable of the three.  (+ info)

Prolactinoma. Does this condition inhibit oxytocin production?

If a woman has prolactinoma and chooses to stop meds in pregnancy, could this reduce the production of oxytocin and increase the length of pregnancy? Any specific advice or links welcomed
----------

According to an article on eMedicine.com, if the prolactinoma is large enough to compress the surrounding normal hormone-secreting pituitary cells, it may result in deficiencies of one or more hormones (eg, thyroid-stimulating hormone [TSH], GH, adrenocorticotropic hormone).

Oxytocin is not produced in the pituitary gland; it's produced in the hypothalamus, then sent to the pituitary gland for storage. before it's released in response to a variety of stimuli, including changes in the fetus when it reaches term. During pregnancy, oxytocin levels rise steadily and then spike, causing labor to begin.

Scientists don't know for sure, but they think the increase in oxytocin and the receptors for it may be stimulated by estrogen. And prolactinoma may reduce estrogen production. Therefore, it may be possible that the prolactinoma, by reducing estrogen levels, could interfer with the normal increase of oxytocin -- but this is very speculative.

In fact, one study showed a "paradoxical effect" of increased levels of oxytocin among women with too much prolactin, including three with pituitary tumors.

I you are going off meds because of pregnancy, and plan to have natural childbirth, you'll want to make every effort to have a comfortable, quiet, safe place to give birth, with as little medical intervention as possible.  (+ info)

Question about adenoma/prolactinoma (Pituitary Tumor)?

is it possible to have an adenoma/prolactinoma and still have normal periods?

I have the headaches, the lactation, the nausea and the blurred vision, However my periods are still normal. I am getting a blood test and an MRI as ordered by my doc, but Is it possible to have regular periods and still have this condition? thank you
Why doesnt anyone actually answer the question asked? ........ is it possible to have normal periods and this condition, thats all I want to know
----------

lactation is influence by prolactin. The menstraul cycle in influence by FSH. You can still have a normal cycle with a prolactinoma. The headaches and blurred vision is very troubling. You should have the MRI as soon as possible and make sure you have a neurosurgeon examine the MRI because regular physicians/even some neurologists don't know neurology.  (+ info)

i have all the symptoms of a prolactinoma but when i had a cat scan it showes neg can i still have this?

i have been to the dr to have my prolactin checked it came back at a level of 44.2 which i think is probably high my doctor reccomends me having a mri but i have already had a cat scan and it showed neg i dont whether to do the mri or not any information would be appreciated thanks
----------

44.2 isn't very high, but a cat scan isn't capable of the high res a MRI is.
You can have a tumor of the pituitary gland and have it not show on a cat scan but have it show on a MRI. They call them macro lesions or Micro lesions, depending upon the size of the growth.
Dostinex is used to control the excretions of the hormone prolactin and can shrink the tumor down and counter act the side effects.
Surgery is only performed if the lesion is growing despite the drug Dostinex or is at a size where the drug is having little or no effect.
Go get the MRI, they arnt painful, just noisy.
Get it treated as soon as possible, because it can eventually affect other organs within your body. You have a higher degree of Diabetes and Thyroid disfunction.  (+ info)
