Ladies with prolactinoma, how long did it take to get pregnant?

Hello!

After trying to conceive for a year, my doctor did a blood test to find that my prolactin level was 80, and has remained high. I also had a test done at 6 months TTC and was not ovulating. I recently went to the reproductive endocrinologist and was put on Dostinex for prolactin and also having to take Prometrium to make me have a cycle (very irregular). I was just curious how long it took others to get pregnant after starting medicine. Hoping that a baby lies soon ahead for my husband and I!! :)

Thank You!!!

I have one daughter I. Was diagnosed when I was 18 and had a baby by my 21st birthday now my daughter is 2 and I am hoping I am pregnant again. My best wishes to you and your husband good luck.  (+ info)

Any idea about excessive spotting before and after period?

For the past 7 months my period has steadily gone more haywire. I get all the regular symptoms for my normally very heavy and painful period but instead of getting my period proper, I have started spotting (brownish/rust coloured) anywhere from 3 to 6 days before my period actually starts. After my period, I get the same thing for the same length and sometimes longer.
Some background: About 8 years ago (I'm now 29), I had a LEEP to remove precancerous cells on my cervix caused by HPV. Both my sister and my mom have hormone imbalances (prolactinoma, hypothyroidism and the latest is some adrenal malfunction).
I think that I might be overreacting because of my family's history and my prior issues. Any clues as to what could cause this kind of spotting?
I'm not on the pill.

You really shouldn't have to deal with that. It is normal for some people but I would talk to your doctor and see if there is anything he or she can do to help you. The pill can help tremendously with situations like that.  (+ info)

Im not pregnant, but why do I have breast milk?

I've now been producing breast milk for the past year. I am 18, I am and have never been pregnant!
My prolactin levels were a little raised months ago, but are fine now. I had an MRI scan and isnt a prolactinoma (a benign tumor on the pituitary gland) I am on the deppo injection but no other medication. Has anyone ever had this whilst on deppo?
Please help, no doctor can tell me why!
No, doctors no nothing about it!
----------

I never had that while I was on depo. However, I have heard that when you're on depo it convinces your body its pregnant so when you're on it, you have increased cravings, spotting, mood swings, tender breasts and other side effects. I'm sure producing breast milk is probably a rare side effect from it. Doctors don't really know much about the depo shot because there are a lot of side effects that no one can possibly explain unless they have had it and experienced them.  (+ info)

is brain tumor and pituitary tumor the same?

my friend has prolactinoma, it a pituitary tumor in the brain right? i would just like to ask if it is a type of brain tumor?
----------

Technically no but it is contained within the dura (the white casing that surrounds the brain), requires neuro-surgery to get at if that is decided that is a treatment and they are tracked as benign brain tumors in a government database.

They do have symptoms. Depending on the pituitary tumor, it can have different symptoms.  (+ info)

Good foods to eat when you suffer from thyroid and pituitary problems??

In 2003 I had a prolactinoma resized. Unfortunately most of the side effects lingered...i.e. tiredness, sore joints, depression and headaches. My endo says my labs are normal besides my under active thyroid which I take Lavoxel for. Is there any good diet that I should consider to increase my quality of life?

Vegan diet, organic fruits, veggies, whole grains  (+ info)

Breast milk 6 years after having a child ?- Query?

My friend had her first and only child 6 years ago, she breast fed and her breasts never dried up completely. She has been to her GP, she does not have raised prolactin levels. she's considering donating the milk to help special care babies. But my question is why is this still happening, is this normal ? Is it possible for her to have a pitutitary prolactinoma without raised prolactin levels or could it be something else or is it just something she has to live with ? Thanks.
----------

Ever heard of a wet nurse? Once activated many women's mammary glands have the capacity to produce milk for years, even long after child bearing age.

Case in point is my own. I still have milk. It was tested years ago because the doctor thought it unusual discharge. Nope. Milk. My child is 24.  (+ info)

Amennorhea Caused by Prolactinemia?

I am trying to suppress a secreting prolactinoma, but cabergoline gives me headaches and a bit of nausea. #1. What ingedient is causing this reaction, and #2 Bromocriptine is just as bad. Though they have proven results, if my quality of life is affected by the side effects, is it worth it? Is there another alternative (aside from surgery)? I could live a normal, healthy life with amennorhea, but I might want a child someday soon. Any medical leads out there? I'm in Los Angeles by the way. Thanks.

I would recommend a consultation with a Reproductive Endocrinologist (a doctor that can help women who would like to have a child but are struggling to do so and also help other women find ways to help them get pregnant when they are ready) as well to see what they say. They can do additional testing to try and help you figure out what other options might be available to help the prolactinemia.

Also, for the natural front a Naturopathic doctor might be of help in consulting about options available on that front.  (+ info)

Does anyone know anyhting about tumours on your pituatry gland,?

I have raised pro lactin levels and recently found out i have a tumour on my pituatry gland sometimes known as prolactinoma, macro or micro prolactinomas

i have had a mri scan recently and am waiting for my results just wanted some other information
I was told by my doctor that majority of prolcatin tumours are non cancerous. some can turn out to be. my pro lactin level is 1,131. normal levels are 0-80 for non pregnant females and 80-100 for pregnant females
----------

Thankfully, prolactinomas are generally quite benign and relatively easy to keep under control. Your doctor will advise specific treatments for your individual needs. You should manage quite nicely.  (+ info)
