How To Make A Powerpoint Over Retinoblastoma?

I have to make a powerpoint in AP biology about Retinoblastoma? I know it's a somewhat rare childhood cancer that develops in the retina of the eye. Honestly, I don't know how to make a powerpoint over anything, much less cancer. Do I just make it informal? Like what do I do? He also wants us to add a song? Any non-insulting backgound music songs?

Why is retinoblastoma restricted to the eye?

I know that this form of cancer is caused by a mutation in the Rb gene. But isn't it all of our cells contain the same set of genes. Why then, does only the Rb gene in the eye get mutated and develop into cancer?
The Rb gene is actually mutated in many human cancers, acting as a break to cell division in cells throughout the body. However, cancer is not only caused by mutations in single genes such as Rb, but other genes need to be mutated as well. In retinoblastoma for some unknown reason, you need Rb mutations, and likely some other changes, but you don't need to accumulate many many successive mutations to develop a tumor. In a form of retinoblastoma that runs in families, individuals when cured of their retinoblastoma are still at higher risk for other cancers, such as osteosarcoma later in life. It is true that the retina is extremely sensitive to cancer when this gene is mutated, more so than other cancers and this is still not well understood.  (+ info)

You may find it hard to find retinoblastoma survivors online - if the disease itself didn't directly lead to blindness, the treatment itself can also cause visual problems. Plus, it is still quite rare. It might be better to contact the society for the blind to get this type of input  (+ info)

Please, tell your story so others know that a retinoblastoma is a childhood cancer and that it is an eye cancer which appears first as a white glint in one eye or both eyes or as squinting eyes of a child below four years of age. Tell everyone you know that this should be reported immediately to the eye doctor to save the child's life, protect the child's eyes and vision.
The Hindu newspaper reported in 2004 the remarkable work of Dr Brenda Gallie of Canada to identify the gene that causes this dreadful disease in children. Her team's fantastic research has made it possible to deliver the foetus four weeks prematurely and laser the tumor in the eye(s) while still small in size. YES, it is possible for you, a survivor of retinoblastoma, to have a child AND protect it from eye cancer. Retinoblastoma is a very aggresive ocular tumour that occurs in children. If not detected soon enough it can rapidly spread to other parts of the body. Once it is advanced, the eye often needs to be removed and replaced with a prosthetic eye in order to stop it spreading.

As it occurs in children, it does not have many symptoms, other than reduced vision in the affected eye. Children often do not notice this reduction in vision as the other eye compensates for it. It can also lead to a retinal detatchment.

Retinoblastoma is a genetic cancer, and is passed on thorugh the genes.  (+ info)

in all of my babys pictures he has red eye in both eyes or sometimes just in one eye.sometimes its a really bright like laser beam red in both eyes. and occasionally just a darker red in one eye but not the other. is that normal? or could he have retinoblastoma or some other eye problem?
