rubella???????

i've just got back from the doctor's and they say my son has got rubella, i don't no much about it, can anyone fill me in he's only 22months
----------

here are signs and symptoms:
-fever of 102 degrees or lower
-swollen glands, usually in the neck
-by the second or third day, a rash appears, generallystarting on the face and spreading to the chest and back, then the legs and arms. rash can appear as tiny red or pink spots or irregular blotches, and usualy lasts only a few days
-painful, aching joints, especially in adolescents.

HERES WHAT TO DO:
- keep ur child quiet and comfy, and provide lots of liquids
-give ur child acetaminophen for discomfort. (never give aspirin to a child under 12 who has rebella, flu, chicken pox, or any other illness you suspect of being caused by the virus, such as bad respiratory infection.)
-keep infected child away from ohterchildren, pregnant women, and any susceptable adults. a person with rubella is contagious 2 days bafore and up to one week after the rash appears.  (+ info)

Rubella: How likely is a 'breakthrough' case in an immunised adult who is exposed to the virus?

I'm 14 weeks pregnant. My toddler has just been diagnosed with a probable case of rubella, despite being immunised. We're going to get blood tests done to confirm the diagnosis. From antenatal screening I know my immunity level is good - what is the chance of me also getting a 'breakthrough' case?

Links to credible sources appreciated.
----------

If your immunity level is "good" - I assume that you had pre-natal testing - then you should be fine.

Breakthrough cases occur in people who have been vaccinated but who for a number of reasons, the vaccine didn't take (i.e. titer testing showed no immunity). Basicially it is a failure of the body to fight off the vaccine and learn how to make antibodies; you however, show evidence that your body has antibodies.

I would let your OBGYN know that your child has rubella. He will probably have some other instructions for you while pregnant.  (+ info)

How much does the immunization test for measles and rubella cost?

I need a diagnostics for Measles and Rubella Immunization to apply for school. I found that I can do it at Quest Diagonostics.

Does anyone know how much it might cost me?

Are there are other labs I can test blood for immunization records?

Check your County employment opportunities for jobs with the Health Dept. It may not pay well to start, but the benefits and retirement would make up for that.  (+ info)

How long should I wait after getting a rubella vaccine to try and concieve?

I recently had a pre-conception blood screeing done and they said I was not immune to rubella or hepatitiis B even though I had the vaccines when I was younger. My husband and I were going to start trying for a baby within the next few months, but I was wondering how long I should wait after having a rubella vaccine before I should start trying to concieve?

If you are having your MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) shot you should wait at least 28 days before trying to conceive.  (+ info)

What type of Cells does the Rubella virus attack?

I need to know what type of cells Rubella attacks? Is it red blood cells? I need to know for Biology.
----------

I have just read three or four articles about Rubella and not one of them describes how the classic rash is pathogenetically causing it, They go into quite some depth about pregnant women being exposed, which, admittedly is a major concern but they only say it transmitted through the nares and throat. Incubation is 12 -14 days and is in the blood by the 6th day.So I'm sorry but I don't know pathophysiologically how the rash develops, only that it does and goes away treated or not in three days , hence the name The three day German measles.
You look through the articles maybe I just didn't pick the right ones.
God bless.  (+ info)

Why would you do a urine sample with a blood test checking your rubella level?

Hi. I was at the doctor the other day asking about whether or not it would be fine to go ahead in a couple of months time to start trying for a second baby. My little girl is one in April. He said yes and did I want to do the pre-pregnancy blood tests checking my rubella level etc. I said yes. He printed out the pathology form and said just when you're ready get them done. When I went today to do them I was asked to do a urine test as well. I didn't do that the first time around. Just wondering what it tested for? Thanks!
----------

to make sure your not pregnant because if you were and needed the rubella booster shot it could hurt the baby. And it was also done to check for a UTI that needed treatment before you attempted to get pregnant. Also maybe to get a baseline on your protein levels and sugar levels so they have something to compare during your pregnancy. I did not do the prepreg test and found out I did not have the rubella antibodies when I was 4 months along and I had to be extra careful to not come in contact with anyone who might have the measles including my hubby at one point(thank god it was only a severe reaction to poison ivy) (not that I was glad he was sick but still my baby was safe) and had to get the shot before I could hold my newborn after he was born.  (+ info)

Is it harmful to my baby to be tested positive for rubella during early pregnancy?

I went to the doctor the other day and they ran blood tests. I checked my results online and it said that I tested positive for rubella virus IGG. Can someone tell me if that is bad? I dont have another appointment until next week. Im almost 9 weeks pregnant. Thanks.
This is my first pregnancy so Im not sure what some of these tests mean. I did want to know if anyone was tested for it and knows for a fact that positive doesnt mean that I actually have it.
