Can Entoptic Phenomenon be seen on white background as well like on a Computer Screen?

Well, I see those flashing little fast moving objects when i look in the sky (along with my floaters).. I had my eyes checked by 2 eye doctors said my retina's fine.. However i notice that when i'm looking at the bright white background like the pc screen i can see some of those entoptic phenomenon as well but not when looking at other colored objects. is that normal with the phenomenon as well?
----------

It's probably normal. The sky is usually a bright light color, and white backgrounds, or white computer screens will have a similar effect on you.
Your eyes sound fine. Myopes, if you are one, have thinner retinas, I think, so they get to see things others don't.  (+ info)

Can you explain this current drinking phenomenon to an old guy?

If you consider 37 old, that is. I have noticed what some folks have been ordering lately whwn I have been out on the town. First: What is the deal with Red Bull and vodka? Why drink an energy drink with something that relaxes you and would taste foul anyway?

Second: What's the deal with drinking backyard bears? I can underwstand not wanting to drink anything Anheiser Busch related as that stuff just stinks out loud. But PBR? This is like drinking Milwaukee's Best! My generation fought for more microbrews and imports so we wouldn't have to drink the weak mass market stuff! One of you youngsters out there please explain it to me!
----------

They probably think it's cool to drink like that. They see what their parents drink, then mix it with what's hott and there you go, a babyboomers drink. I don't know, that sounds really weird, especially that combination. :/  (+ info)

What causes the phenomenon "seeing red," when a person is angry?

Just curious, is it caused by increased blood pressure, or what?
I mean, literally, when a person is in the thrall of a rage, them seeing everything with a red tinge to it. It does happen.
----------

Do some people literally "see red" when they're angry?

One thing that occurred to me was that if some people literally see red when they're angry, there may be some basic physiological reason for that. If so, it may be a cross-cultural phenomenon, and we might see traces of the red-anger association in other languages.

Of course, it may be that if some people literally see red when they're angry, that association is culturally derived. Then the lack of cross-cultural corroboration is irrelevant.

Is it possible that there's a (more) physiological rather than psychological explanation for this phenomenon?

I've just finished a biopsychology class where we learned a bit about vision. Before light reaches the photoreceptors on the retina, it passes through overlying blood vessels. We don't see them because the receptor cells habituate to them and are used to receiving less light (and perhaps a longer wavelength?). However, if you hold a light up to the side of your eyes, apparently you can see them. (I'm still planning to find a flashlight and try it out.)

Anyway, my thought is this: what if the changes the body undergoes during extreme rage or anger cause the blood vessels in the eyes to swell, and the receptor cells to respond to this by detecting red? In support of this, the sympathetic nervous system is thought to respond in fight/flight situations by signaling the heart to pump faster, among other things. So it is, as far as I'm aware, probable that the blood vessels in the eyes would be affected.

I suppose using equipment more readily available in a hospital; one could measure changes in the eye's blood vessels, and correlated this with phenomenal accounts of seeing red, (even in cases that did not involve rage). I think this would serve as good evidence that some people really do see red when they're angry.

There's another explanation:
According to the book 'Rage: A Step-by-step Guide to Overcoming Explosive Anger', "Some people literally "see red" when triggered by extreme anger because the rush of blood being pumped is far too quickly and powerfully expands the capillaries in their eyes."

So in conclusion- I do think the myth of literally "seeing red" when angry is true.  (+ info)

What kind of doctor might specialize in Reynaud's phenomenon?

I've had Reynaud's for years and usually my fingertips turn white and then blue then they go back to normal, but now my fingertips are red and it's not going away. What kind of doctor deals with this?
----------

Reynaud's is a problem of the circulatory system. Vasospasms in the hands constricting bloodflow and warmth to your hands. The problem is much more prevalent for women than men.

Since it would involve a specialist, start with your General Practitioner. A referral is almost always needed to see a specialist. Your regular doctor will know who best to refer you to from there. Best of luck.  (+ info)
