What causes vivid dreams during periods of low food intake or starvation?

I have heard from people who have either been deprived of food or were on a starvation diet that they had really vivid dreams; so what is the cause? Does the process of digestion take up too much energy that could otherwise be focused on dreams and dreaming or is it another phase of starvation where you are going delusional in your sleep, or something else?
----------

Yes fasting can give you more focused and detailed dreams. They say it happens because your mind and body is completely cleansed, therefore making your subconscious more able to be vivid. The food and medicine and drinks and whatever other chemicals we put in our body block our mind from doing this normally. So when our body is completely pure so is our mind. Its more of a mental thing than it is physical. It accomplishes almost the same thing as mediating on a regular basis would.

How many calories can I eat without going to starvation mode?

I know if you eat to little that your body will go into a starvation mode and your body will store all the fat instead of help you lose it. I want to eat as less as possible. So what is the least amount of calories a female that is 5'6 can get away with?

PS: The point in my diet is not really to lose the weight, but get into shape and lose fat and gain muscle.
----------

well the number of calories one can take without having to little or to much is different for everyone.

try to have snacks at every meal nothing big.
so you trick your system.

cold water is suppose to take up one pound because it has to be heated in your stomach so you loose 1 lb every time you drink cold water.

i had a nutritionist and a instructor lol eck.

they put me on a blood type diet and gave me shots that had to be special ordered to get rid of water weight .

turns out im allergic to half the stuff i eat and it causes me to retain water. go figure.  (+ info)

How do I get out of starvation mode without gaining extra weight?

I am a teenager.

For the past 3 days, I have been really stressed out with life and with schoolwork and I have eating HORRIBLY, emphasis on HORRIBLY.

And I lost 10 pounds! I want to start eating normally but I am afraid that I will gain back more weight than I used to be.

Did my body already go into starvation mode? How can I get out of starvation mode without gaining [extra] weight?

Thanks!
----------

Yes you are in starvations mode, stop worrying about gaining weight, your not gonna be 300 pounds in 5 minutes. You need to take in a certain amount of calories a day, depending on your weight and age. If you are 120 pounds, i would say 1500 calories a day. That simple. No fast food, NO sweets, NO soda, low sugar, low fat foods. And don't eat too many carbs late in the day(after 8 p.m.). And get some exercise. 30 mins a day is all you need. I would try yoga if I was you, it works great. Do NOT go eating horribly just because of stress k?  (+ info)

How long does it take for someone to die of starvation?

I'm writing a story and one of my characters die from starvation (with water). Here are some details about the character:
-Adult
-Female
-Average health
-Average height
-Average weight
I want to make the story as accurate as possible so any help would be greatly appreciated. I've heard about a month, but I'm assuming it depends on various things. Also, what are some of the symptoms along the way? So far I have the character 5 days without food. What would she be experiencing by this point? Again, any help would be great. Thanks!

How do you get past a plateau without going into starvation mode?

I am 5'7" 139 lbs, I eat about 1200-1400 calories a day. I have a heart condition and am unable to exercise (I am only allowed to do gentle stretching), so the only thing I can do is diet. I want to get past my weight loss plateau but I'm worried my body will go back into starvation mode. I've heard mildly increasing caloric intake can actually help, is this true? Has anyone tried it? Help!

This is truly a remarkable question. I hope someone answers this one!!!  (+ info)

How many calories do you need to not go into starvation mode?

I have read 1200 so I have been eating that much because I used to eat about 300 and just didn't lose any more weight after a while.
But I have got my matabalisum back up again.
Will anything less then 1200 make you go into starvation mode?
----------

First of all, a doctor can tell you and I think that you should see one BEFORE you do anything. This sounds really scary to me because it sounds as though you might be anorexic or on the verge of it. Please make an appointment with a doctor and talk to them about it. 1200 calories sounds not bad but then i have no clue on the subject. Eating the bare minimum isn't going to keep the weight off. In fact, it makes it worse because whatever you eat, your body stores and then it will start to feed off of your body then that's very serious. Ask a doctor.  (+ info)

How do I get my body out of starvation mode and resume normal eating?

I am a 17 year old guy and for the past few months I have been on a strict diet of 1000 calories or less and I think my body has probably entered starvation mode. Now how do I get my body out of starvation mode and resume normal eating without gaining back the fat?
----------

Well first i assume your exercising, so keep doing that. A good way to not gain back the wieght is to start eating a few more calories every week until you get back to normal. I would suggest gaining back 100 calories every week until you get to where you want to be.

Good luck!!!  (+ info)

How long does your body last in starvation mode?

I recently started a new medication that completely cuts my appetite. I can't even get myself to eat a half of a bagel in the morning. I barely touch food.

I'm actually gaining weight, which is probably because I'm going into starvation mode. How long will this last?

How many calories does it take to make your body enter starvation mode?

When you start eating not enough calories, I know your body enters starvation mode. But when? How many calories per day does it take for your body to start storing all the fat? Like, will it enter starvation mode if you eat only 300, or 800, or 1,200?

I'm just curious =]
----------

There is no answer to this. Every body has different variables. Metabolism, energy used, condition of body, what foods are eaten.....  (+ info)
