Do you think babies born to surrogates have the same attachment disorder as adoptees?

Particularly if they are not genetically identical to the surrogate mother?

If in utero a baby hears a voice, feels movement, eats the same food as the surrogate mother, would the handover to the bio-parents be a separation the same as when an adoption takes place? Would the child suffer the same as adoptees with RAD?

Don't worry, it's not about me - I am not an adoptee or surrogate and never will do either. I'm asking a theoretical question.

Dear Mom,

Heather beat me to it! I was going to link you to the same blog. Here's another:

Certainly there is bonding in utero. Science supports this and women are encouraged to consider this when choosing to act as a surrogate or place a child for adoption. Not only does this bonding occur because of sounds, smells, rhythms, etc. but also the biological exchanges between mother and child as the child grows inside of her. Even surrogates exchange biological material with the fetus during pregnancy.

This is something that is just now getting real recognition. Glad you asked about it.

Camira, Most children born from surrogate arrangements have to be adopted by at least one parent. Surrogacy and adoption often go hand in hand.

ETA: Camira, I never knew it either, but found out while doing research into adoption! It was SHOCKING for me to learn how connected they are - changed my perspective, yes indeedy!!! :)  (+ info)

Periodic Limb Movement Disorder in children?

Does anyone know how I could find out if my son suffers from PLMD?
----------

I would have him tested for sleep apnea first. It is very overlooked and can be a giant cause of PLMD. I suffer from it too, and it is caused by my sleep apnea. I currently take neurontin to help ease it. Im waiting on my appt with the sleep clinic. Good Luck

Im responding to the idiot below me who called me pathetic, my son did have sleep apnea, and it is very real in children and adults!!  (+ info)

Can bactertia in stools develop in any scenario into a throat disorder caushing a clicking noise in throat?

This is a very general question... is it possible for any bacteria found in stools to cause a condition that causes a clicking in your throat when moving your arms in a rowing fashion or when applying pressue on left rib cage?

Also when I move my neck left and right I hear the clicking in my throat basically any movement will create this clicking and it's not acid reflux.

Movement disorder specialists, please help me!?

I have symptoms similar to chorea and dyskenesia and other movement disorders, where i have irregular movements, but there is one difference that I cannot find.

:My movements are not completely involuntary, as in, its not unexpected. It's more like an urge, a desire so i can either try to crack a bone(like cracking your knuckles), except more so than a whim. At first, it started in my eyes, where its like theres an itch i just cant reach in the back of my eyes. I'm still not sure if something is back there or not...

In any case, this urge, for lack of a better word, seemed to "spread" to other parts of my body. I periodically pop myelbows and they almost always pop. I move my neck around a lot, almost into contortions, to try to crack a bone i can hardly ever reach. it feels like its unreachable but there will almost always be at least a slight pop at the slightest movement. Even when i breathe out, sometimes the lowering of my body will crack a bone around my neck.

I also have to try to crack my back a lot.

The worst part though is my eyes. It seems like, that the severity of this urge and itch is increasing with each passing year. It wawsnt that bad in middle school, i could conceal it by making it look casual.

But now, in high school, as a senior, i have to strain my face and sometimes "clamp" my eyelid down and move my eye around to satisfy this urge.

If anyone out there can help me at all, please give me some advice! im desparate...and im also incredibly scared...because most of these disorders are incurable...
Dan-do you have any medical backgrounds?

lkl- no i am not on any medications. thank you. i will do my best to see one.

Anyone taking mirapex for periodic limb movement disorder? If taking something else...what and does it work?

Well, I was taking it but its been a while since i could lift the pill to my mouth, so....

Hehe- just kidding.

Mirapex doesnt have a periodic limb movement disorder as a prescribing indication, so your doctor is using it "off label". The usual therapies are benzodiazepines, gaba pentin, tiagabine, baclofen, levodopa. Go over the pros and cons with a neurologist who knows you well.  (+ info)

Is there any evidence that atypical antipsychotics cause movement disorders?

Please give an outline of the name of such movement disorders, like dyskenia, and dystonia, are these prevelent?
----------

atypicals are less likely to cause movement disorders. thats is the main reason why they are prescribed. if i were you, however, i would call your local pharmacy and ask to speak to a pharmacist. they have EXTENSIVE training in this sort of thing. and most of them love the opportunity to share what they know.  (+ info)

Severe PLMD (Periodic Limb Movement Disorder) PLEASE HELP!!!?

Okay, here goes...I'm a 21 year old male who've had a severe case of PLMD for the past 4 years. I mean, hell, I didn't even had a decent night's sleep for nearly 4 years ago where right now I'm at the point of complete exhaustion and I can't function right in society anymore. My gpa at college went down cuz I can't function in school anymore, and I'm losing friends cuz of this stupid disorder, it's literally ruining my life. During the night, my chest, head, arms, legs, or foot w.e., jerks and thrash vioently EVERY time I ready to sleep, thus preventing me from sleeping. This never happens when Im awake, ONLY when I'm asleep. Why is my body doing this to me? I went to the doc and asked if there were any treatments, he said no sorry you have to live it. This pisses me off. I'm really screwed up mentally because of this. I am considering suicide because I cannot keept on living my life like this. I tried taking alcohol or sleeping pills where I can relax and drift off to sleep but no, it only m akes my jerks even more violently where I actually hurt myself. One time my head jerked so violently, It fractured a disc in my neck. Now I'm scared to go to sleep, because I don't want to wake up the next morning paralyzed from the neck down. I don't know what to do. Please help, and this is serious answers so no half-assed jokes or stupid answers.
----------

See if you can talk to a therapist. There is a possibility that this is happening due to a mental disorder (in which case, medication and therapy will help). Even if that is not the case, the therapy will at least help you learn how to cope with the disorder on a day to day basis as well as deal with your underlying depression.
In the meantime, I strongly suggest that you see a different doctor. It doesn't sound like this one you are seeing now is very sympathetic or caring.
Best of luck. Stay strong.  (+ info)

Rhythmic Movement Disorder?

Ever since I was a baby, i've noticed "head banging" on my pillow would help me get to sleep. I've been doing this off and on. I'm 21 now and I think I may have a case of insomnia. I currently take melatonin (1mg) before bed, but still head bang against the pillow. It helps me to get to sleep. Will this behavior cause any damage? I make sure there is a pillow there and I'm not hitting my headboard either.
----------

i do that to, or i hit my head with my hand and it makes the stress go away, im not crazy or anything. but it helps me sleep also, but i do it once in a blue moon, not all the time  (+ info)

DYSTONIA. My cousin has just been diagnosed. Any information about the muscle movement disorder appreciated! (

Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. The neurological mechanism that makes muscles relax when they are not in use does not function properly.
Dystonia is a chronic disorder, but the vast majority of dystonias do not impact cognition, intelligence, or shorten a person’s life span.  (+ info)
