Where can I get an interview on Sudden Infant Death?

I am a 6th grader looking for an interview. I need someone who has been through the tragic Sudden Infant Death. Your identity will be kept but only my classmates will know about you. I am writing a research paper on SIDS and I need an interview in order to complete my paper. If you could give me your e-mail address and I will send you 6-8 questions. Thank you!

I think vaccines and lack of co-sleeping and not breast feeding could have to do with it. Also smoking around a child and drug use.  (+ info)

How does stuffed animals increase the chances of sudden infant death syndrome?

If there are toys in the crib, on the opposite side of the crib will that affect the baby? (the baby wont be sleeping on the same side as the stuffed animals are. the toys will not be near him). also are bumpers bad to use in the crib?

burping a baby too hard causes sid? (something i just read) is this true?
----------

Well, if your baby is not moving around yet, then the stuffed animals should not be able to suffocate. however, my daughter started moving around very very early, so why risk it? Sids is not caused from burping a baby too hard. If you burp a baby too hard, its because you're frustrated, and you shouldnt be near a baby if you're that frustrated. Good luck  (+ info)

What causes sudden infant death syndrome?

What causes sid and how can it be avoided?
----------

just dont keep anything in the crib with the baby like no - blanket , Teddy bear anything that the baby can suffocate the baby they say you shouldn't use bumper pads but thats only till they move around because they can get caught between them and suffocate you should remove it around 2 months also laying baby on its back to sleep and if you smoke do not around the baby and do not allow anyone else to smoke near your baby. SIDS is - sudden infant death syndrome heres a link where you can read about it more i looked all this up when i was pregnant good luck hope i could help

Could anybody please help me find a legitimate case and study of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in Philippines?

this is for my term paper in child psych but our professor would not let me pursue the topic unless i find a local study of that disease here in our country. so please if anyone could suggest a journal or an article or better yet a copy of that study.. i would highly appreciate it.
----------

I dont know anyone who has suffered due to this syndrome but one of the cases could be that baby puts his head in the blanket or in his pillow and suffocates. It could be serious if he is not watched closely. Another case would be when baby starts rolling in his crib, he can accidentally get hurt by the rails of the crib if the bumper has been removed and that can cause damage depending on the force with which baby hits the rails. You can find such cases on the net but not necessarily in this section... I think  (+ info)

Are long haul flights contributory to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?

I seem to recall hearing about how taking very young children on long haul flights can be a contributary factor in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome? Is this true and if it is what age is classed as safe to take them?
----------

found this on the web

Question

Is it safe to fly on a long flight with a small baby?

I read somewhere that the air quality wasn't good and babies lungs weren't developed enough to cope with it and it could bring about cot death.

I ask as a grandmother.

Answer

We are always delighted to answer queries from concerned grandparents, and this particular worry is certainly one which has been disseminated in the media in the recent past.

In fact there is no evidence that long-haul flights pose a cot death hazard to small babies, and I personally would have no hesitation in taking a healthy baby of my own on a flight.

The air is recycled in modern jets, but as I say there is no strong evidence that there is any cot death risk.

SIDS, the charity that looks into the study of sudden infant death syndrome, does not consider long-haul flights a risk either. In many ways small babies travel far better than older children as far as parents are concerned.  (+ info)

Where can i find a video on line about Sudden infant death syndrome?

my husband and i are wanting to start a family soon, we want to educate our selves as much as possible about infants and toddlers. We have looked at books and rented a few videos from our local library, but i can't seem to find any good information about SIDS. I have checked my local health department and doctor, they only gave me pamplets. Anyone have any good websites or suggestions?
----------

You CANNOT avoid SIDS or prevent for that matter. I lost a baby to SIDS and have done a lot of research on it (not Internet based either I've went to hospitals, doctors, surgeons, etc.).

First off positioning has nothing to do with why a baby suddenly stops breathing. Suffocation is not SIDS so a baby that dies on its tummy because it was face down in the crib or because of a blanket is not SIDS it is suffocation, not the same thing. They have changed the way they rule a SIDS death and suffocation is suffocation it is no longer considered SIDS. My daughter was on her back and still died of SIDS. I joined a SIDS group shortly after she died and guess what....most of the mothers in my group have also stated that their babies were on their backs, sides, in strollers, swings, etc. There were only a couple on their tummy. If a baby dies on its tummy and it was not suffocation then yeah it was probably SIDS but that baby would have died in any position just like my daughter did. A sudden cesation of breathing has nothing to do with positioning or there would be no babies at all dying other than in just one position. People are so hell bent on this back to sleep stuff that they follow it so cautiously along with everything else they have come up with and then like me their baby dies and they are left saying but I did everything I was supposed to. It doesn't matter what you do. Whatever is causing these babies to stop breathing is beyond our control as parents. It is something you have no control over and if it's going to happen it's going to happen. You should just enjoy your baby and not let this overwhelm you. I've had two more and both of them slept in whatever position they wanted, usually on their stomach, and they are both fine. SIDS has been known to happen up until 1 year but the risk decreases after 6 months. I know three people in my SIDS group that lost their babies at 10 month and two at 12 months. There are also 2 that lost their baby to SIDS while their baby was awake so it doesn't even have to happen while they are sleeping. They say it is more likely to happen to males, in the winter months, and african american babies but my baby was a girl, it happened in June, and she was white. I don't buy any of the garbage they try to tell people anymore because more than likely if you do your research and ask people that it has actually happened to you can discredit everything they are saying. Just like the pacifier supposedly reducing the risk, yeah right, my daughter had a pacifier in her mouth and it fell out when she stopped breathing. That is another one that got asked of the mothers in my group and as it turns out the pacifier did not do their babies any good either. Good theory but it is not true, but people will believe anything because it is easier to beleive that something, no matter what it is, is a solution for why babies just suddenly dies, but they need to get some facts and proof before they start preaching it to people  (+ info)

Can children age 1 year die from sudden infant death syndrome?

How old would your child need to be, to be considered safe from SI.D.S.?
----------

Yes, it's possible, but more and more rare as they get older  (+ info)

What are the most frequent sudden infant death causes, is there any technology to prevent them?

They think a lot of it is due to suffocation. This is supported by teh fact that back sleeping has greatly reduced SIDS. Plus, the risk decreases around 4 and 6 months, when babies are getting better neck control and then learning to roll. But no one knows for sure how to prevent it.

They now advocate putting baby on their back to sleep and not having any sheets/blankets/toys in the crib. Even bumpers can be a suffocation hazard. If you use them, tie them on tight, or get "breathable" mesh ones.

A recent study also showed that having a window open or a fan on can reduce the risk of SIDS because of the moving air. Pacifiers are also supposed to reduce the risk, presumably because if a baby's mouth is full of pacifier, they can't inhale/sufficate on their bedding. Finally, secondary smoke can increase the risk of SIDS, so keep your baby away for exposure to that.

Several stores sell "wedges" that are supposed to keep your child in a safer sleeping position. These have not been shown to actually reduce SIDS, however.

The best thing you can do to prevent SIDS is ALWAYS put your baby on their back to sleep. Otherwise, sadly, there isn't much you can do.....  (+ info)

Does anyone have any stories about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?

I am working on a fundraising/ raising awareness project I was curious as to how S.I.D.S has affected you or anyone that you know?
----------

A friend of my mothers had a baby that died from SIDS. It happened 35years or so ago but till this day she still mourns the loss of her baby. I was 10 when she told me and I could not understand how a baby could die for no known reason. When I had my twin girls I was so afraid that I would lose them to SIDS and then I really understood her pain. When my twins were born another mother in the ward across from my ward lost her baby from SIDS. 2 days after the baby was born.  (+ info)
