What is the difference between IBS and Inflammatory bowel syndrome?

I ask because my state NJ is legalizing medical marijuana. I've been dianosed with IBS but NJ rules say you qualify if you have inflammatory bowel syndrome, kind of confused and yes smoking pot somehow relieves these symptoms, don't ask me how.

Anyone ever heard of systemic mesenteric syndrome?

I need to do a pre clinical nursing assisgnment. The pt. has a medical diagnosis of systemic mesenteric syndrome. I cannot find this in my diagnosis book and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
----------

I am not aware of such a diagnosis - perhaps there could have been a mispelling or misprint in your assignment question??

Systemic implies that the condition occurs throughout the body... but mesenteric pertains to the blood supply of the intestines. There is simply no such entity as systemic mesenteric syndrome.  (+ info)

How does an injection of epinephrine stop the inflammatory response?

When you are having an allergic reaction or extreme itching after a sunburn or rash, how does epinephrine work to stop it?
----------

I've never given epinephrine for extreme itchiing or sunburn, or even a rash. I've only ever given it for a life threatening allergic reaction, which we call anaphyllaxis. Besides giving the epinephrine, I also gave them injectable diphenhydramine and a steroid. I would imagine it help blocks the histamine receptors, and helps open the lungs up for better respirations. It's been too long since I've went to school to tell you exactly what goes on.  (+ info)

Is it true that smoking a cigarette twice a day will help with inflammatory bowl syndrome?

I am watching House Md. and he just prescribed someone cigarettes.

In the short run in ulcerative colitis is helps with the pain but then you are putting your self in a position to get lung cancer which will take your life before you can even cure yourself from the colitis. Not every thing you hear is 100%. In Crohn's disease it will increase the pain and worsen your condition.
There are other methods to help those diseases then why choose one which will kill you?  (+ info)

How would applying ice to a wounded area to reduce blood flow to the area affect the inflammatory response?

When the redness appears, obviously the blood supply in that area is high. When you stop the increased blood flow, less leukocytes (white blood cells) are carried to the injured area. Leukocytes are there to kill off and mend any damage to the body's tissues

Inflammatory response principle causes cells of death - could anyone help to explain this?

could anyone help me to explain this statement?
i have wrote about the cells death of necrosis, apoptosis and agiogenesis

is there anything else i could include? (related to ischemic stroke)
----------

The statement you must explain is confusing. Please clarify what "cells of death" are?

Perhaps you mean "The inflammatory response principle causes cellular death". Inflammation is basically a protective mechanism and during the response there will be many cells killed. Some, like white cells, in the "line of duty" and others like tissue cells as a natural consequence of inflammation and/or cellular necrosis. Apoptosis is programmed. Agiogenesis is new vessel growth from existing vessels.

I can't really advise you as to what else you can include as it pertains to ischemic stroke unless I can see what you've already written.  (+ info)
