Tetralogy of Fallot and my baby?

is it possible for my baby to have Tetralogy of Fallot if it is prevelant in my family????
Okay thanks for the answer so far but they're not what i'm looking for I know what Tetralogy of Fallot is i just want to know if my baby could be at risk....
----------

Well, this is what I found: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetralogy_of_Fallot
I'll add that there's a heart defect (VSD) that runs all through my husband's family line, but neither he nor our biological daughter have it. In fact there are far fewer family members with the defect than without it.
Talk to a perinatologist about it. I did when I was pg, and he made me feel very calm about the risks of having a baby with a chromosomal abnormality, which was my biggest risk.  (+ info)

pregnant with Tetralogy of Fallot?

is there anyone that has been pregnant and has tof i am a little scared i found out that i am pregnant i have taken 7 test and one was a blood test from the doctors and they all came back positive but i have a heart prob. that is called Tetralogy of Fallot and was wondering if there is anyone that has had a pregnancy that also has this condition and if i should be scared or if it is going to go ok

Has your Tetralogy of Fallot been repaired with surgery? This would usually be done when you were a baby or small child. If it has, and if you have no more symptoms like shortness of breath or blue skin (cyanosis), than your risk during pregnancy is quite low, almost as low as a person who never had it.

If it's not been corrected, then your pregnancy is considered high risk, and you should see a special doctor with training in high risk pregnancies. She can tell you more about your specific case and what you need to do to have a healthy pregnancy. Many women with ToF have perfectly normal, boring and healthy pregnancies, but you want someone who knows what they're doing to monitor you and teach you what signs of trouble to watch out for.

Some forms of ToF can be genetic, so you definitely want to tell your doctor you have it so she can screen the baby for it. If the baby does have it, they can do surgery to correct it so the baby doesn't have long term health problems.  (+ info)

tetralogy of fallot heart help?

i have a tetralogy of heart defect, can i have sex
----------

Oh, yeah!

Obviously, since ToF is a Congenital Heart Defect and you're old enough to be thinking about sex, you've been dealing with it for a while. By now you know how you feel when you get to doing too much and getting worn out. Just take things nice and slow, everything will work like it should!

A lot of guys who have trouble keeping their energy level up (pun not intended) let their lady get on top and do all the work. Side by side can be nice and easy, too. And trust me, the women really appreciate a lover that goes slow!  (+ info)

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF)?

Could you help me to explain clearly about Tetralogy of Fallot (congenital and malformation of heart)
and how to diagnosis ?
----------

Tetralogy of Fallot refers to a combination of abnormalities with four key features: 1) A ventricular septal defect (a hole between the ventricles) and 2) obstruction of blood flow from the right ventricle to the lungs (pulmonary stenosis) are the most important. Sometimes the pulmonary valve isn’t just narrowed but is completely obstructed (pulmonary atresia). Also, 3) the aorta (major artery from the heart to the body) lies directly over the ventricular septal defect and 4) the right ventricle develops hypertrophy (thickened muscle).Because of the pulmonary stenosis, blood can’t get to the lungs easily, so the blood doesn’t get as much oxygen as it should. Because the aorta overrides the ventricular septal defect, blood from both ventricles (oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor) is pumped into the body. People with unrepaired tetralogy of Fallot are often blue (cyanotic) because of the oxygen-poor blood that’s pumped to the body. In most cases, the cause isn’t known although in some patients, genetic factors play a role. It’s a common type of heart defect. It may be seen more commonly in patients with Down syndrome (in association with AV canal defects) or DiGeorge syndrome. Some patients can have other heart defects along with tetralogy of Fallot.Normally the left side of the heart only pumps blood to the body, and the heart’s right side only pumps blood to the lungs. In a patient with tetralogy of Fallot, blood can travel across the hole (VSD) from the right pumping chamber (right ventricle) to the left pumping chamber (left ventricle) and out into the body artery (aorta). Obstruction in the pulmonary valve leading from the right ventricle to the lung artery prevents the normal amount of blood from being pumped to the lungs. Sometimes the pulmonary valve is completely obstructed (pulmonary atresia). Most patients are diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot as infants or young children. Patients with unrepaired tetralogy of Fallot are usually blue (cyanotic). This is true in infants, children and adults with unrepaired tetralogy of Fallot. Most adults with tetralogy of Fallot have had it repaired in childhood. Many people are symptom free but may have residual or recurrent problems. These include valve leakage of blood into the heart’s right side, blockage of blood leaving the heart’s right side and heart rhythm problems. Some patients with these problems may have limited exercise tolerance and may require medicines, repeat operations and/or a special pacemaker to lower the risk of heart rhythm problems.Tetralogy of Fallot is treated with two kinds of surgery. One provides temporary improvement by a shunt to give more blood flow to the lungs. The other is a complete repair of the two most important abnormalities that make up tetralogy of Fallot. Patients might have one or both surgeries in their lifetime.  (+ info)

lost a baby 17 days old for tetralogy of fallot and few minor deformations i'm 37 is it o.k. to have another?

i lost a 10 yars old daughter in a car crash , this is why i'm trying again... i now have an 8 years old and a 2 years old daughters
----------

I don't see why not.

If you're worried about your age, you shouldn't. Medicine and medical practices are making it safer and safer for women to have babies at older ages. The chances of you having any difficulties during pregnancy or giving birth have increased a bit since you were 20, but not enough to worry about.

The age gap isn't big enough to worry about either.  (+ info)
