I have vocal cord paralysis. It voice sounds horrible and I'm depressed. Has this happened to anyone here?

It's permenanent.
Thanks everyone. It was a benign tumor which was surgically removed but completely destroyed the cranial nerve for vocal function. The nerve was removed so no chance at recovery or need for therapy. Just thought it would be nice if someone had some experince with this or knew someone.

Hey..i know a little bit about vocal cord paralysis. I would highly recommend you seeking care for a Speech and Language Pathologist or an otolaryngologist (ear noes and throat doctor) they can help tremendously through exercises and therapy or they might even recommend surgery as a possible option. I have a question, now is it just one side of the vocal folds or both sides?

I know every type of speech disfluency is hard. I know, i had one myself. Oh a bright note, if i'm not mistaken they guy from American Idol (david archeleta) had vocal cord paralysis and look him now...

there is hope!!!  (+ info)

can strep throat bacteria cause vocal cord paralysis?

I was diagnose with unilateral vocal cord paralysis I took a cat scan wich I haven't receive the resuts yet but got all the strep throat simpmtoms at least most of them,Could it be possible that strep throatis causing me vocal cord paralysis I know that VCP can be caused by a injury or a viral infection burt strep throat is a bacteria is that concider a viral infection?
----------

Streptococcus infection, or strep infection, is different from a viral infection, because any Streptococcus organism, for the most part, is a bacterium. The one usually implicated for strep throat--which is what I prefer to call as pharyngitis--is Streptococcus pyogenes. And one area or site of infection where it is found is in the pharynx or in the pharyngeal area where for some people it is normal flora, or part of the body's normal "bacterial community"; rarely and even not so that S. pyogenes causes an infection of a person's larynx, much more vocal cord paralysis, since its pathogenesis follows a certain pattern with every known infection it is capable of (and even the sequela it can cause).

Perhaps what might have occured in your case was that, during the time when you were diagnosed with unilateral vocal cord paralysis, it just so happens that you have a Strep infection, making it seem that the bacterium is the cause of your vocal cord paralysis--it's more like it was at the right place (pharynx, for strep throat) at the wrong time (the time when at the same time you have strep throat, your vocal cord was paralyzed), making it seem that S. pyogenes caused the paralysis.

There's but one way to know this and it is to determine whether the paralysis was caused by a mechanical/chemical nerve obstruction that initiated a localized paralysis (which could explain the unilateral paralysis presentation) or that the paralysis was caused by a viral infection, as what you claim, in which case cultures must be made to determine the presence of viral particles. On the defense of S. pyogenes, not that I am vindicating your pharyngitis or anything, it is not a virus but instead a bacterium, so in some ways, your pharyngitis checks out of the VCP allegation unless proven otherwise by your physician and any cultures that would prove this otherwise as well.

Hope this helps!  (+ info)

Help for vocal cord paralysis?

I was diagnosed with a paralyzed vocal cord 7 months ago. My doctor thinks there is a slim chance of my voice ever returning to normal. Does anyone else have this problem and if so your advice is appreciated.

Does anyone have any questions on bilateral vocal cord paralysis?

I 've had this condition called "Bilateral Vocal Cord Paralysis" all my life. I'm 19 years old now and because I've had it for so long I'm ok with it but I may eventually get it fixed. The reason I've always had it is because I was born really premature. Every time I talk my words come out normal but the sound of my voice is really low. My vocal cords stay open even I eat which I don't normally do. When someone eats and drinks the vocal cord should close and someone talks the vocal cords should open. Having said all this, my question is do any of you have any questions on bilateral vocal cord paralysis? I'd like to give advice to those who are or who know someone who is going through the same thing.

Eating the desired food is crucial for your wellbeing. You can try supplementing your diet with acai berry, it is not solely a widely tested and acknowledged weight loss produce, it is a superfood too. There's a risk free trial on offer at http://garint.humandiet.info I have been taking it for three weeks now and it is definately having an effect!!  (+ info)

i am suffering from left side vocal cord paralysis and taking homeopathy i.e oxalicum acidum 30, bell-200?

and also neuroboin forte tab. i m working in a private institution as a lecturer and unable to speak. how much time it will take to recover and is my treatment is in right direction? what else i should do?
----------

I'm an ENT.
Left VC paralysis is a serious condition caused by problems as varied as a viral infection of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (most common), lung cancer ("Pancoast"), Schwannoma tumor of the vagus nerve, and enlargement of the heart.

This is no time for messing about with whimsical foolishness or pyramid power.
Get your ass back to the ENT physician (who is almost certainly where you learnt your diagnosis) for proper evaluation and treatment...

PS. When diagnosed, viral damage recovers very slowly. We routinely tell folks to expect improvement only after 3-6 months.
Ask your ENT if he'd be willing to inject some temporary bulking-up into the left cord to help you keep your career if necessary.  (+ info)

Is there any treatment to get back my voice? I have paralysis on the right vocal cord.(?

After an operation of peritonitis about two months ago, it seems they hurt the with the intubation the right VC.
The ENT says there´s no treatment; if I recover is only a question of time . Thinking that I can stay with the voice of Vito Corleone and unable to sing, raise the voice or cry forever, I am very concerned. Besides, I need the voice in my work.
The doctor does not preclude other alternatives (though he doesn´t known outside the medicine). I believe in natural medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture or anything that can stimulate the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which is what moves the vocal cords.
I have a meeting to go to a speech language therapist. I am also consulting on acupuncture, although I have not yet received a response. And I have been taking homeopathy Causticum 15 CH, two pellets every 12 hours for 15 days (now I'm resting), with no improvement.
I appreciate your information.
Please don´t answer with bullshit or if you don´t know anything about this. Thank you.

I heard about a little boy, maybe 7 years old, who was paralyzed in his right hand, (may have been left. I can't remember). Nothing anyone could do could help fix it. One day the mom took the boy to feed the dolphins and he fell in love with them. She told him that his favorite dolphin only ate from his right hand, though, so he couldn't feed her. He loved the dolphin so much he spent weeks and months trying his hardest to move his hand, even doing it in his sleep, and, after months of trying, he overcame his paralysis! Maybe you can do the same. Every night before you sleep, practice making all kinds of sounds, noises, ect. Work as hard as you can and never give up. Maybe, just maybe, you will get your voice back. Try saying these sentences as well as you can:
1: Momma made me mash my my M&Ms
2:Super bubble gum. Super duper bubble gum. Super duper double bubble, super duper double bubble, super duper double bubble gum!
I hope that you get your voice back. I'll be praying for you.  (+ info)

Is it possible to get a cyst on your vocal cord from screaming too much?

My grandson got a cyst on his vocal cord after a vacation in Hawaii. I think that the doctor said it was from screaming too much. Is this true or was it there from before. And if my granddaughter screams too much, will she get one too.
----------

It is possible to damage yourself if you scream. The singers who do that effects use specific techniques of how to do it without risking to damage themselves http://michaelwillow.com/2009/03/16/is-the-screamo-singing-dangerous-for-the-vocal-chords/
otherwise you are exposed to a damage.  (+ info)
