HW HELP!! What are 2 injuries (e.g, head wounds) and describe the nature of each injury in five sentences.?

Images on TV and other media of injuries caused to people affected by the earthquake in HAITI are still fresh!
----------

Nature answer:
There was a massive earthquake. Rubble hit them in the _________. ________ was damaged by the hit and began to (bruise/bleed you can pick the severity you would like here.) The amount of blood lost was controllable. Thus, though painful the injury is survivable.

Just replace the blanks with different body parts.  (+ info)

is it true wounds and injuries are more prominent (noticeable) when you're dead?

After death, the skin begins to dry out and, as a result, shrinks a little. This causes hair and finger/toenails to appear to still be growing (this is where that particular myth comes from) as the skin retracts. I assume wounds would also become more prominent for the same reason.  (+ info)

Defensive wounds on arms when pulled behind the back?

I'm writing a story where the main character's arm gets broken. Her arm is wrenched around behind her back so that her fist is about at her spine, then pulled farther so it broke. It seems like it would break in two places, and dislocate the shoulder. But I need to figure out exactly what sort of injuries would happen by something like that. I'm hoping to keep things mostly accurate, so I just want to know what injuries would occur by doing that. Please and thanks!
----------

It all depends. If her arm is wrenched around her back, so that the knuckles of her hand are touching her spine and the one with her arm pulls it further say upward towards the back of her head. There are a number of possibilities that could happen:

1.Humerus doesn't give and the attacker uses her elbow as leverage it would just rip her shoulder right of its socket, and in the process would tear the tendon and ligaments holding it in.

2. Humerus gives and the attacker uses her elbow as leverage it would break her upper arm and tear the shoulder out, but the damage to the shoulder would more than likely be less significant because of the lack of the humerus as a fulcrum.

3. Lets say the attacker doesn't use the elbow as leverage, but instead just pulls her wrist towards the opposite side of her body and then pushes up on her elbow. This would tear the ligaments and tendons it her elbow and maybe damage the shoulder depending on the force used to break the elbow.

There are a lot of possibilities on the injuries as you can see, but to narrow it down you have to be very specific on how exactly the attacker is going to break her arm.  (+ info)

Will EMT training get me used to the sight of bad injuries?

I'm thinking of getting trained as an EMT, however I get upset at the sight of really bad injuries (e.g. severe wounds). I know I can eventually get used to it, but I'm wondering whether the typical EMT-basic training is enough to help me grow a thick skin? or is this is personality trait that I need to walk in with?
----------

It depends on where you train. Riding with EMS will expose you to the most injuries. So will riding with your FD. I'm an EMT-B student, and as far as in class goes, we only see pictures from our book. The actual thing is WAY different. I use to cringe at the sight of a nasty injury, but after you learn what the injury is and how to treat it, all you'll think about is what you need to do to fix it. Learning will help create your 'thick skin'. Good luck!  (+ info)

What makes self injury wounds heal faster?

Last night I totally screwed up and cut, I want the wounds to heal as fast as possible so my friends don't see them as they will be very upset!
Before last night it has been five months since I last cut! I am trying to quit, it's just not as easy as some people may think
----------

There's nothing you can do, other than clean and bandage them. Once you do it, it's done. And it will take however long it wants to heal.

Quitting self-injury is not an over-night thing. I would know. I did it on-and-off for 5 years.

When I finally decided to quit, I still slipped up now and then. It happens. Don't beat yourself up over it, and don't let your friends beat you up over it either. Recovery is a process. You don't just decide to quit and BAM, you're over it.

There will be set-backs. No one is perfect. Accept that, and start again after every set-back.  (+ info)

does lemon or vinegar works as good as alcohol for cleaning open wounds?

i do not know if anyone has done this before. When having small cuts and injuries, i sometimes use vinegar or lemon, as it is what i have in hand for cleaning it, and it does not get infected, especially when on mountain trips and such.
Is it advisable? or is there a Scientific evidence that it is as good as alcohol or other oilments?
----------

First let me say that alcohol should never be used on open wounds as it kills living cells, causes inflammation and delays healing . There are 2 things that I recommend above everything else due to their safety and effectiveness. These are tea tree oil and lavender oil. Both of these can be used straight from the bottle without causing harm. I have used lavender oil in an eye that had 2nd degree burns to the cornea that completely healed in 2 days to the astonishment of the ophthalmologist.
Another great remedy is to use raw honey on a wound and cover. honey keeps the wound moist for healing and produces its own hydrogen peroxide.  (+ info)

My cat has a leg injury with some wounds which seem quite deep?

I have a female Siamese cat which has got some severe wounds . I took her to the vet and he asked me to give her an antibiotic syrup using a needless syringe to her by placing the syringe filled with antibiotic syrup in her mouth but she spat it out. I don't know what to do and am really worried. I will also ask about the type of food to be given to her and how much and how to prevent her from biting and scratching. Wish you the best so please help me out.
----------

Hi There,Your poor cat, It is a good thing for your cat to lick her wounds as she will keep it clean and as for the antibiotic syrup if you can't get your cat to keep it in her mouth then put it on her front leg and paw, she will clean it off and get her medication, best of luck. I hope you and your cat are alright.  (+ info)

Is it harmful to the healing process to soak wounds in warm water?

Does just regular tap water help heal wounds, does it do nothing, or does in impede the healing process. I currently have the beginnings of a scab forming on my gash i got and I was wondering what effects water has on the wound/scab/healing process. Thanks (by the way.. the injury is road rash and has some scab forming).
