Can anyone please provide me information concerning a medical condition called Juvenile Xanthogranuloma?

Can anyone please provide me information concerning a medical condition called Juvenile Xanthogranuloma? My youngest son was diagnosed with this when he was 4. They performed a biopsy on him to make sure it wasn't cancerous. It wasn't. We were told it could affect his eyesight and to keep an eye on it. I've had differing views, but the first one is the one I follow and that is that he will have to have yearly opthamologist's eye exams and that it could cause glaucoma. I'm not sure if this is something he'll have to live with forever. Any information regarding this condition would be greatly appreciated; i.e., how it came about, what to expect from it, is it inherited, etc. Thanks.

Is it harder for juvenile diabetic teen to lose weight rather than a normal kid?

I am juvenile diabetic and would like to lose about 20 lbs. All of my friends have been losing weight with no problem but I haven't dropped any weight :( Anyone have advise? Does anyone have experience as a juvenile diabetic and losing the weight they want?
----------

It's tough for Type 1's to lose even a few pounds, I'm in the same boat. Most nutritionists will say it's because we have to treat our lows when we exercise, adding more calories, but that doesn't add up for me. Some think there might be a component of artifical insulin, or the fact that we inject insulin in big spurts rather than a trickle, that might be to blame. Regardless, what's worked best for me is keeping my carbs at less than 30g per meal, less than 100-120g per day. The weight will come off slowly, but it will come off. Your BG's will be easier to control too. And of course get some moderate exercise a few times a week.  (+ info)

How do I lose weight with juvenile diabetes?

I'm 14 years old and I've had juvenile diabetes (otherwise known as type 1 diabetes) for about 3 years. I'm 5'8 and 160 lbs (please no rude comments about my weight.) Would you consider that to be really overweight? If so, how can I exersise without hitting so many low blood sugars? It would kind of defeat the purpose, exersising then drinking juice to get my energy back up. Thanks!
----------

I'm sure your trying to watch the diet thing. ( yeah it's hard) You can also do as much walking as possible (stopping to rest when needed). Try to keep busy by moving around a lot more and do simple exercises like you have to do in gym class. You really don't sound like your much overweight for your height.  (+ info)

How can I get information on paying for medical supplies for a juvenile who has diabetes?

I have a cousin that has juvenile diabetes. The family has no insurance and it probably over the income for a medical card/chips program.
----------

Don't be so sure about being over the income for the chips program. They should at least try to apply. They might have to pay a portion of the cost but would at least be able to get medical supplies with the prescription plan.  (+ info)

Why do most Doctors not want to concider juvenile bipolar disorder?

80% of children that is said to have ADHD, suffer from juvenile bipolar disorder.
all information gain through:
NIMH ( national institute for mental health)
U.C. Los Angles Psyc. dept
U.V. Psyc. Dept
U.of Pittsberg Psyc.dept.
----------

For a few reasons.

There is no proof positive test, and it's not 'definitive' until there is a clear period of depression AND one of hypomania or mania. (Hypomania is subthreshold mania and can look like ADHD or visa versa.) ADHD is more common, so statistically the odds lean to ADHD.

There is a lot of stigma attached to the dx, and there can be a desire to not negatively influence a kids self-confidence and self-image. (Yep, the mis-dx can be just as bad, and in some ways worse.)

Perhaps the biggest reason... the meds for bipolar are harsh. Kids organs and so forth are still developing. Side effects can be many. A life time on the meds takes its toll on the body and can lead to kidney failure, liver damage, and other serious problems. Starting meds in childhood might exacerbate those problems. (Generally, the meds are safe. This issue is 30-40 years on them, which holds for many other drugs as well.)

My life would have been much different if I'd been dx'd when young, so I'm definitely not defending the pdocs.  (+ info)

What are alternative treatments for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis besides medication?

I have a moderate case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and have been on pretty strong medications for it since I was 2 years old. I currently have a 3 1/2 month old and am breast feeding so I can not take any medication. I am in a lot of pain but do not want to sacrifice the breast feeding so I am looking for another option. Example: a special diet or anything???
----------

Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (Still's Disease)

Chronic, inflammatory, systemic disease which may cause joint or connective tissue damage & visceral lesions throughout the body characterized by fever, rash, hepato-spleenomegaly & arthritis in children.

It is a persistent inflammatory arthritis (> 6 weeks) that begins before age 16 for which no specific cause can be found.

Homeopathic Treatment for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis

Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. The homeopathic medicines are selected after a full individualizing examination and case-analysis, which includes the medical history of the patient, physical and mental constitution etc. A miasmatic tendency (predisposition/susceptibility) is also often taken into account for the treatment of chronic conditions.

Please visit the following web-site and choose the medicines that are relevant to your symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are perfectly safe even while you are breast-feeding.

What is something that I can give to the people who donate to the Juvenile Diabetes fund?

So, I wanted to start collecting money as donations for the Juvenile Diabetes fund, but I also wanted to be able to give the people who donate a little something. I also think that that would attract more people to donating. For example, when I collected money for the Breast Cancer fund, I gave out little pink Breast Cancer ribbons to each person that donated. I wanted to do something a little different for diabetes though. So, does anyone have an idea?
----------

I am a captain for a team for the Diabetic Walk here in my city this weekend, and I gave out pins for people to wear that say "Support Diabetes Awareness". There are several companies you can order from (I found mine on Google) and they really don't cost much. I had thought about putting "I Supported Diabetes Awareness"....

People around me seem to like the starts that have "_______ donated to the American Diabetes Association Walk"....I had them at the grocery stores and they would put them in the windows so people could see how many donated.   (+ info)

4 year old with juvenile arthritis qualify for social security?

My four yr old daughter has juvenile arthritis, and she has Medicaid. Does anyone know if she may qualify for social security benefits? Thanks for your help!
----------

I would go to the social security office and tell them I want to apply for ssi for my daughter, that is the only way to find out for sure. I would Not call as they will do everything they can to discourage you from trying. Also contacting a disability attorney would be a great idea. I am not aware of people under 18 being able to get SSI or SSD since its for people of working age, but I would sure check into it because I could be wrong. The people I know who receive SSI are of working age, even some live at home, but are unable to work, mental disability etc.
Call a lawyer who specializes in disability cases, if it is possible to get it they will help as they get a percentage of the back-pay and some cant get it without the help of an attorney, anyhow go along with the fact you are going to use an attorney and would like to hire them and see what they say, they will tell you straight up if your daughter is qualified, that is what they do everyday.

Best wishes!  (+ info)

What is the difference between youth apparel and juvenile apparel?

Like in this website:
http://www.footballfanatics.com/COLLEGE_Kentucky_Wildcats_Jerseys
the 3rd item is a youth jersey and the 5th item is a juvenile jersey. I need to know the difference so I can get one for someone. thanks.
----------

Good question. it is not used in fashion. If it is, it is rare. But, Juvenile, means kids under the age of 18. In stores this is young men or boys sizing. But I guess some manufactures use the term, Juvenile. But, I looked at the site and it 's sizing chart measurements are the same for juvenile and youth. So I would call the seller and ask them. Something tells me they have another sizing chart somewhere. I would buy the youth size for a boy who is 12 years old and up.  (+ info)
