Yaws is a disease caused by a spirochaete (spiral-shaped bacterium) which is similar to organism causing syphilis. But yaws is not a std. It is found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world.

Characteristically it is a child wood disease and 3 or 4 weeks after infection an itchy growth appear. The lesion is highly infectious and can extend to other regions of the body. Treatment is effective with a single large dose of penicillin. Unfortunately, the cases I have seen during medical college were not treated and resulted in extensive destruction of the skin, joints and bones of the legs.  (+ info)

Whats the difference between Treponema pertenue and Treponema pallidum bacteria?

They are totally different species of bacteria.. You may have learned nomenclature in biology, but let me refresh your memory: In a scientific name, the first name is the genus, and it is capitalized. The second name is the species, and it is lower case.

Trepomena is the genus, pertenue and pallidum are the species.

Genera can be very large and encompass thousands of species. Keeping with the pathogenic bacteria theme, Clostridium is a huge genus. Clostridium perfringens is a species that causes diarrhea. Clostridium botulinum causes paralysis.

So between T. pallidum and T. pertenue, there must be enough of a genetic difference between the two that they would be classified as different species. Why are yaws contagious?

People yawn when the level of carbon dioxide in their blood is a little too high, this is bad and eventually can cause unconsciousness. To stop this you yawn, yawning means you take in a big gulp of oxygen and expel carbon dioxide. They are thought to be contagious because if I see you yawning my brain thinks.. uh oh there is too much carbon dioxide in this room that person is already feeling the effects, to protect myself I will yawn too!

By the way you also yawn if you're tired because you're breathing naturally slows which makes carbon dioxide build up more easily. You will yawn when you are tired to expel this excess carbon dioxide!  (+ info)

We used to have an italian restaurant here in san antonio called bacconi's. I think they closed down. Well, they had this dish called a spicy pepperroni pasta. It is kind of a moist to dry dish. I know some of the ingredients are diced tomatoes, pepperroni, italian sausage. But I can't seem to replocate this dish. Does anyone know how to make this dish? Yeah, what were you doing in the ladies restroom? I use the seat covers or hover plus I'm usually trying to keep my purse from sitting in whatever gunk is on the floor and other fixtures in the stall and I almost always have one or both of my kids in the stall with me trying to keep them from touching everything.
