A hypertriglyceridemia disorder, often with autosomal dominant inheritance. It is characterized by the persistent elevations of plasma triglycerides, endogenously synthesized and contained predominantly in VERY-LOW-DENSITY lipoproteins (pre-beta lipoproteins). In contrast, the plasma cholesterol and phospholipids usually remain within normal limits.
