Calyceal diverticula in children: unusual features and complications.Calyceal diverticulum is a relatively rare lesion that is usually asymptomatic but can assume clinical significance if drainage is impaired. Three patients are presented with unusual complications directly referable to a calyceal diverticulum. One child had a mobile calculus. In 2 others, intrarenal inflammatory masses developed in the area previously occupied by a calyceal diverticulum. Pyelocalyceal diverticulum: an unusual cause of acute renal colic.The differential diagnosis of acute flank pain includes kidney stones, urinary tract infection, dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), arterial or venous compromise of the kidney, renal abscess, renal carcinoma, and papillary necrosis. This is a report of an unusual cause of renal colic: pyelocalyceal diverticulum. Stasis of urine within a diverticulum promotes both calculus formation and urinary tract infection, either of which can lead to colic. 4/15. Vesical calculus formation on permanent sutures.Bladder calculi are uncommon in adults and usually result from either obstruction or foreign objects. The present case report describes an elderly man presenting with recurrent urinary tract infections. 6/15. Atypical findings in a patient with a renal milky stone including a cake of stone.A 54-year-old woman was admitted to our department with the diagnosis of a renal calculus. She exhibited dull left flank pain. A plain film revealed a round opaque calcific density in the left kidney in the supine and the upright position. There was no connection between the calcification and the renal collecting system by retrograde pyelography. Computed tomography in the supine position showed a rounded calcification in the left renal parenchyma without a semilunar configuration. She was diagnosed with left renal calyceal diverticula calculi. She underwent a surgical intervention which found a renal milky stone including a 10-mm. diameter stone. The examination of the fluid and the stone material disclosed three components: calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate and calcium carbonate. 7/15. Enteroliths of small bowel diverticula.The formation of an enterolith within a diverticulum of the small bowel is a very rare occurrence. Complications of this include abscess formation, perforation and obstruction of the small bowel. We report four cases. One patient presented with intermittent pain relieved after calculus removal. One case was an incidental finding on barium follow through but presented with obstruction of the small bowel 3 years later. 8/15. Stone formation in a female urethral diverticulum. review of the literature.A case of stone formation within a female urethral diverticulum is presented together with a brief literature review. Clinical diagnosis may be suspected if a stony hard mass is palpable on the floor of the urethra. The definitive diagnosis depends upon a plain x-ray film and a retrograde positive pressure urethrogram. 10/15. rupture of a pyelocaliceal diverticulum.Although numerous reports have described the complications associated with pyelocaliceal diverticula, rupture of a pyelocaliceal diverticulum is extremely rare. We present a case of spontaneous rupture of a pyelocaliceal diverticulum with ureteral calculus. After passage of the calculus, no extravasation was demonstrated without any surgical or manipulative procedure.
