11/13. Langerhans cell histiocytosis, diabetes insipidus, hyperprolactinemia and empty sella: a four-fold association. Report of two cases.

Two cases of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) expressing as hand-Schuller-Christian syndrome with diabetes insipidus, hyperprolactinemia and empty sella are here reported. Up-to-date this four-fold association is lacking in world literature and it is here discussed in the light if LCH is a cancer or the clinical expression of an immunologic disorder.

12/13. Empty sella, growth hormone deficiency and pseudotumour cerebri: effect of initiation, withdrawal and resumption of growth hormone therapy.

An 11-year-old boy with normal visus and eye fundus, but with empty sella, growth hormone (GH) deficiency and central diabetes insipidus was found to have intracranial hypertension with papilloedema after 6 months of catch-up growth under recombinant human GH (rhGH) replacement therapy. Withdrawal of rhGH therapy was associated with normalisation of intracranial pressure within 1 week. Three months later, resumption of rhGH therapy at a lower dose was again followed by pronounced growth acceleration, but now without papilloedema. CONCLUSION: Children with empty sella and GH deficiency may be prone to rhGH-induced pseudotumour cerebri which appears to be rapidly reversible and dose-dependent.

13/13. diabetes insipidus and polydipsia in a patient with Asperger's disorder and an empty sella: a case report.

The paper describes a patient with Asperger disorder, Neurogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) and Primary Empty Sella (ES). His response to vasopressin treatment suggested a concomitant presence of primary polydipsia. This is the first reported case of an autistic spectrum disorder associated with NDI or ES. The implications of the observed co-occurrence of these relatively rare disorders are discussed in relation to diagnosis and pathogenesis.
