/40. Pedal manifestations of disseminated intravascular coagulation.disseminated intravascular coagulation is a complex hemostatic imbalance associated with many disease states. The potentially lethal systemic consequences of this disease mandate that the podiatric physician obtain a complete detailed history in addition to proceeding with appropriate consultations from other specialties. If haste is utilized and surgical intervention is undertaken without careful consideration, a potentially fatal situation may ensue. A comprehensive case report highlighting the pedal presentation and complications, and an overview of this disease process are presented.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Plantar fat pad atrophy after corticosteroid injection for an interdigital neuroma: a case report.A case of bilateral interdigital (Morton's) neuroma treated with steroid injection therapy developed plantar fat pad atrophy, shown on magnetic resonance imaging. Some pathologic changes at the site of injection (such as subcutaneous fat atrophy, depigmentation of the skin, and telangiectasias) are well known disadvantages of local steroid injection for the treatment of the Morton's neuroma. Scientific literature reports these problems (mainly as an aesthetic problem) in the dorsal aspect of the foot. In this work, the authors describe a case in which the steroid injection therapy has caused some changes in the plantar aspect of the feet, with serious functional problems. Fat pad atrophy is a serious problem in the foot and can cause a painful metatarsal syndrome with some important effects on the gait.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 6keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Elastofibroma of the foot: uncommon presentation: a case report and review of the literature. We report the clinical, microscopic and ultrastructural features of an elastofibroma arising in the foot. The lesion typically occurs in the elderly, and in 85% of cases arises from the connective tissue of the posterior chest wall. The histopathologic features of this lesion are distinctive, and are characterized by a haphazard array of eosinophilic collagen and elastic fibers, associated with fibroblasts and aggregates of mature fat cells. There are only two reported cases in the literature arising in the foot.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Malignant melanoma of soft tissues (clear cell sarcoma) of the foot. Is MRI able to perform a specific diagnosis? Report of one case and review of the radiological literature. The magnetic resonance (MR) findings in malignant melanoma of soft tissues, also called clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses, have been described as a focal abnormality with a specific MR pattern of increased signal intensity (relative to normal muscle) on T1 weighted sequences and variably decreased signal intensity on T2 weighted sequences (relative to surrounding fat). We have reported here a case of malignant melanoma of soft tissues of the foot, studied with ultrasonography (US) and MR, in which MR showed T1-hypointensity, T2-hyperintensity and marked gadolinium uptake. We have described the relationship between the intracytoplasmic melanin amount of and these atypical MR findings.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. A new consideration in athletic injuries. The classical ballet dancer. The professional ballet dancer presents all of the problems of any vigorous athlete. The problems include osteochondral fractures, fatigue fractures, sprains, chronic ligamentous instability of the knee, meniscal tears, impingement syndrome, degenerative arthritis of multiple joints and low back pain. attention to minor problems with sound conservative therapy can avoid many major developments and lost hours. Observations included the extraordinary external rotation of at the hip without demonstrable alteration in the hip version angle and hypertrophy of the femur, tibia and particularly the second metatarsal (in female dancers). Careful evaluation of the range of motion of the extremities, serial roentgenographic examination, and systematic review of previous injuries, training programs and rehearsal techniques have been evaluated in a series of cases to provide the basis for advice to directors and teachers of the ballet.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Free gluteal artery perforator flap with a short, small perforator. The introduction of supermicrosurgery has led to the development of a new gluteal perforator flap nourished only by a musculocutaneous perforator of the superficial gluteal artery system. This flap has a perforator that is short (3-4 cm in length) and small (less than 1 mm). The successful transference of a free gluteal perforator flap for the coverage of soft-tissue defects in the foot and face in two patients is described in this article. With this flap, deeper and longer dissection for a pedicle vessel is unnecessary, flap elevation time is shorter, thinning of the flap with primary defatting and creation of an adiposal flap with customized thickness for tissue augmentation are possible, the donor site is in a concealed area with minimal donor site morbidity, and application of the flap as a scarred flap for previous operations in the gluteal region is possible. The disadvantages of this flap are necessity of dissection for a smaller perforator and of anastomosis of small-caliber vessels of less than 1.0 mm.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. lipoblastoma-lipoblastomatosis associated with unilateral limb hypertrophy: a case report in a newborn.lipoblastoma is a benign mesenchymal tumor of embryonic adipose tissue, uncommon in infancy. Multicentricity, absence of a capsule and histopathology best defines a lipoblastoma. Synonyms for this lesion are embryonic lipoma, fetal lipoma, lipoblastic tumor, and congenital lipomatoid tumor. lipoblastoma is more common in males (approximately 80%), is usually located in the subcutaneous soft tissue (benign lipoblastoma) or in the deep interstitium (benign lipoblastomatosis), or sometimes in all corporeal segments. Primary treatment is complete excision. Relapse is between 14-25%, many of which are more "mature," and difficult to differentiate from lipoma. The differential diagnosis includes liposarcoma, which is rare under ten years. Radical excision in children is recommended with relapses, especially with lipoblastomatosis. Chromosomal markers help discriminate between liposarcoma and lipoblastoma.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 28.008156007469keywords = adipose (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Case report 751: Spindle cell lipoma causing marked bone erosion. We present an unusual case of spindle cell lipoma of the foot which produced marked bone erosion. Spindle cell lipoma was initially described in the mid-1970s as having the characteristics of a lipoma with partial or total replacement of mature fat by collagen-forming spindle cells. This lesion is most commonly found in the subcutaneous tissue of the posterior neck and shoulder in men between 45 and 65 years of age.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 1keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Infiltrating angiolipoma in the foot.A case of infiltrating angiolipoma of the right lower extremity is reported. Angiolipomas are benign neoplasms of adipose tissue with a rich vascular component and are classified as either infiltrating or noninfiltrating. Noninfiltrating angiolipomas are seen in young individuals, present as painful, soft, subcutaneous nodules and are treated by enucleation. Infiltrating angiolipoma is a rare neoplasm with only 23 previously reported cases. These lesions are usually unencapsulated or rarely partially encapsulated and tend to infiltrate bony, neural, muscular, and fibrocollagenous tissue. Treatment of infiltrating angiolipomas is aimed at wide excision with radiotherapy indicated for cases of recurrence.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 28.008156007469keywords = adipose (Clic here for more details about this article) |
/40. Near fatal systemic toxicity from local injection of podophyllin for pedal verrucae treatment. An extremely rare case of systemic podophyllin toxicity from local injection is presented with a review of the literature. There is only one other known similar case reported in the medical literature world wide. Clinical and pathologic findings will be discussed.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 4keywords = fat (Clic here for more details about this article) |
