1/13. hemangioma calcificans. Case report of an intraparenchymatous calcified vascular hematoma with epileptogenic potential.

A middle-aged woman, with a previous history of medically suppressed absence attacks, presented with mild changes in mental status and a skull film demonstrating several areas of mottled, granular, intracranial calcifications. These lesions, although readily visible on computerized tomography, appeared avascular during the course of cerebral angiography. At the time of surgery the masses, which were densely calcified and generally circular, demonstrated numerous areas of superficial, white, verrucous excrescences. Microscopic, pathological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of hemangioma calcificans. The literature describing this rare entity is briefly reviewed.

2/13. Intraosseous hemangioma of the orbit.

Intraosseous hemangiomas of the orbit are very rare tumors. A case of cavernous hemangioma of the superolateral orbital rim is presented. A 45-year-old woman had a 1-year history of progressive swelling in the left lateral brow area. A computed tomography scan showed a well-marginated osteolytic lesion on the frontal bone near the frontozygomatic suture. The lesion was thought to be fibrous dysplasia, and the patient underwent tumor excision. The histological diagnosis was cavernous hemangioma. Cavernous spaces were filled with blood between the bony trabeculae. The spaces were lined by benign flattened endothelium. Intraosseous hemangioma should be suspected when a patient presents with an enlarging mass fixed to bone around the orbit.

3/13. Haemangioma calcificans.

Haemangioma calcificans is a relatively rare intracranial tumour, which is characterized by the presence of a calcified nodule in or near the brain. The patient is most often an adult of either sex, who develops seizures. The lesion can be large enough to produce raised intracranial pressure. The location of tumour is subcortical and often in the temporal lobe. It is usually solitary and benign in nature. Microscopically, there are thin-walled blood vessels separated by dense fibrous bands containing deposits of haemosiderin and calcium. On electron microscopy, tubular structures limited by a wall of electrodense material and irregular calcium deposits within them are prominent features. Four cases of haemangioma calcificans are described here with review of literature.

4/13. proteus syndrome: an expanded phenotype.

We report on 11 new cases of proteus syndrome to illustrate the broad range of the phenotype in this hamartomatous dysplasia. The cardinal manifestations of this sporadic disorder are hemihypertrophy, macrodactyly, exostoses, scoliosis, cavernous hemangiomas, lipomas, linear sebaceous nevi, and deeply rugated soles of the feet. intelligence is usually normal. The differential diagnosis includes Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber and partial lipodystrophy syndromes.

5/13. Surgical treatment of cavernous hemangioma.

Congenital cavernous hemangioma of the lower extremity is a form of congenital angioplastic dysplasia involving the venous trunks and capillaries. Although elastic support offers good symptomatic control, surgical removal of large, abnormal, superficial veins and ligation of incompetent perforators may be of definite additional benefit in carefully selected cases. Also, surgical excision of thrombosed veins, eroding cutaneous veins, and localized cavernous hemangiomas will lessen the chronic disability caused by this venous anomaly. But before any surgical treatment is undertaken, it must be determined that the deep venous system is adequate.

6/13. hemangioma calcificans of the spinal cord.

A 27-year-old woman presented with hemotomyelia during pregnancy. Needle drainage of the spinal cord was followed by relief of symptoms. Symptoms recurred during a second pregnancy 4 years later and she presented with an avascular mass in the midcervical spinal cord. This lesion proved to be hemangioma calcificans, a densely calcified and ossified variant of cavernous angioma.

7/13. Cavernous hemangioma with bone formation in a child: case report.

A 13-year-old girl suffering from seizures who was found to have hemangioma calcificans in the frontal lobe was surgically treated. The favorable postoperative course of our patient as well as reported cases suggest early excision of the lesion if it is located in an accessible area. Histological examination confirmed ossification with marrow in the lesion. The literature regarding ossification in the brain is discussed briefly.

8/13. hemangioma calcificans in the fourth ventricle.

A case of hemangioma calcificans in the 4th ventricle is reported. skull x-ray films demonstrated a dense calcification in the posterior fossa. Computed tomography disclosed a hyperdense mass in the 4th ventricle. The clinical picture was of increased intracranial pressure due to obstructive hydrocephalus. An hemangioma calcificans in the 4th ventricle was removed successfully.

9/13. hemangioma calcificans. Case report.

A 44-year-old woman presented with intraventricular hemorrhage and a calcified avascular mass lesion in the anterior third ventricle. This lesion proved to be a densely calcified variant of cavernous hemangioma, namely, hemangioma calcificans. Twelve previous cases of this lesion have been reported in the neurosurgical literature. association with spontaneous intraventricular hemorrhage has not been previously reported. The clinical presentation, radiological appearance, surgical findings, and histopathology of this lesion are discussed and a brief review of the literature is presented.

10/13. brain-stem hemangioma calcificans. Case report.

A case of brain-stem hemangioma calcificans is described. The few cases reported in the literature prove the rarity of this tumor, which is considered a benign variant of cerebral cavernous hemangioma. diagnosis and treatment of these tumors are briefly discussed with a review of the literature including 11 previous cases.
